Seventh Ziyarah

Text and Translation

This form of Ziyarah has been reported by Sayyid Ibn Tawus, in his book entitled Misbah al-Za’ir, who, instructing the method of this ziyarah, says:

When you stop at the Door of Peace (bab al-salam: the gate of Imam ‘Ali’s holy shrine) where you can see the holy tomb, you may repeat the following phrase forty-three times:

اَللهُ اَكْبَرُ

ALLAAHU AKBAR

Allah is the Most Great.

You may then say the following words:

سَلَامُ اللّٰهِ وَ سَلَامُ مَلَاۤئِكَتِهِ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ وَ اَنْبِيَاۤئِهِ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ وَ عِبَادِهِ الصَّالِحِيْنَ وَ جَمِيْعِ الشُّهَدَاۤءِ وَ الصِّدِّيْقِيْنَ عَلَيْكَ يَاۤ اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اٰدَمَ صِفْوَةِ اللّٰهِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى نُوْحٍ نَبِيِّ اللّٰهِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اِبْرَاهِيْمَ خَلِيْلِ اللّٰهِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُوْسٰى كَلِيْمِ اللّٰهِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى عِيسٰى رُوْحِ اللّٰهِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ حَبِيْبِ اللّٰهِ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى اسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّضِيِّ وَ وَجْهِهِ الْعَلِيِّ وَ صِرَاطِهِ السَّوِيِّ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمُهَذَّبِ الصَّفِيِّ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اَبِي الْحَسَنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَبِيْ طَالِبٍ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى خَالِصِ الْاَخِلَّاۤءِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَخْصُوْصِ بِسَيِّدَةِ النِّسَاۤءِ، اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَوْلُوْدِ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ الْمُزَوَّجِ فِيْ السَّمَاۤءِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اَسَدِ اللّٰهِ فِي الْوَغٰى اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ شُرِّفَتْ بِهٖ مَكَّةُ وَ مِنٰى اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى صَاحِبِ الْحَوْضِ وَ حَامِلِ اللِّوَاۤءِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى خَامِسِ اَهْلِ الْعَبَاۤءِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْبَاۤئِتِ عَلٰى فِرَاشِ النَّبِيِّ وَ مُفْدِيْهِ بِنَفْسِهٖ مِنَ الْاَعْدَاۤءِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى قَالِعِ بَابِ خَيْبَرَ وَ الدَّاحِيْ بِهٖ فِي الْفَضَاۤءِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُكَلِّمِ الْفِتْيَةِ فِيْ كَهْفِهِمْ بِلِسَانِ الْاَنْبِيَاۤءِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُنْبِعِ الْقَلِيْبِ فِي الْفَلَا اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى قَالِعِ الصَّخْرَةِ وَ قَدْ عَجَزَ عَنْهَا الرِّجَالُ الْاَشِدَّاۤءُ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُخَاطِبِ الثُّعْبَانِ عَلٰى مِنْبَرِ الْكُوْفَةِ بِلِسَانِ الْفُصَحَاۤءِ، اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُخَاطِبِ الذِّئْبِ وَ مُكَلِّمِ الْجُمْجُمَةِ بِالنَّهْرَوَانِ وَ قَدْ نَخِرَتِ الْعِظَامُ بِالْبِلٰى اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى صَاحِبِ الشَّفَاعَةِ فِيْ يَوْمِ الْوَرٰى وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْاِمَامِ الزَّكِيِّ حَلِيْفِ الْمِحْرَابِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى صَاحِبِ الْمُعْجِزِ الْبَاهِرِ وَ النَّاطِقِ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَ الصَّوَابِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ عِنْدَهٗ تَاْوِيْلُ الْمُحْكَمِ وَ الْمُتَشَابِهٖ وَ عِنْدَهٗ اُمُّ الْكِتَابِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ رُدَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ حِيْنَ تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُحْيِي اللَّيْلِ الْبَهِيْمِ بِالتَّهَجُّدِ وَ الْاِكْتِيَابِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ خَاطَبَهٗ جَبْرَئِيْلُ بِاِمْرَةِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ بِغَيْرِ ارْتِيَابٍ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ، اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى سَيِّدِ السَّادَاتِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى صَاحِبِ الْمُعْجِزَاتِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ عَجِبَ مِنْ حَمَلَاتِهٖ فِي الْحُرُوْبِ مَلَاۤئِكَةُ سَبْعِ سَمَاوَاتٍ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ نَاجَى الرَّسُوْلَ فَقَدَّمَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاهُ صَدَقَاتٍ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اَمِيْرِ الْجُيُوْشِ وَ صَاحِبِ الْغَزَوَاتِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مُخَاطِبِ ذِئْبِ الْفَلَوَاتِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى نُوْرِ اللّٰهِ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ رُدَّتْ لَهُ الشَّمْسُ فَقَضٰى مَا فَاتَهٗ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اِمَامِ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى وَارِثِ عِلْمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ، اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى يَعْسُوْبِ الدِّيْنِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى عِصْمَةِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى قُدْوَةِ الصَّادِقِيْنَ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى حُجَّةِ الْاَبْرَارِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اَبِي الْاَئِمَّةِ الْاَطْهَارِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَخْصُوْصِ بِذِي الْفَقَارِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى سَاقِيْ اَوْلِيَاۤئِهٖ مِنْ حَوْضِ النَّبِيِّ الْمُخْتَارِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهِ مَا اطَّرَدَ اللَّيْلُ وَ النَّهَارُ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى النَّبَاِ الْعَظِيْمِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى مَنْ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ فِيْهِ وَ اِنَّهٗ فِي اُمِّ الْكِتَابِ لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيْمٌ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى صِرَاطِ اللّٰهِ الْمُسْتَقِيْمِ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَنْعُوْتِ فِيْ التَّوْرَاةِ وَ الْاِنْجِيْلِ وَ الْقُرْاٰنِ الْحَكِيْمِ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ.

