Ziyarah of Imam Ali (a.s.) — Najaf (All Forms)

Text and Translation

First Ziyarah

When you face and are opposite to the holy tomb, stop there before reaching the tomb, and say the following:

اَلسَّلاَمُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu min allahi `ala muhammadin rasuli allahi

Peace of Allah be upon Muhammad the Messenger of Allah,

أَمِينِ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ وَحْيِهِ وَرِسَالاَتِهِ

amini allahi `ala wahyihi wa risalatihi

the trustee of Allah over His Revelations, Messages,

وَعَزَائِمِ أَمْرِهِ

wa `aza'imi amrihi

and determined commandments,

وَمَعْدِنِ ٱلْوَحْيِ وَٱلتَّنْزِيلِ

wa ma`dini alwahyi walttanzili

the core of the Divine Inspiration and Revelation,

ٱلْخَاتِمِ لِمَا سَبَقَ

alkhatimi lima sabaqa

who sealed the previous Messages,

وَٱلْفَاتِحِ لِمَا ٱسْتُقْبِلَ

walfatihi lima istuqbila

paved the way to the coming blessings,

وَٱلْمُهَيْمِنِ عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

walmuhaymini `ala dhalika kullihi

who prevails over all that,

ٱلشَّاهِدِ عَلَىٰ ٱلْخَلْقِ

alshshahidi `ala alkhalqi

the witness over the creatures,

ٱلسِّرَاجِ ٱلْمُنِيرِ

alssiraji almuniri

and the luminous torch.

وَٱلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهُ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

wa alssalamu `alayhi wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu

Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ ٱلْمَظْلُومِينَ

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ahli baytihi almazlumina

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household, the oppressed ones,

أَفْضَلَ وَأَكْمَلَ وَأَرْفَعَ

afdala wa akmala wa arfa`a

with the best, most perfect, most exalted,

وَأَشْرَفَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ أَحَدٍ

wa ashrafa ma sallayta `ala ahadin

and most honored blessings that You have ever showed on any

مِنْ أَنْبِيَائِكَ وَرُسُلِكَ وَأَصْفِيَائِكَ

min anbiya'ika wa rusulika wa asfiya'ika

of Your Prophets, Messengers, and Chosen servants.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ أَمِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

allahumma salli `ala amiri almu'minina

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon the Commander of the Faithful,

عَبْدِكَ وَخَيْرِ خَلْقِكَ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّكَ

`abdika wa khayri khalqika ba`da nabiyyika

Your servant, the best of Your creatures after Your Prophet,

وَأَخِي رَسُولِكَ

wa akhi rasulika

the brother of Your Messenger,

وَوَصِيِّ حَبِيبِكَ

wa wasiyyi habibika

the Successor of Your most-beloved one,

ٱلَّذِي ٱنْتَجَبْتَهُ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

alladhi intajabtahu min khalqika

whom You have selected from among Your beings,

وَٱلدَّلِيلِ عَلَىٰ مَنْ بَعَثْتَهُ بِرِسَالاَتِكَ

walddalili `ala man ba`athtahu birisalatika

the guide to those whom You sent with Your messages,

وَدَيَّانِ ٱلدِّينِ بِعَدْلِكَ

wa dayyani alddini bi`adlika

the establisher of the true religion by means of Your justice,

وَفَصْلِ قَضَائِكَ بَيْنَ خَلْقِكَ

wa fasli qada'ika bayna khalqika

and the decisive judge among Your beings.

وَٱلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

wa alssalamu `alayhi wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu

Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ ٱلأَئِمَّةِ مِنْ وُلْدِهِ

allahumma salli `ala al-a'immati min wuldihi

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon the Imams from his offspring,

ٱلْقَوَّامِينَ بِأَمْرِكَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ

alqawwamina bi'amrika min ba`dihi

(who are) the holders of Your commandments after him,

ٱلْمُطَهَّرِينَ ٱلَّذينَ ٱرْتَضَيْتَهُمْ أَنْصَاراً لِدِينِكَ

almutahharina alladhina irtadaytahum ansaran lidinika

and the immaculate ones whom You have accepted as supporters of Your religion,
