Merits
Among the recommended rites of Fridays, Shaykh al-Tusi, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, records an invocation of blessings upon the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), Lady Fatimah (s.a.) and each of the Imams (a.s.) in turn, reported from Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari (a.s.). This is its part upon Imam al-Baqir (a.s.).
Text and Translation
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ بَاقِرِ الْعِلْمِ
ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIBNI A'LIYYIN BAAQIRIL I'LM
O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad the son of Ali, the splitter of knowledge,
وَاِمَامِ الْهُدٰى وَقَاۤئِدِ اَهْلِ التَّقْوٰى
WA IMAAMIL HUDAA WA QAA'IDI AHLIT TAQWAA
the leader to true guidance, the chief of the people of piety,
وَالْمُنْتَجَبِ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ
WAL MUNTAJABI MIN I'BAADIK
and the superbly selected from among Your servants.
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَكَمَا جَعَلْتَهٗ عَلَمًا لِعِبَادِكَ
ALLAAHUMMA WA KAMAA JA'ALTAHOO A'LAMAN LI-I'BAADIK
O Allah, as You have made him a sign for Your servants,
وَمَنَارًا لِبِلَادِكَ
WA MANAARAN LIBILAADIK
a lantern in Your lands,
وَمُسْتَوْدَعًا لِحِكْمَتِكَ
WA MUSTAWDA'AN LIHIKMATIK
a depository of Your wisdom,
وَمُتَرْجِمًا لِوَحْيِكَ
WA MUTARJIMAN LIWAHYIK
and an interpreter of Your revelations,
وَاَمَرْتَ بِطَاعَتِهٖ وَحَذَّرْتَ مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِهٖ
WA AMARTA BITAA'ATIHEE WA HADHDHARTA MIN MA'SIYATIH
and You ordered (us) to obey him and warned (us) against disobeying him;
فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ يَا رَبِّ
FASALLI A'LAYHI YAA RABB
so also (please), O Lord, send blessings upon him
اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰىۤ اَحَدٍ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّةِ اَنْبِيَاۤئِكَ
AFDALA MAA SALLAYTA A'LAA AHADIM MIN DHURRIYYATI ANBIYAA'IK
with the most excellent blessings that You have ever sent upon any of the offspring of Your Prophets,
وَاَصْفِيَاۤئِكَ وَرُسُلِكَ وَاُمَنَاۤئِكَ
WA ASFIYAA'IKA WA RUSULIKA WA UMANAA'IK
Elite Ones, Messengers, and trustees.
يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
YAA RABBAL A'ALAMEEN
O Lord of the worlds!
