Merits
As per the traditions of the infallible Imams (a.s.), the day of Friday is reserved for the Imam of the Time, Imam-e- Zamana (a.t.f.s.). Since Friday is largely considered as the day of reappearance of the Imam, this ziyarat assumes that much more importance. While it is essential for the Shiah to convey salaam to Imam every day, this ziyarat is special because it is recited on the day reserved for the Imam (a.t.f.s.). In this ziyarat, the believer salutes the Imam (a.t.f.s.) through his forefathers and affectionately calls out to the Imam (a.t.f.s.) saying that since this is Friday; the day on which your reappearance is ordained, come soon and extract revenge from the enemies of Allah and your enemies and please the hearts of the believers through that. Then the believer pleads to Imam (a.t.f.s.) saying, O my master, on this day, I am your guest. You are a marvellous host, you are generous and the son of generous (Imams). So be an excellent host to me!
One of the benefits of reciting these loving sentences is that Inshallah, when the Imam (a.t.f.s.) arrives, he will remember our dua and invite us to be his guest. It is the habit of worldly parents that they remember the requests of their children. Imam (a.t.f.s.) loves us more than our parents and therefore he will remember our request well. Hence one should not forsake the recitation of this special ziyarat on Friday.
Text and Translation
Ziyarat of Imam al Mahdi (a.t.f.s.)
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ اللهِ فِیْ اَرْضِهٖ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA HUJJATAL LAAHE FEE ARZEHI
Peace be upon you, O argument of Allah in His lands!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَيْنَ اللهِ فِیْ خَلْقِهٖ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA AYNAL LAAHE FEE KHALQEHI
Peace be upon you, O sight of Allah on His creatures!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نُوْرَ اللهِ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA NOORAL LAAHIL
Peace be upon you, O light of Allah
الَّذِیْ يَهْتَدِیْ بِهِ الْمُهْتَدُوْنَ
LAZEE YAHTADEE BEHIL MOHTADOONA
by which those who have been guided [to the true guidance] are guided
وَ يُفَرَّجُ بِهٖ عَنِ الْمُوْمِنِيْنَ
WA YOFARRAJO BEHI A’NIL MOMENEENA
and by which the believers are relieved!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْمُهَذَّبُ الْخَآئِفُ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL MOHAZZABUL KHAAA-EFO
Peace be upon you, O polite and fearful!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْوَلِیُّ النَّاصِحُ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL WALIYYUN NAASEHO
Peace be upon you, O sincere patron!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَفِيْنَةَ النَّجَاةِ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SAFEENATAN NAJAATE
Peace be upon you, O ark of salvation!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَيْنَ الْحَيَاةِ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA A’YNAL HAYAATE
Peace be upon you, O essence of life!
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ صَلَّی اللهُ عَلَيْكَ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYKA
Peace be upon you. May Allah send blessings to you
وَ عَلٰی آلِ بَيْتِكَ الطَّيَّبِيْنَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ
WA A’LAA AALE BAYTEKAT TAYYABEENAT TAAHEREENA
and upon your Household, the pure and immaculate.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ عَجَّلَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA A’JJALAL LAAHO LAKA MAA WA-A’DAKA
Peace be upon you. May Allah hasten that which He has promised you;
مِنَ النَّصْرِ وَ ظُهُوْرِ الْاَمْرِ
MENAN NASRE WA ZOHOORIL AMRE
namely, victory and prevalence of your authority.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلَایَ
ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA MAWLAAYA
Peace be upon you, O my master.
اَنَا مَوْلَاكَ
ANAA MAWLAAKA
I am a servant of you
عَارِفٌ بِاُولٰيكَ وَ اُخْرٰيكَ
A’AREFUN BE OOLAAKA WA UKHRAAKA
and I recognize the first and the last of your affair.
اَتَقَرَّبُ اِلَی اللهِ تَعَالٰی بِكَ وَ بِآلِ بَيْتِكَ
ATAQARRABO ELAL LAAHE TA-A’ALAA BEKA WA BE-AALE BAYTEKA
I seek nearness to Allah, the Exalted, through your Household and you
وَ اَنْتَظِرُ ظُهُوْرَكَ وَ ظُهُوْرَ الْحَقِّ عَلٰی يَدَيْكَ
WA ANTAZERU ZOHOORAKA WA ZOHOORAL HAQQE A’LAA YADAYKA
and I am expecting your advent and the prevalence of the truth at your hands.
وَ اَسْئَلُ اللهَ اَنْ يُصَلِّیَ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
WA AS-ALUL LAAHA AN YOSALLEYA A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN
And I beseech Allah to send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَ اَنْ يَجْعَلَنِیْ مِنَ الْمُنْتَظِرِيْنَ لَكَ
WA AYN YAJA’LANEE MENAL MUNTAZEREENA LAKA
and to include me with those who are expecting you,
وَ التَّابِعِيْنَ وَ النَّاصِرِيْنَ لَكَ عَلٰی اَعْدَآئِكَ
WAT TAABE-E’ENA WAN NAASEREENA LAKA A’LAA AA’-DAAAEKA
those who follow you and support you against your enemies,
وَ الْمُسْتَشْهَدِيْنَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ
WAL MUSTASH-HADEENA BAYNA YADAYKA
and those who will be martyred in front of you
فِیْ جُمْلَةِ اَوْلِيَآئِكَ يَا مَوْلَایَ يَا صَاحِبَ الزَّمَانِ
FEE JUMLATE AWLEYAAA-EKA YAA MAWLAAYA YAA SAAHEBAZ ZAMAANE
in the group of your loyalists. O my master, O Patron of the Age!
صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ وَ عَلٰی آلِ بَيْتِكَ
SALAWAATUL LAAHE ALAYKA WA A’LAA AALE BAYTEKA
May Allah’s blessings be upon you and upon your Household.
هٰذَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ وَهُوَ يَوْمُكَ الْمُتَوَقَّعُ فِيْهِ ظُهُوْرُكَ
HAAZAA YAWMUL JOMO-A’TE WA HOWA YAWMOKAL MOTAWAQQAO’ FEEHE ZOHOOROKA
Today is Friday, which is your day on which your advent is expected
وَ الْفَرَجُ فِيْهِ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ عَلٰی يَدَيْكَ
WAL FARAJO FEEHE LIL MOMENEENA A’LAA YADAYKA
to bring about relief to the believers at your hands,
وَ قَتْلُ الْكَافِرِيْنَ بِسَيْفِكَ
