Quoting the book of al-Da’waat by al-Khateeb al-Mustaghferi, Sayyed Ibn Taaoos has reported the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) to have said:
“When you want to seek a portent (tafaaul) in the Book of Allah the Almighty and All-majestic, you may recite [Surah al-Tawheed](A116) three time, invoke Allah’s blessings upon the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and his Household three times, and say these words:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْ تَفَاَّلْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ
ALLAAHUMMA INNEE TAFAA-ALTO BE-KETAABEKA
O Allah, indeed I seek a good omen from Your Book
وَ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَيْكَ فَاَرِنِىْ مِنْ كِتَابِكَ
WA TAWAKKALTO A’LAYKA FA-ARENEE MIN KETAABEKA
and I place my absolute trust in You; so show me from Your Book
مَا هُوَ مَكْتُوْمٌ مِّنْ سِرِّكَ الْمَكْنُوْنِ فِىْ غَيْبِكَ.
MAA HOWA MAKTOOMUM MIN SIRRIKAL MAKNOONE FEE GHAYBEKA.
that which is hidden of Your concealed secret within Your Unseen.
You may then open a (complete) copy of the Holy Qur’an and take the portent from the first line on the first side (i.e. of the two pages) without counting the papers or the lines.”
