The Supplication of Sunday

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْم

BISMILLAAHIR RAHMANIR RAHIM.

In the name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِىْ لَا اَرْجُوْ اِلَّا فَضْلَهٗ

BISMIL LAAHIL LAZEE LAA ARJOO ILLAA FAZLAHU

In the name of Allah, from whom I hope for nothing but bounty,

وَلَا اَخْشٰى اِلَّا عَدْلَهٗ

WA LAA AKHSHAA ILLAA ADLAHU

and from whom I fear nothing but justice!

وَلَا اَعْتَمِدُ اِلَّا قَوْلَهٗ

WA LAA A-A’TAMEDO ILLAA QAWLAHU

I rely only upon His word,

وَلَا اُمْسِكُ اِلَّا بِحَبْلِهٖ

WA LAA UMSEKO ILLAA BE-HABLEHI

and I cling only to His cord!

بِكَ اَسْتَجِيْرُ يَا ذَالْعَفْوِ وَالرِّضْوَانِ

BEKA ASTAJEERO YAA ZAL A’FWE WAR RIZWAANE

In You I seek sanctuary – O Possessor of pardon and good pleasure –

مِنَ الظُّلْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ

MENAZ ZULME WAL UDWAANE

from wrong and enmity,

وَمِنْ غِيَرِ الزَّمَانِ

WA MIN GHEYARIZ ZAMAANE

from the changes of time

وَتَوَاتُرِ الْاَحْزَانِ

WA TAWAATORIL AHZAANE

and the recurrence of sorrows,

وَطَوَارِقِ الْحَدَثَانِ

WA TAWAAREQIL HADASAANE

from the striking of mishaps,

وَمِنِ انْقِضَآءِ الْمُدَّةِ

WA MENIL QAZAAIL MUDDATE

and from the expiration of my term

قَبْلَ التَّأَهُّبِ وَالْعُدَّةِ

QABLAT TA-AH-HOBE WAL U’DDATE

before preparation and readiness.

وَاِيَّاكَ اَسْتَرْشِدُ لِمَا فِيْهِ الصَّلاَحُ وَالْاِصْلاَحُ

WA IYYAAKA ASTARSHEDO LEMAA FEEHIS-SALAAHO WAL ISLAAHO

From You I seek guidance to that wherein is righteousness and being set right.

وَبِكَ اَسْتَعِيْنُ فِيْمَا يَقْتَرِنُ بِهِ النَّجَاحُ وَالْاِنْجَاحُ

WA BEKA ASTA-E’ENO FEEMA YAQTARENO BEHIN NAJAAHO WAL INJAAHO

From You I seek help in that which is linked to success and favourable response.

وَاِيَّاكَ اَرْغَبُ فِىْ لِبَاسِ الْعَافِيَةِ وَتَمَامِهَا

WA IYYAAKA ARGHABO FEE LEBAASIL A’AFEYATE WA TAMAAMEHA

You I beseech for the garment of well-being and its completion

وَشُمُوْلِ السَّلَامَةِ وَدَوَامِهَا

WA SHOMOOLIS SALAAMATE WA DAWAAMEHAA

and for the covering of health and its permanence.

وَاَعُوْذُبِكَ يَا رَبِّ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِيْنِ

WA A’OOZO BEKA YAA RABBE MIN HAMAZAATISH SHAYAATEENE

I seek refuge in You, my Lord, from the goading of the Satan,

وَاَحْتَرِزُ بِسُلْطَانِكَ مِنْ جَوْرِ السَّلَاطِيْنِ

WA AH-TAREZO BE-SULTAANEKA MIN JAWRIS SALAATEENE

and I seek protection in Your sovereignty from the injustice of the sovereigns.

فَتَقَبَّلْ مَا كَانَ مِنْ صَلَاتِىْ وَصَوْمِىْ

FA-TAQABBAL MAA KAANA MIN SALAATEE WA SAWMEE

So accept my past prayers and fasting

وَاجْعَلْ غَدِىْ وَمَا بَعْدَهٗ

WAJ’AL GHADEE WA MAA BA’DAHU

and make my tomorrow and what is after

اَفْضَلَ مِنْ سَاعَتِىْ وَيَوْمِىْ

AFZALA MIN SAA-A’TEE WA YAWMEE

better than my present hour and my today!

وَاَعِزَّنِىْ فِىْ عَشِيْرَتِىْ وَقَوْمِىْ

WA A-I’ZZANEE FEE ASHEERATEE WA QAUMEE

Exalt me in my clan and my people

وَاحْفَظْنِىْ فِىْ يَقَظَتِىْ وَنَوْمِىْ

WAH-FAZNEE FEE YAQAZATEE WA NAWMEE

and protect me in my waking and my sleeping!

فَاَنْتَ اللهُ خَيْرٌ حَافِظًا

FA-ANTAL LAAHO KHAIRUN HAAFEZANW

For You are Allah, the Best Guardian,

وَّاَنْتَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

WA ANTA ARHAMUR RAAHEMEENA

and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْ اَبْرَءُ اِلَيْكَ فِىْ يَوْمِىْ هٰذَا

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE ABRA-O ELAYKA FEE YAWMEE HAAZAA

O Allah, I am quit before You on this day of mine

وَمَا بَعْدَهٗ مِنَ الْاَحَآدِ مِنَ الشِّرْكِ وَالْاِلْحَادِ

WA MAA BA’DAHU MENAL AAHAADE MENASH SHIRKE WAL ILHAADE

and on all Sundays that follow it of associating others with You and of heresy,

وَاُخْلِصُ لَكَ دُعَآئِىْ

WA UKHLESO LAKA DOA’A-EE

and I devote my supplication sincerely to You,

تَعَرُّضًا لِلْاِجَابَةِ

TA-A’RROZAN LIL EJAABATE

addressing myself to Your response.

وَاُقِيْمُ عَلٰى طَاعَتِكَ

WA OQEEMO A’LAA TA-A’TEKA

I observe the acts of obedience to You

رَجَآءً لِلْاِثَابَةِ

RAJAA-AN LIL-ESAABATE

for hope of gaining Your rewards.

فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ خَيْرِ خَلْقِكَ

FA-SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN KHAYRE KHALQEKAD

So bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, the best of Your creation,

الدَّاعِىْ اِلٰى حَقِّكَ

DAA-E’E ELAA HAQQEKA

and the caller to Your truth,

وَاَعِزَّنِىْ بِعِزِّكَ الَّذِىْ لَا يُضَامُ

WA A-A’IZZANEE BE-I’ZZEKAL LAZEE LAA YOZAAMO

and fortify me with Your almightiness, which is invulnerable,

وَاحْفَظْنِىْ بِعَيْنِكَ الَّتِىْ لَا تَنَامُ

WAH FAZNEE BE-A’YNEKAL LATEE LAA TANAAMO

protect me with Your eye, which never sleeps,

وَاخْتِمْ بِالْاِنْقِطَاعِ اِلَيْكَ اَمْرِىْ

WAKH TIM BIL-INQETAA-E ELAYKA AMREE

and seal my affair by acting devoutly to You

وَبَالْمَغْفِرَةِ عُمْرِىْ

WA BIL MAGHFERATE U’MREE

and my life with forgiveness!

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ.

INNAKA ANTAL GHAFOORUR RAHEEM.

Surely, You are the All-forgiving, the All-compassionate!
