Salawat upon Imam al-Hasan and Imam al-Husayn (a.s.)

Text and Translation

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAL HASANI WAL HUSAYN

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon al-Hasan and al-Husayn,

عَبْدَيْكَ وَوَلِيَّيْكَ

A'BDAYKA WA WALIYYAYK

Your two servants and friends,

وَابْنَيْ رَسُولِكَ وَسِبْطَيِ الرَّحْمَةِ

WABNAY RASOOLIKA WA SIBTAYIR RAHMAH

the two sons of Your Messenger, the two grandsons of Mercy,

وَسَيِّدَيْ شَبَابِ اَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ

WA SAYYIDAY SHABAABI AHLIL JANNAH

and the two chiefs of the youth of Paradise,

اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ اَحَدٍ مِنْ اَوْلَادِ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالْمُرْسَلِينَ

AFDALA MAA SALLAYTA A'LAA AHADIN MIN AWLAADIN NABIYYEENA WAL MURSALEEN

with the most excellent blessings that You have ever sent upon any of the sons of the Prophets and the Messengers.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ الْحَسَنِ ابْنِ سَيِّدِ النَّبِيِّينَ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAL HASANIBNI SAYYIDIN NABIYYEEN

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon al-Hasan the son of the chief of the Prophets

وَوَصِيِّ اَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

WA WASIYYI AMEERIL MU'MINEEN

and the successor of the Commander of the Faithful.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA YABNA RASOOLILLAAH

Peace be upon you, O son of Allah's Messenger.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّينَ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA YABNA SAYYIDIL WASIYYEEN

Peace be upon you, O son of the chief of the Prophets’ successors.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ يَا بْنَ اَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

ASH-HADU ANNAKA YABNA AMEERIL MU'MINEEN

I bear witness that you are verily the son of the Commander of the Faithful,

اَمِينُ اللَّهِ وَابْنُ اَمِينِهٖ

AMEENULLAAHI WABNU AMEENIH

the trustee of Allah, and the son of His trustee.

عِشْتَ رَشِيداً مَظْلُوماً

I'SHTA RASHEEDAN MAZLOOMAA

You lived upright and persecuted

وَمَضَيْتَ شَهِيداً

WA MADAYTA SHAHEEDAA

and passed away as martyr.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ الاِمَامُ الزَّكِيُّ

WA ASH-HADU ANNAKAL IMAAMUZ ZAKIYY

And I bear witness that you are verily the pure,

الْهَادِي الْمَهْدِيُّ

AL-HAADIL MAHDIYY

guiding, and well-guided leader.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAYH

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon him

وَبَلِّغْ رُوحَهٗ وَجَسَدَهٗ عَنِّي

WA BALLIGH ROOHAHOO WA JASADAHOO A'NNEE

and convey to his soul and body

فِي هٰذِهِ السَّاعَةِ اَفْضَلَ التَّحِيَّةِ وَالسَّلَامِ

FEE HAADHIHIS SAA'ATI AFDALAT TAHIYYATI WAS SALAAM

at this hour the best greeting and salutation from me.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAL HUSAYNIBNI A'LIYY

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon al-Husayn the son of 'Ali,

الْمَظْلُومِ الشَّهِيدِ

AL-MAZLOOMISH SHAHEED

the oppressed, the martyr,

قَتِيلِ الْكَفَرَةِ وَطَرِيحِ الْفَجَرَةِ

QATEELIL KAFARATI WA TAREEHIL FAJARAH

the slain by the unbelievers, and the thrown down by the sinful people.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA YAA ABAA A'BDILLAAH

Peace be upon you, O Abu-'Abdullah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA YABNA RASOOLILLAAH

Peace be upon you, O son of Allah's Messenger.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ اَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

AS-SALAAMU A'LAYKA YABNA AMEERIL MU'MINEEN

Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful.

اَشْهَدُ مُوقِناً اَنَّكَ اَمِينُ اللَّهِ وَابْنُ اَمِينِهٖ

ASH-HADU MOOQINAN ANNAKA AMEENULLAAHI WABNU AMEENIH

I bear witness with full conviction that you are verily the trustee of Allah and the son of His trustee.

قُتِلْتَ مَظْلُوماً وَمَضَيْتَ شَهِيداً

QUTILTA MAZLOOMAN WA MADAYTA SHAHEEDAA

You were killed wrongly and you passed away as martyr.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَىٰ الطَّالِبُ بِثَاْرِكَ

WA ASH-HADU ANNALLAAHA TA'AALAT TAALIBU BITHA'RIK

I also bear witness that Allah the All-exalted is the One Who shall avenge You

وَمُنْجِزٌ مَا وَعَدَكَ مِنَ النَّصْرِ وَالتَّاْيِيدِ

WA MUNJIZUN MAA WA-A'DAKA MINAN NASRI WAT TA'YEED

and shall fulfill His promise to You of support and victory

فِي هَلَاكِ عَدُوِّكَ وَاِظْهَارِ دَعْوَتِكَ

FEE HALAAKI A'DUWWIKA WA IZHAARI DA'WATIK

through exterminating your enemies and demonstrating your call (to the true guidance).

