Ziyarat of Hazrat Abdul Muttalib (a.s.)

Text and Translation

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدَ الْكَعْبَةِ وَالْبَطْحَآءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya sayyida alka`bati walbathha'i

Peace be upon you, O master of the Ka`bah and al-Bat-ha,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا صَاحِبَ الْمَهَابَةِ وَالْبَهَاءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya sahiba almahabati walbaha'i

peace be upon you, O possessor of awe and splendor,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَعْدِنَ الْكَرَمِ وَاَصْلَ السَّخَاءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya ma`dina alkarami wa asla alssakha'i

peace be upon you, O source of generosity and root of magnanimity,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَوَّلَ مَنْ قَالَ بِالْبَدَآءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya awwala man qala bilbada'i

peace be upon you, O first to speak of al-Bada' (Allah's revising of decree),

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَنْ يُّحْشَرُ فِىْ سِيْمَآءِ الْاَنْبِيَآءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya man yuhsharu fi sima'i al-anbiya'i

peace be upon you, O one who will be raised bearing the mark of the prophets,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَعْرُوْفًا فِىْ الْاَرْضِ وَالسَّمَآءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya ma`rufan fi al-ardi walssama'i

peace be upon you, O one renowned in the earth and the heaven,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَنْ نَادَاهُ هَاتِفُ الْغَيْبُ بِاَكْرَمِ نِدَآءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya man nadahu hatifu alghaybi bi'akrami nida'in

peace be upon you, O one whom the unseen caller called with the noblest of calls,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ الْخَلِيْلِ

alssalamu `alayka yabna ibrahima alkhalili

peace be upon you, O descendant of Ibrahim, the Intimate Friend of Allah,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ الذَّبِيْحِ اِسْمٰعِيْلَ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha aldhdhabihi isma`ila

peace be upon you, O heir of the sacrificed one, Isma`il,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَنْ اَهْلَكَ اللهُ بِدُعَائِهِ اَصْحَابَ الْفِيْلَ

alssalamu `alayka ya man ahlaka allahu bidu`a'ihi ashaba alfili

peace be upon you, O one by whose supplication Allah destroyed the People of the Elephant,

وَجَعَلَ كَيْدَهُمْ فِىْ تَضْلِيْلٍ

wa ja`ala kaydahum fi tadlilin

and made their scheming go astray,

وَاَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْراً اَبَابِيْلَ

wa arsala `alayhim tayran ababila

and sent upon them flocks of birds, Ababil.

اَلسَّلاَمُ يَا سَاقِىَ الْحَجِيْجِ وَحَافِرَ زَمْزَمَ

alssalamu ya saqiya alhajiji wa hafira zamzama

Peace be upon you, O water-giver of the pilgrims and digger of Zamzam,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَنْ طَافَ حَوْلَ الْكَعْبَةِ وَجَعَلَ سَبْعَةَ اَشْوَاطٍ

alssalamu `alayka ya man tafa hawla alka`bati wa ja`ala sab`ata ashwatin

peace be upon you, O one who circled the Ka`bah, making it seven circuits,

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نُوْرَ الْحَرَمِ وَابْنَ هَاشِمٍ

alssalamu `alayka ya nura alharami wabna hashimin

peace be upon you, O light of the Sanctuary and descendant of Hashim,

وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

wa salla allahu `alayka wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu

and may Allah send blessings upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
