Text and Translation

Ziyarat of Imam Husain (a.s.)

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ اٰدَمَ صَفْوَةِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESA AADAMA SAFWATIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Adam, the chosen one of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ نُوْحٍ نَبِىِّ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESA NOOHIN NABIYYIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Nuh, the Prophet of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ خَلِيْلِ اللهِ

ASALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESA IBRAAHEEMA KHALEELIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Ibrahim, the friend of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُوْسٰى كَلِيْمِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESA MOOSAA KALEEMIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you. O inheritor of Musa, the one who talked to Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِيْسٰى رُوْحِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESA E’ESAA ROOHIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O inheritor of 'Isa, the spirit of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُحَمَّدٍ حَبِيْبِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESA MOHAMMADIN HABEEBIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Muhammad, the beloved friend of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عَلِىٍّ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَلِىِّ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA WAARESA AMEERIL MOOMINEENA WALIYYIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Ali, the commander of the faithful and the friend of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍۨ الْمُصْطَفٰى

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA MOHAMMADENIL MUSTAFAA

Peace be upon you, O son of Muhammad Mustafa.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ عَلِىٍۨ الْمُرْتَضٰى

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA A’LIYYENIL MURTAZAA

Peace be upon you, O son of Ali Al-Murtaza.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَآءِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA FAATEMATAZ ZAHRAAE

Peace be upon you, O son of Fatema Zahra.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ خَدِيْجَةَ الْكُبْرٰى

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA KHADEEJATAL KUBRAA

Peace be upon you, O son of Khadijatul-kubra.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ثَارَ اللهِ وَابْنَ ثَارِهٖ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SAARAL LAAHE WABNA SAAREHI

Peace be upon you, O vengeance of Allah, son of His vengeance,

وَالْوِتْرَ الْمَوْتُوْرَ

WAL WITRAL MAWTOORA

and the unavenged so far.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ قَدْ اَقَمْتَ الصَّلوٰةَ

ASHHADO ANNAKA QAD AQAMTAS SALAATA

I bear witness that verily you established the prayers

وَاٰتَيْتَ الزَّكٰوةَ

WA AATAYTAZ ZAKAATA

and gave the zakat (prescribed share) to the needy.

وَاَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ

WA AMARTA BIL MAA’ROOFE

And commanded to do what is right and lawful

وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ

WA NAHAYTA A’NIL MUNKARE

and not to do that which is wrong and unlawful.

وَاَطَعْتَ اللهَ وَرَسُوْلَهٗ

WA ATAA’TAL LAAHA WA RASOOLAHU

And obeyed Allah and His Messenger

حَتّٰى اَتٰيكَ الْيَقِيْنُ

HATTAA ATAAKAL YAQEENO

until the inevitable came unto you.

فَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ

FALA’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN QATALATKA

So, Allah curse those who killed you

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً ظَلَمَتْكَ

WA LA’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN ZALAMATKA

and Allah curse those who wronged you.

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً سَمِعَتْ بِذٰلِكَ فَرَضِيَتْ بِهٖ

WA LA’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN SAME-A’T BE-ZAALEKA FARAZEYAT BEHI

And Allah curse those who heard the event and rested satisfied.

يَا مَوْلاَىَ يَا اَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ

YAA MAWLAAYA YAA ABAA A’BDIL LAAHE

O My Master, O Aba A’bdillah!

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ كُنْتَ نُوْرًا فِى الْاَصْلاَبِ الشَّامِخَةِ

ASH-HADO ANNAKA KUNTA NOORAN FIL ASLAABISH SHAAMEKHATE

I bear witness that verily you were a light in the sublime loins

وَالْاَرْحَامِ الْمُطَهَّرَةِ

WAL ARHAAMIL MOTAHHARATE

and purified wombs.

لَمْ تُنَجِّسْكَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةُ بِاَنْجَاسِهَا

LAM TONAJJISKAL JAAHELIYYATO BE-ANJAASEHAA

The impurities of ignorance did not even touch you.

