Ziyarat of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.)

Text and Translation

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدَ الْبَطْحَآءِ وَابْنَ رَئِيْسِهَا

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SAYYEDAL BATHAAA-E WAB NA RA-EESEHAA

Peace be upon you, O master of al-Batha' (Mecca) and son of its chieftain!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ الْكَعْبَةِ بَعْدَ تَاْسِيْسِهَا

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESAL KA’BATE BA’DA TA-SEESEHAA

Peace be upon you, O heir to the Kaaba after its founding!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا كَافِلَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA KAAFELA RASOOLIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O guardian and protector of the Messenger of Allah!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حَافِظَ دِيْنِ اللهِ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA HAAFEZA DEENIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O preserver of the religion of Allah!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَمَّ الْمُصْطَفٰى

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA A’MMAL MUSTAFAA

Peace be upon you, O uncle of al-Mustafa (the Chosen One)!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَبَا الْمُرْتَضٰى

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA ABAL MURTAZAA

Peace be upon you, O father of al-Murtada (the Pleased One)!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَالِدَ الْاَئِمَّةِ الْهُدٰى

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAALEDAL A-IMMATIL HODAA

Peace be upon you, O father of the Imams of guidance!

كَفَاكَ بِمَا اَوْلَاكَ اللهُ شَرَفًا وَّنَسَبًا

KAFAAKA BEMAAA AWLAAKAL LAAHO SHARAFANW WA NASABANW

Sufficient for you is the honor and lineage

وَّحَسْبُكَ بِمَا اَعْطَاكَ اللهُ عِزًّا وَّحَسَبًا

WA HASBOKA BEMAAA A’TAAKAL LAAHO I’ZZANW WA HASABAN

with which Allah favored you, and enough for you is the might and nobility that Allah granted you!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا شَرَفَ الْوُجُوْدِ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SHARAFAL WOJOODE

Peace be upon you, O honor of existence!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِىَّ الْمَعْبُوْدِ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WALIYYAL MA’BOODE

Peace be upon you, O close loyalist (wali) of the One Worthy of Worship!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حَارِسَ النَّبِىِّ الْمَوْعُوْدِ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA HAARESAN NABIYYIL MAW-O’ODE

Peace be upon you, O guardian of the Promised Prophet!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَنْ رُزِقَ وَلَدٌ هُوَ خَيْرُ مَوْلُوْدٍ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA MAN ROZEQA WALADUN HOWA KHAYRO MAWLOODIN

Peace be upon you, O one who was blessed with a son who is the best of all newborns!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَنْ خُصِّصَ بِالْوَلَدِ الزَّكِىِّ الطَّاهِرِ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA MAN KHUSSESA BIL-WALADIZ ZAKIYYIT TAAHIRIL

Peace be upon you, O one who was specially graced with the pure, spotless,

الْمُطَهَّرِ الْعَلِىٍّ اشْتُقَّ اسْمُهٗ مِنَ الْعَلِىِّ

MOTAHHARIL A’LIYYENISH TUQQAS MOHU MENAL A’LIYYE

purified, and exalted child whose name was derived from the Most High (al-Ali)!

هَنِيْئًا لَّكَ ثُمَّ هَنِيْئًا لَّكَ مِنْ وَّلَدٍ

HANEEE-AL LAKA SUMMA HANEEE-AL LAKA MINW WALADIN

May congratulations and joy be yours, and again congratulations and joy be yours,

هُوَ الْمُرْتَضٰى مِنْ رَسُوْلٍ وَّاَخُ الرَّسُوْلِ

HOWAL MURTAZAA MIR RASOOLINW WA AKHUR RASOOLE

for having a son who is the approved choice (al-Murtada) by the Messenger, the brother of the Messenger,

وَزَوْجُ الْبَتُوْلِ وَسَيْفُ اللهِ الْمَسْلُوْلُ

WA ZAWJUL BATOOLE WA SAYFUL LAAHIL MASLOOLO

the husband of the Chaste Maiden (al-Batul), and the drawn sword of Allah!

هَنِيْئًا لَّكَ ثُمَّ هَنِيْئًا لَّكَ مِنْ وَّلَدٍ

HANEEE-AL LAKA SUMMA HANEEE-AL LAKA MINW WALADIN

May congratulations and joy be yours, and again congratulations and joy be yours, for having a son

هُوَ مِنْ مُّحَمَّدٍ الْمُصْطَفٰى

HOWA MIM MOHAMMADENIL MUSTAFAA

whose station to Muhammad al-Mustafa

بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُوْنَ مِنْ مُوْسٰى

BE-MANZELATE HAAROONA MIM MOOSAA

is as the station of Haroon to Moosa!

هَنِيْئًا لَّكَ مِنْ وَّلَدٍ هُوَ شَرِيْكُ النُّبُوَّةِ

HANEEE-AL LAKA MINW WALADIN HOWA SHAREEKUN NOBUWWATE

May congratulations and joy be yours for having a son who is the partner in the prophetic mission,

وَالْمَخْصُوْصُ بِالْاُخُوَّةِ

WAL MAKHSOOSO BIL-OKHUWWATE

the one uniquely chosen for brotherhood,

وَكَاشِفُ الْغُمَّةِ وَاِمَامُ الْاُمَّةِ وَاَبُوْ الْاَئِمَّةِ

WA KAASHEFUL GHUMMATE WA EMAAMUL UMMATE WA ABUL A-IMMATE

the remover of sorrow, the leader (imam) of the nation, and the father of the Imams!

هَنِيْئًا لَّكَ مِنْ وَّلَدٍ هُوَ قَسِيْمُ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ

HANEEE-AL LAKA MINW WALADIN HOWA QASEEMUL JANNATE WAN NAARE

May congratulations and joy be yours for having a son who is the distributor of Paradise and Hellfire,

وَنِعْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَى الْاَبْرَارِ

WA NE’MATUL LAAHE A’LAL ABRAARE

the blessing of Allah upon the righteous,

وَنَقِمَةُ اللهِ عَلَى الْفُجَّارِ

WA NAQEMATUL LAAHE A’LAL FUJ-JAARE

and the wrath of Allah upon the wicked!

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ

AS-SALAAMO A’LAYKA WA A’LAYHE WA A’LAYHIM AJMA-E’ENA

Peace be upon you, and upon him, and upon all of them,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU.

and the mercy of Allah and His blessings!