SALAAMUL LAAHI WA SALAAMU MALAA-IKATIHIL MUQARRABEENA WA ANBIYAA-IHIL MURSALEENA WA I'BAADIHIS SAALIHEENA WA JAMEE'ISH SHUHADAA-I WAS SIDDEEQEENA A'LAYKA YAA AMEERAL MU'MINEENA ASSALAAMU A'LAA AADAMA SIFWATIL LAAHI ASSALAAMU A'LAA NOOHIN NABIYYIL LAAHI ASSALAAMU A'LAA IBRAAHEEMA KHALEELIL LAAHI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MOOSAA KALEEMIL LAAHI ASSALAAMU A'LAA I'ESAA ROOHIL LAAHI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MUHAMMADIN HABEEBIL LAAHI WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUHOO ASSALAAMU A'LAASMIL LAAHIR RAZIYYI WA WAJHIHIL 'ALIYYI WA SIRAATIHIS SAWIYYI ASSALAAMU A'LAL MUHAZZABIS SAFIYYI ASSALAAMU A'LAA ABIL HASANI A'LIYYI BNI ABEE TAALIBIN WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUHOO ASSALAAMU A'LAA KHAALISIL AKHILLAA-I ASSALAAMU A'LAL MAKHSOOSI BISAYYIDATIN NISAA', ASSALAAMU A'LAL MAWLOODI FIL KA'BATIL MUZAWWAJI FIS SAMAA-I ASSALAAMU A'LAA ASADIL LAAHI FIL WAGHAA ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN SHURRIFAT BIHEE MAKKATU WA MINAA ASSALAAMU A'LAA SAAHIBIL HAWZI WA HAAMILIL LIWAA-I ASSALAAMU A'LAA KHAAMISI AHLIL 'ABAA-I ASSALAAMU A'LAL BAA-ITI A'LAA FIRAASHIN NABIYYI WA MUFDEEHI BINAFSIHEE MINAL A'DAA-I ASSALAAMU A'LAA QAALI'I BAABI KHAYBARA WAD DAAHEE BIHEE FIL FAZAA-I ASSALAAMU A'LAA MUKALLIMIL FITYATI FEE KAHFIHIM BILISAANIL ANBIYAA-I ASSALAAMU A'LAA MUNBI'IL QALEEBI FIL FALAA ASSALAAMU A'LAA QAALI'IS SAKHRATI WA QAD A'JAZA A'NHAR RIJAALUL ASHIDDAA-U ASSALAAMU A'LAA MUKHAATIBIS SU'BAANI A'LAA MINBARIL KOOFATI BILISAANIL FUSAHAA', ASSALAAMU A'LAA MUKHAATIBIZ ZI'BI WA MUKALLIMIL JUMJUMATI BIN NAHRAWAANI WA QAD NAKHIRATIL 'IZAAMU BIL BILAA ASSALAAMU A'LAA SAAHIBISH SHAFAA'ATI FEE YAWMIL WARAA WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUHOO ASSALAAMU A'LAL IMAAMIZ ZAKIYYI HALEEFIL MIHRAABI ASSALAAMU A'LAA SAAHIBIL MU'JIZIL BAAHIRI WAN NAATIQI BIL HIKMATI WAS SAWAABI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN I'NDAHOO TA'WEELUL MUHKAMI WAL MUTASHAABIHEE WA I'NDAHOO UMMUL KITAABI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN RUDDAT A'LAYHISH SHAMSU HEENA TAWAARAT BIL HIJAABI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MUHYIL LAYLIL BAHEEMI BIT TAHAJJUDI WAL IKTIYAABI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN KHAATABAHOO JABRA-EELU BI-IMRATIL MU'MINEENA BIGHAYRIRTIYAABIN WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUH, ASSALAAMU A'LAA SAYYIDIS SAADAATI ASSALAAMU A'LAA SAAHIBIL MU'JIZAATI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN A'JIBA MIN HAMALAATIHEE FIL HUROOBI MALAA-IKATU SAB'I SAMAAWAATIN ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN NAAJAR RASOOLA FAQADDAMA BAYNA YADAY NAJWAAHU SADAQAATIN ASSALAAMU A'LAA AMEERIL JUYOOSHI WA SAAHIBIL GHAZAWAATI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MUKHAATIBI ZI'BIL FALAWAATI ASSALAAMU A'LAA NOORIL LAAHI FIZ ZULUMAATI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN RUDDAT LAHUSH SHAMSU FAQAZAA MAA FAATAHOO MINAS SALAATI WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUHOO ASSALAAMU A'LAA AMEERIL MU'MINEENA ASSALAAMU A'LAA SAYYIDIL WASIYYEENA ASSALAAMU A'LAA IMAAMIL MUTTAQEENA ASSALAAMU A'LAA WAARISI I'LMIN NABIYYEEN, ASSALAAMU A'LAA YA'SOOBID DEENI ASSALAAMU A'LAA I'SMATIL MU'MINEENA ASSALAAMU A'LAA QUDWATIS SAADIQEENA WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUHOO ASSALAAMU A'LAA HUJJATIL ABRAARI ASSALAAMU A'LAA ABIL A-IMMATIL ATHAARI ASSALAAMU A'LAL MAKHSOOSI BIZIL FAQAARI ASSALAAMU A'LAA SAAQEE AWLIYAA-IHEE MIN HAWZIN NABIYYIL MUKHTAARI SALLAL LAAHU A'LAYHI WA AALIHI MAA ATTARADAL LAYLU WAN NAHAARU ASSALAAMU A'LAN NABA-IL 'AZEEMI ASSALAAMU A'LAA MAN ANZALAL LAAHU FEEHI WA INNAHOO FEE UMMIL KITAABI LADAYNAA LA'ALIYYUN HAKEEMUN ASSALAAMU A'LAA SIRAATIL LAAHIL MUSTAQEEMI ASSALAAMU A'LAL MAN'OOTI FIT TAWRAATI WAL INJEELI WAL QURAANIL HAKEEMI WA RAHMATUL LAAHI WA BARAKAATUH.

