Merits
Among the recommended rites of Fridays, Shaykh al-Tusi, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, records an invocation of blessings upon the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), Lady Fatimah (s.a.) and each of the Imams (a.s.) in turn, reported from Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari (a.s.). This is its part upon Imam Zayn al-Abidin (a.s.).
Text and Translation
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ سَيِّدِ الْعَابِدِيْنَ
ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAA A'LIYYIBNIL HUSAYNI SAYYIDIL A'ABIDEEN
O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Ali the son of al-Husayn, the chief of worshippers,
الَّذِي اسْتَخْلَصْتَهٗ لِنَفْسِكَ
ALLADHIS TAKHLASTAHOO LINAFSIK
whom You have purely dedicated to Yourself,
وَجَعَلْتَ مِنْهُ اَئِمَّةَ الْهُدٰى
WA JA'ALTA MINHU A'IMMATAL HUDAA
and from whom You brought forth the Leaders of True Guidance
الَّذِيْنَ يَهْدُوْنَ بِالْحَقِّ وَبِهٖ يَعْدِلُوْنَ
ALLADHEENA YAHDOONA BIL HAQQI WA BIHEE YA'DILOON
who guide to the truth and judge with it.
اخْتَرْتَهٗ لِنَفْسِكَ
IKHTARTAHOO LINAFSIK
You have chosen him for Yourself,
وَطَهَّرْتَهٗ مِنَ الرِّجْسِ
WA TAHHARTAHOO MINAR RIJS
purified him against filth,
وَاصْطَفَيْتَهٗ وَجَعَلْتَهٗ هَادِيًا مَهْدِيًّا
WASTAFAYTAHOO WA JA'ALTAHOO HAADIYAN MAHDIYYAA
selected him, and made him guide and well-guided.
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ
ALLAAHUMMA FASALLI A'LAYH
O Allah, send blessings upon him
اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰىۤ اَحَدٍ مِّنْ ذُرِّيَّةِ اَنْبِيَاۤئِكَ
AFDALA MAA SALLAYTA A'LAA AHADIM MIN DHURRIYYATI ANBIYAA'IK
with the most excellent blessings that You have ever sent upon any of Your Prophets' offspring
حَتّٰى يَبْلُغَ بِهٖ مَا تَقَرُّ بِهٖ عَيْنُهٗ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِ
HATTAA YABLUGHA BIHEE MAA TAQARRU BIHEE A'YNUHOO FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHIRAH
so that these blessings raise him to what delights his eye in this world and the Hereafter.
اِنَّكَ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ
INNAKA A'ZEEZUN HAKEEM
You are verily Almighty and Wise.
