For those suffering from eye aches, many traditions have recommended saying the following supplicatory prayer after the ritual obligatory prayers of dawn (fajr) and sunset (maghrib):

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS-ALUKA BI-HAQQI MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMADIN A'LAYKA AN TUSALLIYA A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMADIN WA AN TAJ-A'LAN NOORA FEE BASAREE WAL BASEERATA FEE DEENEE WAL YAQEENA FEE QALBEE WAL IKHLAASA FEE A'MALEE WAS SALAAMATA FEE NAFSEE WAS SA-A'TA FEE RIZQEE WASH SHUKRA LAKA ABADAM MAA ABQAYTANEE

O Allah, I ask You by the right of Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad upon You, that You send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and that You place light in my sight, insight in my religion, certitude in my heart, sincerity in my deeds, well-being in myself, abundance in my sustenance, and thankfulness to You for as long as You let me remain.

Al-Bizanti reported Yunus ibn Zabyan as saying: one day we visited Imam al-Sadiq (a) and found him tensely sore-eyed, so we were troubled. The next morning, we visited him while he was completely healed. Surprised, we asked him, "May Allah accept us as ransoms for you! Have you treated your eyes with a certain medicine?" The Imam answered, "Yes, I have; I have treated them with the best of all medicines." "What is that?" we asked. The Imam (a) answered, "It is a supplicatory amulet." We therefore wrote down that supplicatory amulet, which is as follows:

A'OOZU BI-I'ZZATILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-QUWWATILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-QUDRATILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-NOORILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-A'ZAMATILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-JALAALILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-JAMAALILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-BAHAAA-ILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-JAM-I'LLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-A'FWILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-GHUFRAANILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BI-RASOOLILLAAHI WA A'OOZU BIL AAA-IMMATI A'LAA MAA TASHAAA-U MIN SHARRI MAAA AJID, ALLAAHUMMA RABBAL MUTEE-E'EN

I seek refuge in the might of Allah, and I seek refuge in the strength of Allah, and I seek refuge in the power of Allah, and I seek refuge in the light of Allah, and I seek refuge in the majesty of Allah, and I seek refuge in the glory of Allah, and I seek refuge in the beauty of Allah, and I seek refuge in the splendor of Allah, and I seek refuge in the wholeness of Allah, and I seek refuge in the pardon of Allah, and I seek refuge in the forgiveness of Allah, and I seek refuge in the Messenger of Allah, and I seek refuge in the Imams, against whatever You will of the evil that I find. O Allah, Lord of the obedient.

When we asked the Imam (a) about the meaning of jam'allah, he said, "It means the wholeness of Allah."

It is also reported that one who suffers from eye pains may recite Ayat al-Kursi and believe inwardly that reciting this holy verse will cure him of that pain. Before reciting this holy verse, one suffering from eye pains is advised to put a hand on the eye and say the following:

U'EEZU NOORA BASAREE BI-NOORILLAAHIL LAZEE LAA YUTFAAA-U

I place the light of my sight in refuge with the light of Allah, which is never extinguished.

This will be useful.

A supplicatory amulet against nyctalopia (reduction or loss of vision in dim light): those who suffer from it are recommended to write down [Ayah al-Nur](A28) several times on a sheet of paper into a cup, wash it, put it in a flask, and use it as eye ointment.

It is also reported that whoever recites the Holy Qur'an from copies of the Holy Qur'an will enjoy strong sight. It is also reported that whoever repeats the following holy verse every day, his eyes will be saved from all optical troubles:

FA-JA-A'LNAAHU SAMEE-A'M BASEERAA

So We made him hearing and seeing.

Al-Kaf'ami says: according to experience, seeking the advocacy of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a) is useful for the cure of eye pains as well as the troubles of other organs.
