Merits
Among the recommended rites of Fridays, Shaykh al-Tusi, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, records an invocation of blessings upon the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), Lady Fatimah (s.a.) and each of the Imams (a.s.) in turn, reported from Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari (a.s.). This is its part upon Imam al-Reza (a.s.).
Text and Translation
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُوسَىٰ
ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAA A'LIYYIBNI MOOSAA
O Allah, (please) send blessings upon 'Ali the son of Musa
الَّذِي ارْتَضَيْتَهٗ وَرَضَّيْتَ بِهٖ مَنْ شِئْتَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
ALLADHIR TADAYTAHOO WA RADDAYTA BIHEE MAN SHI'TA MIN KHALQIK
whom You have accepted and through whom You have satisfied whomever of Your creatures that You wish.
اَللَّهُمَّ وَكَمَا جَعَلْتَهٗ حُجَّةً عَلَىٰ خَلْقِكَ
ALLAAHUMMA WA KAMAA JA'ALTAHOO HUJJATAN A'LAA KHALQIK
O Allah, as You have made him act as argument against Your creatures,
وَقَائِماً بِاَمْرِكَ
WA QAA'IMAN BI-AMRIK
undertake the mission by Your command,
وَنَاصِراً لِدِينِكَ
WA NAASIRAN LIDEENIK
support Your religion,
وَشَاهِداً عَلَىٰ عِبَادِكَ
WA SHAAHIDAN A'LAA I'BAADIK
witness against Your servants,
وَكَمَا نَصَحَ لَهُمْ فِي السِّرِّ وَالْعَلَانِيَةِ
WA KAMAA NASAHA LAHUM FIS SIRRI WAL A'LAANIYAH
and as he acted sincerely towards them in secret and in open
وَدَعَا اِلَىٰ سَبِيلِكَ
WA DA-A'AA ILAA SABEELIK
and called to Your way
بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ
BIL HIKMATI WAL MAW'IZATIL HASANAH
with wisdom and excellent exhortation,
فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ
FASALLI A'LAYH
so also (please) bless him
اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ اَحَدٍ
AFDALA MAA SALLAYTA A'LAA AHAD
with the most favorite blessings that You have ever bestowed
مِنْ اَوْلِيَائِكَ وَخِيَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
MIN AWLIYAA'IKA WA KHIYARATIKA MIN KHALQIK
upon any of Your intimate servants and Your choice ones over Your creatures.
اِنَّكَ جَوَادٌ كَرِيمٌ
INNAKA JAWAADUN KAREEM
Verily, You are All-magnanimous, All-generous.