وَلَمْ تُلْبِسْكَ مِنْ مُدْلَهِمَّاتِ ثِيَابِهَا

WA LAM TULBISKA MIN MUDLAHIMMAATE SEYAABEHAA

Nor could its soiled and dirty bearing ever smear you.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ مِنْ دَعَآئِمِ الدِّيْنِ

WA ASHHADO ANNAKA MIN DA-A’AA-EMID DEENE

And I bear witness that, verily, you are the mainstay of the religion,

وَاَرْكَانِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

WA ARKAANIL MOOMINEENA

and the supporter of the faithful ones.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ الْاِمَامُ الْبَرُّ التَّقِىُّ

WA ASHHADO ANNAKAL EMAAMUL BARRUT TAQIYYUR

And I bear witness that, verily, you are a pious, God-fearing,

الرَّضِىُّ الزَّكِىُّ الْهَادِى الْمَهْدِىُّ

RAZIYYUZ ZAKIYYUL HAADIL MAHDIYYO

favorite, wise and rightly guided (Imam).

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ الْاَئِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِكَ

WA ASHHADO ANNAL A-IMMATA MIN WULDEKA

And I bear witness that the Imams, in your progeny,

كَلِمَةُ التَّقْوٰى وَاَعْلاَمُ الْهُدٰى

KALEMATUT TAQWAA WA AA’-LAAMUL HODAA

are the words of piety. And the signs of guidance

وَالْعُرْوَةُ الْوُثْقٰى وَالْحُجَّةُ عَلٰى اَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا

WAL U’RWATUL WUSQAA WAL HUJJATO A’LAA AHLID DUNYAA

And the safe handle of Islam, and the decisive argument for the humankind.

وَاُشْهِدُ اللهَ وَمَلٓائِكَتَهٗ

WA USHHEDUL LAAHA WA MALAAA-EKATAHU

And I call Allah to give witness, and also His Angels

وَاَنْبِيَآئَهٗ وَرُسُلَهٗ

WA AMBEYAAA-AHU WA ROSOLAHU

and His Prophets and His Messenger.

اَنِّىْ بِكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ

ANNEE BEKUM MOMENUN

That, verily, I believe in (all of) you

وَبِاِيَابِكُمْ مُوْقِنٌ

WA BE-EYAABEKUM MOOQENUN

and that I am sure of your Return

بِشَرَايِعِ دِيْنِىْ

BESHARAAYE-E’ DEENEE

Joined to the divine laws of my belief

وَخَوَاتِيْمِ عَمَلِىْ

WA KHAWAATEEME A’MALEE

and my accomplishments.

وَقَلْبِىْ لِقَلْبِكُمْ

WA QALBEE LE-QALBEKUM

And my heart is resigned to yours

سِلْمٌ وَاَمْرِىْ لِاَمْرِكُمْ مُتَّبِعٌ

SILMUN WA AMREE LE-AMREKUM MUTTABE-U’N

And my conduct is following the example of yours.

صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلٰى اَرْوَاحِكُمْ

SALAWAATUL LAAHE A’LAYKUM WA A’LAA ARWAAHEKUM

Blessings of Allah be on (all of) you And on your souls

وَعَلٰى اَجْسَادِكُمْ وَعَلٰى اَجْسَامِكُمْ

WA A’LAA AJSAADEKUM WA A’LAA AJSAAMEKUM

and on your bodies and on your forms

وَعَلٰى شَاهِدِكُمْ وَعَلٰى غَآئِبِكُمْ

WA A’LAA SHAAHEDEKUM WA A’LAA GHAAEBEKUM

And (when) you are in view and (when) you are out of sight

وَعَلٰى ظَاهِرِكُمْ وَعَلٰى بَاطِنِكُمْ.

WA A’LAA ZAAHEREKUM WA A’LAA BAATENEKUM.

and on your apparent and on your concealed.

Ziyarat of Janab-e-Ali Akbar (a.s.)

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA RASOOLIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ نَبِىِّ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA NABIYYIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O son of the Prophet of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA AMEERIL MOMENEENA

Peace be upon you, O son of Ameer al-Mu’mineen (the commander of the believers).

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ الشَّهِيْدِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNAL HUSAYNISH SHAHEEDE

Peace be upon you, O son of al-Husayn the shaheed (martyr).

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الشَّهِيْدُ وَابْنُ الشَّهِيْدِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHASH SHAHEEDO

Peace be upon you, O the martyr and the son of the martyred one.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْمَظْلُوْمُ وَابْنُ الْمَظْلُوْمِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL MAZLOOMO WABNUL MAZLOOME

Peace be upon you, O the oppressed one and son of the oppressed one.

لَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ

LA-A’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN QATALATKA

Curse of Allah be on those who killed you.

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً ظَلَمَتْكَ

WA LA-A’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN ZALAMATKA

Curse of Allah be on those who persecuted you.

