The Night of Eid al-Azhaa (Qurban)

Text and Translation

The tenth night of Zilhajj is a blessed night since it is one of the four nights that should be advisably spent with acts of worship. At this night, the doors of the heavens are opened. It is also highly recommended to visit the tomb of Imam al-Husayn (a.s.) at this night and to say the supplication that has been previously cited in this book within the rites of Friday nights:

يَا دَاۤئِمَ الْفَضْلِ عَلَى الْبَرِيَّةِ

YAA DAA-EMAL FAZLE A’LAL BARIYYATE

O He Who is continuous in bestowing favor upon the creation!

يَا بَاسِطَ الْيَدَيْنِ بِالْعَطِيَّةِ

YAA BAASETAL YADAYNE BIL-A’TIYYATE

O He Who extends both hands with giving!

يَا صَاحِبَ الْمَوَاهِبِ السَّنِيَّةِ

YAA SAAHEBAL MAWAAHEBIS SANIYYATE

O Owner of magnificent gifts!

صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ

SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALEHI

Bless Muhammad and his family—

خَيْرِ الْوَرٰى سَجِيَّةً

KHAYRIL WARAA SAJIYYATANW

the best of mankind in natural disposition—

وَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا يَا ذَا الْعُلٰى

WAGH FIR LANAA YAA ZAL O’LAA

and forgive us, O Possessor of Exaltation,

فِي هٰذِهِ الْعَشِيَّةِ

FEE HAAZEHIL A’SHIYYATE.

on this evening.