Allah and peace of His Archangels, His missioned Prophets, and His righteous saints, and [peace of] all the martyrs and the veracious be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful. Peace be upon Adam the choice of Allah. Peace be upon Noah the prophet of Allah. Peace be upon Abraham the intimate friend of Allah. Peace be upon Moses the spoken to by Allah. Peace be upon Jesus the Spirit of Allah. Peace be upon Muhammad the beloved by Allah. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon them, too. Peace be upon the pleased name of Allah, His most elevated Face, and His straight path. Peace be upon the refined, purified one. Peace be upon Abu’l-Hasan, ‘Ali the son of Abu-Talib. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him, too. Peace be upon the choicest friend. Peace be upon the one particularly married to the doyenne of the women [of the world]. Peace be upon the one born in the Ka'bah and married in the heavens. Peace be upon the lion of Allah in battlefields. Peace be upon the one by whom Makkah and Mina have been honored. Peace be upon the one in charge of the Divine Pond and the bearer of the pennon [on the Resurrection Day]. Peace be upon the fifth of the Cloak Members. Peace be upon the one who replaced the Prophet in his bed and thus sacrificed himself for the Prophet against the enemies. Peace be upon the one who plucked up the gate of Khaybar city and threw it far away in the air. Peace be upon the one who spoke to the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus in their cave with the language of the Prophets. Peace be upon the one who caused a ruined well in the desert to spring forth with water. Peace be upon the one who moved a rock after strong men could not even move it. Peace be upon the one who spoke to a serpent from the minbar (pulpit) of al-Kufah Mosque with an eloquent language. Peace be upon the one who spoke to a wolf and spoke to a skull whose bones were decayed in al-Nahrawan. Peace be upon the one granted the right of intercession on the Assembly Day. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him, too. Peace be upon the pure leader who stuck to the mihrab (prayer niche). Peace be upon the owner of astounding miracles and who speaks with wisdom and sagacity. Peace be upon the one who holds the interpretation of the decisive and the allegorical [verses of the Holy Qur’an] and holds the Basis of the [Holy] Book. Peace be upon the one to whom the sun was returned after it had disappeared beyond the veils of night. Peace be upon the one who spent the dark nights with acts of worship and pondération. Peace be upon the one who was addressed by Archangel Gabriel as the Commander of the Faithful, without any doubt. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him, too. Peace be upon the master of masters. Peace be upon the owner of miracles. Peace be upon the one whose campaigns in the battles were a source of astonishment for the angels of seven heavens. Peace be upon the one who, when he consulted the Holy Messenger, offered something in charity before his consultation. Peace be upon the commander of the armies and the leader of the battles. Peace be upon the one who spoke to a wolf in the desert. Peace be upon the light of Allah in murk. Peace be upon the one to whom the sun was returned so that he could made up the prayer that he had missed. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him, too. Peace be upon the Commander of the Faithful. Peace be upon the chief of the Prophets’ successors. Peace be upon the example of the pious ones. Peace be upon the inheritor of the Prophets’ knowledge. Peace be upon the head of the religion. Peace be upon the shelter of the believers. Peace be upon the pattern of the veracious ones. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him, too. Peace be upon the argument of the upright ones. Peace be upon the father of the Immaculate Imams. Peace be upon the one whom was given [the sword of] Dhu’l-Faqar exclusively. Peace be upon the one who shall water his adherents from the Pond of the Chosen Prophet, may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household as long as there is night and day coming after one another. Peace be upon the Great News. Peace be upon the one about whom the following verse was revealed by Almighty Allah: “And, indeed, in the origin of the Book with Us, it is decided that ‘Ali is wise.” Peace be upon the straight path of Allah. Peace be upon the one whose characteristics are mentioned in the Torah, the Bible, and the Wise Qur'an. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him, too.