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ وَفَيْتَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ

WA ASH-HADU ANNAKA WAFAYTA BI-A'HDILLAAH

I also bear witness that you fulfilled your covenant with Allah,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ

WA JAAHADTA FEE SABEELILLAAH

strove hard for His sake,

وَعَبَدْتَ اللَّهَ مُخْلِصاً حَتَّىٰ اَتَاكَ الْيَقِينُ

WA A'BADTALLAAHA MUKHLISAN HATTAA ATAAKAL YAQEEN

and served Allah sincerely until death came upon you.

لَعَنَ اللَّهُ اُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ

LA-A'NALLAAHU UMMATAN QATALATK

May Allah curse the people who killed you.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ اُمَّةً خَذَلَتْكَ

WA LA-A'NALLAAHU UMMATAN KHADHALATK

May Allah curse the people who disappointed you.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ اُمَّةً اَلَّبَتْ عَلَيْكَ

WA LA-A'NALLAAHU UMMATAN ALLABAT A'LAYK

May Allah curse the people who incited people against you.

وَاَبْرَاُ اِلَىٰ اللَّهِ تَعَالَىٰ مِمَّنْ اَكْذَبَكَ

WA ABRA'U ILALLAAHI TA'AALAA MIMMAN AKDHABAK

I release myself before Allah the All-exalted from those who belied you,

وَاسْتَخَفَّ بِحَقِّكَ وَاسْتَحَلَّ دَمَكَ

WASTAKHAFFA BIHAQQIKA WASTAHALLA DAMAK

belittled your right, and allowed themselves to shed your blood.

بِاَبِي اَنْتَ وَاُمِّي يَا اَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

BI-ABEE ANTA WA UMMEE YAA ABAA A'BDILLAAH

May my father and mother be ransoms for you.

لَعَنَ اللَّهُ قَاتِلَكَ

LA-A'NALLAAHU QAATILAK

Allah's curse be on those who killed you.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ خَاذِلَكَ

WA LA-A'NALLAAHU KHAADHILAK

Allah's curse be on those who let you down.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَنْ سَمِعَ وَاعِيَتَكَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْكَ وَلَمْ يَنْصُرْكَ

WA LA-A'NALLAAHU MAN SAMI'A WAA'IYATAKA FALAM YUJIBKA WA LAM YANSURK

Allah's curse be on those who heard your call (for help), but they refrained from responding to you or supporting you.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَنْ سَبَىٰ نِسَاءَكَ

WA LA-A'NALLAAHU MAN SABAA NISAA'AK

Allah's curse be on those who captured your women.

اَنَا اِلَىٰ اللَّهِ مِنْهُمْ بَرِيءٌ وَمِمَّنْ وَالَاهُمْ

ANAA ILALLAAHI MINHUM BAREE'UN WA MIMMAN WAALAAHUM

I disavow them all before Allah and disavow those who adhered to them,

وَمَالَاَهُمْ وَاَعَانَهُمْ عَلَيْهِ

WA MAALA'AHUM WA A'AANAHUM A'LAYH

those who kept up with them, and those who helped them against you.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ وَالْاَئِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِكَ كَلِمَةُ التَّقْوَىٰ

WA ASH-HADU ANNAKA WAL A'IMMATA MIN WULDIKA KALIMATUT TAQWAA

I also bear witness that you and the Imams from your descendants are the word of piety,

وَبَابُ الْهُدَىٰ وَالْعُرْوَةُ الْوُثْقَىٰ

WA BAABUL HUDAA WAL U'RWATUL WUTHQAA

the door to true guidance, the firmest handle,

وَالْحُجَّةُ عَلَىٰ اَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا

WAL HUJJATU A'LAA AHLID DUNYAA

and the argument against the inhabitants of this world.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنِّي بِكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ

WA ASH-HADU ANNEE BIKUM MU'MIN

I also bear witness that I have full faith in you,

وَبِمَنْزِلَتِكُمْ مُوقِنٌ

WA BIMANZILATIKUM MOOQIN

I have conviction in your standing,

وَلَكُمْ تَابِعٌ بِذَاتِ نَفْسِي

WA LAKUM TAABI'UN BIDHAATI NAFSEE

and I always follow you in myself,

وَشَرَائِعِ دِينِي وَخَوَاتِيمِ عَمَلِي

WA SHARAA'I'I DEENEE WA KHAWAATEEMI A'MALEE

in the laws of my religion, in my sealing deeds,

وَمُنْقَلَبِي فِي دُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي

WA MUNQALABEE FEE DUNYAAYA WA AAKHIRATEE

in my tour, and in my settlement in this worldly life and the Hereafter.