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً سَمِعَتْ بِذٰلِكَ فَرَضِيَتِ بِهٖ

WA LA-A’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN SAME-A’T BE-ZAALEKA FARAZEYAT BEHI.

And curse of Allah be on those who heard this even but rested satisfied.

Ziyarat of Shohadaa-e-Karbala (a.s.)

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَوْلِيَآءَ اللهِ وَاَحِبَّائَهٗ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA AWLEYAAA-AL LAAHE WA AHIB-BAAA-AHU

Peace be upon all of you, O the saints and dears of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَصْفِيَاءَ اللهِ اَوِدَّائَهٗ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA ASFEYAAA-AL LAAHE WA AWIDDAAA-AHU

Peace be upon all of you, O the adorers of Allah and the sincere ones attached to Him.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَنْصَارَ دِيْنِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA ANSAARA DEENIL LAAHE

Peace be upon all of you, O the helpers of Allah’s religion.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَنْصَارَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA ANSAARA RASOOLIL LAAHE

Peace be upon all of you, O the helpers of the Messenger of Allah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَنْصَارَ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA ANSAARA AMEERIL MOMENEENA

Peace be upon all of you, O the helpers of Ameer al-Mu’mineen.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَنْصَارَ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَآءِ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA ANSAARA FAATEMATA SAYYEDATE NESAAA-IL A’ALAMEENA

Peace be upon all of you, O the helpers of Fatimah the leader of the women of this universes.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَنْصَارَ اَبِىْ مُحَمَّدٍۨ الْحَسَنِ ابْنِ عَلِىٍّۨ الزَّكِىِّ النَّاصِحِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA ANSAARA ABEE MOHAMMADENIL HASANIBNE A’LIYYENIL WALIYYIN NAASEHE

Peace be upon all of you, O the helpers of Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Ali The sincere, pure and faithful saint.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَنْصَارَ اَبِىْ عَبْدِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKUM YAA ANSAARA ABEE A’BDIL LAAHE

Peace be upon all of you, O the helpers of Abu Abdullah.

بِاَبِىْ اَنْتُمْ وَاُمِّىْ طِبْتُمْ

BE-ABEE ANTUM WA UMME TIBTUM

My father and mother be sacrificed for you Verily, you were pure;

وَطَابَتِ الْاَرْضُ الَّتِىْ فِيْهَا دُفِنْتُمْ

WA TAABATIL ARZUL LATEE FEEHAA DOFINTUM

therefore, the land wherein you are buried has been purified.

وَفُزْتُمْ فَوْزًا عَظِيْمًا

WA FUZTUM FAWZAN A’ZEEMAA

You also attained your end and won great fortune.

فَيَالَيْتَنِىْ كُنْتُ مَعَكُمْ فَاَفُوْزَ مَعَكُمْ.

FA-YAALAYTANEE KUNTO MA-A’KUM FA-AFOOZA MA-A’KUM.

Would that we were with you so that we could also share the accomplishment with you.

Ziyarat of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.)

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA AMEERIL MOMENEENA

Peace be upon you, O son of Commander of the Faithful;

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْعَبْدُ الصَّالِحُ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL A’BDUS SAALEHUL

Peace be upon you, O virtuous servant,

الْمُطِيْعُ لِلّٰهِ وَلِرَسُوْلِهٖ

MO-TEE-O’ LILLAAHE WA LE-RASOOLEHI

obedient to Allah and His Messenger;

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ قَدْ جَاهَدْتَ

ASH-HADO ANNAKA QAD JAA-HADTA

I bear witness that you did truly fight the Holy War,

وَنَصَحْتَ وَصَبَرْتَ

WA NASAHTA WA SABARTA

and you did help the cause of Faith; and you did patiently endure

حَتّٰى اَتٰيكَ الْيَقِيْنُ

HATTAA ATAAKAL YAQEENO

Until the certainty (of death) came upon thee.

لَعَنَ اللهُ الظَّالِمِيْنَ لَكُمْ

LA-A’NAL LAAHUZ ZAALEMEENA LAKUM

May Allah deprive those who wronged you of His Mercy,

مِنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِيْنَ

MENAL AWWALEENA WAL-AAKHEREENA

whether they may have been of the first or the last (i.e., all of them);

وَاَلْحَقَهُمْ بِدَرْكِ الْجَحِيْم.

WA ALHAQAHUM BE-DARAKIL JAHEEM.

and may He consign them to the nethermost regions of Hell.