You may then throw yourself on the tomb, kiss it, and say the following:

يَا اَمِيْنَ اللّٰهِ يَا حُجَّةَ اللّٰهِ يَا وَلِيَّ اللّٰهِ يَا صِرَاطَ اللّٰهِ زَارَكَ عَبْدُكَ وَ وَلِيُّكَ اللَّاۤئِذُ بِقَبْرِكَ وَ الْمُنِيْخُ رَحْلَهٗ بِفِنَاۤئِكَ الْمُتَقَرِّبُ اِلَى اللّٰهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ الْمُسْتَشْفِعُ بِكَ اِلَى اللّٰهِ زِيَارَةَ مَنْ هَجَرَ فِيْكَ صَحْبَهٗ وَ جَعَلَكَ بَعْدَ اللّٰهِ حَسْبَهٗ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ الطُّوْرُ وَ الْكِتَابُ الْمَسْطُوْرُ وَ الرَّقُّ الْمَنْشُوْرُ وَ بَحْرُ الْعِلْمِ الْمَسْجُوْرُ يَا وَلِيَّ اللّٰهِ اِنَّ لِكُلِّ مَزُوْرٍ عِنَايَةً فِيْمَنْ زَارَهٗ وَ قَصَدَهٗ وَ اَتَاهُ وَ اَنَا وَلِيُّكَ وَ قَدْ حَطَطْتُ رَحْلِيْ بِفِنَاۤئِكَ وَ لَجَاْتُ اِلٰى حَرَمِكَ وَ لُذْتُ بِضَرِيْحِكَ لِعِلْمِيْ بِعَظِيْمِ مَنْزِلَتِكَ وَ شَرَفِ حَضْرَتِكَ وَ قَدْ اَثْقَلَتِ الذُّنُوْبُ ظَهْرِيْ وَ مَنَعَتْنِي رُقَادِيْ فَمَاۤ اَجِدُ حِرْزًا وَ لَا مَعْقِلًا وَ لَا مَلْجَاً اَلْجَاُ اِلَيْهِ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى وَ تَوَسُّلِيْ بِكَ اِلَيْهِ وَ اسْتِشْفَاعِيْ بِكَ لَدَيْهِ فَهَا اَنَا نَازِلٌ بِفِنَاۤئِكَ وَ لَكَ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ جَاهٌ عَظِيْمٌ وَ مَقَامٌ كَرِيْمٌ فَاشْفَعْ لِيْ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ رَبِّكَ يَا مَوْلَايَ

