Merits
About this blessed day, Shaykh al-Tusi says in Misbah al-Mutahajjid: Imam al-Husayn ibn Ali (a.s.) was born on the third of Sha'ban. Abu'l-Qasim ibn 'Ala' al-Hamadani received a document telling that our master, Imam al-Husayn (a.s.), was born on this day; therefore, observe fasting on this day and recite this supplication:
Text and Translation
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْۤ اَسْاَلُكَ بِحَقِّ الْمَوْلُوْدِ فِيْ هٰذَا الْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُوْدِ بِشَهَادَتِهٖ قَبْلَ اسْتِهْلَالِهٖ وَ وِلَادَتِهٖ
ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS'ALUKA BI-HAQQIL MAWLOODI FEE HAADHAL YAWMI, AL-MAW'OODI BI-SHAHAADATIHI QABLAS-TIHLAALIHI WA WILAADATIH
O Allah, I beseech You in the name of the one born on this day, the promised with martyrdom before his beginning and birth,
بَكَتْهُ السَّمَآءُ وَ مَنْ فِيْهَا وَ الْاَرْضُ وَ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا وَ لَمَّا يَطَاْ لَابَتَيْهَا قَتِيْلِ الْعَبْرَةِ وَ سَيِّدِ الْاُسْرَةِ
BAKATHUS SAMAAA'U WA MAN FEEHAA WAL ARDU WA MAN A'LAYHAA WA LAMMAA YATA' LAABATAYHAA, QATEELIL A'BRATI WA SAYYIDIL USRAH
mourned by the heaven and whoever is therein, and the earth and whoever is on it, before he trod on its lands; the martyr of tears and the master of the family,
الْمَمْدُوْدِ بِالنُّصْرَةِ يَوْمَ الْكَرَّةِ الْمُعَوَّضِ مِنْ قَتْلِهٖ اَنَّ الْاَئِمَّةَ مِنْ نَّسْلِهٖ وَ الشِّفَآءَ فِيْ تُرْبَتِهٖ وَ الْفَوْزَ مَعَهٗ فِيْ اَوْبَتِهٖ
AL-MAMDOODI BIN-NUSRATI YAWMAL KARRAH, AL-MU'AWWADI MIN QATLIHI ANNAL A'IMMATA MIN NASLIHI WASH SHIFAAA'A FEE TURBATIH, WAL FAWZA MA'AHU FEE AWWBATIH
supported with victory on the day of the return, compensated for his killing by having the Imams from his offspring, healing in his soil, and triumph with him upon his return.