YAA AMEENAL LAAHI YAA HUJJATAL LAAHI YAA WALIYYAL LAAHI YAA SIRAATAL LAAHI ZAARAKA A'BDUKA WA WALIYYUKAL LAA-IZU BIQABRIKA WAL MUNEEKHU RAHLAHOO BIFINAA-IKAL MUTAQARRIBU ILAL LAAHI A'ZZA WA JALLA WAL MUSTASHFI'U BIKA ILAL LAAHI ZIYAARATA MAN HAJARA FEEKA SAHBAHOO WA JA'ALAKA BA'DAL LAAHI HASBAHOO ASHHADU ANNAKAT TOORU WAL KITAABUL MASTOORU WAR RAQQUL MANSHOORU WA BAHRUL 'ILMIL MASJOORU YAA WALIYYAL LAAHI INNA LIKULLI MAZOORIN I'NAAYATAN FEEMAN ZAARAHOO WA QASADAHOO WA ATAAHU WA ANAA WALIYYUKA WA QAD HATATTU RAHLEE BIFINAA-IKA WA LAJA'TU ILAA HARAMIKA WA LUZTU BIZAREEHIKA LI'ILMEE BI'AZEEMI MANZILATIKA WA SHARAFI HAZRATIKA WA QAD ASQALATIZ ZUNOOBU ZAHREE WA MANA'ATNEE RUQAADEE FAMAA AJIDU HIRZAN WA LAA MA'QILAN WA LAA MALJAAN ALJA-U ILAYHI ILLAL LAAHU TA'AALAA WA TAWASSULEE BIKA ILAYHI WASTISHFAA'EE BIKA LADAYHI FAHAA ANAA NAAZILUN BIFINAA-IKA WA LAKA I'NDAL LAAHI JAAHUN A'ZEEMUN WA MAQAAMUN KAREEMUN FASHFA' LEE I'NDAL LAAHI RABBIKA YAA MAWLAAY

O trustee of Allah! O argument of Allah! O saint of Allah! O path to Allah! I, your servant and adherent, have visited you, resorted to your tomb, resided in your courtyard, sought nearness to Allah the Almighty and All-majestic in the name of you, and sought your intercession for me before Allah, I am visiting you so sincerely that I have deserted my friends for so and I have relied upon you after Almighty Allah. I bear witness that you are the Mountain Tur (mount of revelation), the Written Book, the outstretched fine parchment, and the swollen ocean of knowledge. O saint of Allah! Indeed, each visited person is expected to pay special attention to the one who visits and conies to him. I, your adherent, have resided in your courtyard, resorted to your holy precinct, and had recourse to your tomb, because I have full acquaintance with the great standing that you enjoy and the gear honor that you hold. My sins have overburdened my back and deprived me of sleep. Therefore, I can find no shelter, no haven, and no refuge to which I resort save Almighty Allah, my begging you to be my mediator to Him, and my seeking your intercession for me before Him. I am thus residing in your courtyard and you enjoy a great standing with Almighty Allah as well as an honorable position; therefore, (please) intercede for me before your Lord, O master!

You may then kiss the tomb, turn your face towards the kiblah direction, and say the following supplicatory words:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْ اَتَقَرَّبُ اِلَيْكَ يَاۤ اَسْمَعَ السَّامِعِيْنَ وَ يَاۤ اَبْصَرَ النَّاظِرِيْنَ وَ يَاۤ اَسْرَعَ الْحَاسِبِيْنَ وَ يَاۤ اَجْوَدَ الْاَجْوَدِيْنَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ رَسُوْلِكَ اِلَى الْعَالَمِيْنَ وَ بِاَخِيْهِ وَ ابْنِ عَمِّهِ الْاَنْزَعِ الْبَطِيْنِ الْعَالِمِ الْمُبِيْنِ عَلِيٍّ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْحَسَنِ وَ الْحُسَيْنِ الْاِمَامَيْنِ الشَّهِيْدَيْنِ وَ بِعَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ زَيْنِ الْعَابِدِيْنَ وَ بِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ بَاقِرِ عِلْمِ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَ بِجَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ زَكِيِّ الصِّدِّيْقِيْنَ وَ بِمُوْسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْكَاظِمِ الْمُبِيْنِ [وَ حَبِيْسِ الظَّالِمِيْنَ‏] وَ بِعَلِيِّ بْنِ مُوْسَى الرِّضَا الْاَمِيْنِ وَ بِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْجَوَادِ عَلَمِ الْمُهْتَدِيْنَ وَ بِعَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَرِّ الصَّادِقِ سَيِّدِ الْعَابِدِيْنَ وَ بِالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْعَسْكَرِيِّ وَلِيِّ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ بِالْخَلَفِ الْحُجَّةِ صَاحِبِ الْاَمْرِ مُظْهِرِ الْبَرَاهِيْنِ اَنْ تَكْشِفَ مَا بِيْ مِنَ الْهُمُوْمِ وَ تَكْفِيَنِيْ شَرَّ الْبَلَاۤءِ الْمَحْتُوْمِ وَ تُجِيْرَنِيْ مِنَ النَّارِ ذَاتِ السَّمُوْمِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَاۤ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE ATAQARRABU ILAYKA YAA ASMA'AS SAAMI'EENA WA YAA ABSARAN NAAZIREENA WA YAA ASRA'AL HAASIBEENA WA YAA AJWADAL AJWADEENA BIMUHAMMADIN KHAATAMIN NABIYYEENA RASOOLIKA ILAL 'AALAMEENA WA BI-AKHEEHI WABNI A'MMIHIL ANZA'IL BATEENIL 'AALIMIL MUBEENI A'LIYYIN AMEERIL MU'MINEENA WAL HASANI WAL HUSAYNIL IMAAMAYNISH SHAHEEDAYNI WA BI'ALIYYI BNIL HUSAYNI ZAYNIL 'AABIDEENA WA BIMUHAMMADI BNI A'LIYYIN BAAQIRI I'LMIL AWWALEENA WA BIJA'FARI BNI MUHAMMADIN ZAKIYYIS SIDDEEQEENA WA BIMOOSAA BNI JA'FARINIL KAAZIMIL MUBEENI WA HABEESIZ ZAALIMEENA WA BI'ALIYYI BNI MOOSAR RIZAL AMEENI WA BIMUHAMMADI BNI A'LIYYINIL JAWAADI A'LAMIL MUHTADEENA WA BI'ALIYYI BNI MUHAMMADINIL BARRIS SAADIQI SAYYIDIL 'AABIDEENA WA BIL HASANI BNI A'LIYYINIL 'ASKARIYYI WALIYYIL MU'MINEENA WA BIL KHALAFIL HUJJATI SAAHIBIL AMRI MUZHIRIL BARAAHEENI AN TAKSHIFA MAA BEE MINAL HUMOOMI WA TAKFIYANEE SHARRAL BALAA-IL MAHTOOMI WA TUJEERANEE MINAN NAARI ZAATIS SAMOOMI BIRAHMATIKA YAA ARHAMAR RAAHIMEEN.

O Allah, I do seek nearness to You, O most Hearing of all those who can hear! O most Seeing of all those who can see! O quickest in reckon! O most Generous of all those who are generous, (I seek nearness to You) in the name of Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets and Your Messengers to all created beings, and in the name of his brother and cousin, the hero and erudite, the manifestly knowledgeable, ‘Ali, the Commander of the Faithful, and (in the names of) al-Hasan and al-Husayn, the two martyred Imams, and (in the name of) ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn, the adornment of the worshippers, and (in the name of) Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, the one who split the knowledge of the old ages, and (in the name of) Ja'far ibn Muhammad, the purest among the veracious ones, and (in the name of) Musa ibn Ja'far, the manifestly suppressor (of rage) and the imprisoned by the oppressors, and (in the name of) Ali ibn Musa, the pleased and trusted, and (in the name of) Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, the magnanimous and the epitome of the guided ones (to the true path), and (in the name of) ‘Ali ibn Muhammad, the upright, the veracious, and the master of worshippers, and (in the name of) al-Hasan ibn 'Ali al-'Askari, the chief of the believers, and (in the name of) the Successor, the Argument, the Patron of the Affair, and the Demonstrator of Proofs, (I beseech You in the name of all these) to relieve the grievances that I experience, to save me from the evils of predetermined ordeals, and to release me from the hot-winded fire, (I beseech You) in the name of Your mercy, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

Then, you may pray Almighty Allah to grant you your personal requests, bid farewell to the Imam (‘a), and leave.
