Repelling The Evils of Jinn & Horrifying Authorities

Text and Translation

Imam al-Sadiq (a) is reported to have said: 'Ali ibn al-Husayn (a) used to say: after I say these words, I do not care even if all men and jinn support each other against me:

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَ بِاللّٰهِ وَ مِنَ اللّٰهِ وَ اِلَى اللّٰهِ وَ فِىْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ وَ عَلٰى مِلَّةِ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ

BISMILLAAHI WA BILLAAHI WA MINALLAAHI WA ILALLAAHI WA FEE SABEELILLAAHI WA A'LAA MILLATI RASOOLILLAAHI SALLALLAAHU A'LAYHI WA AALIH

In the name of Allah, and by Allah, and from Allah, and unto Allah, and in the way of Allah, and upon the creed of the Messenger of Allah — Allah's blessings be upon him and his Household —

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِلَيْكَ اَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِىْ وَ اِلَيْكَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِىْ وَ اِلَيْكَ اَلْجَاْتُ ظَهْرِىْ وَ اِلَيْكَ فَوَّضْتُ اَمْرِىْ

ALLAAHUMMA ILAYKA ASLAMTU NAFSEE WA ILAYKA WAJJAHTU WAJHEE WA ILAYKA ALJA-TU ZAHREE WA ILAYKA FAWWADTU AMREE

O Allah, unto You I have submitted my soul, unto You I have turned my face, unto You I have leaned my back, and unto You I have entrusted my affair,

اَللّٰهُمَّ احْفَظْنِىْ بِحِفْظِ الْاِيْمَانِ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَىَّ وَ مِنْ خَلْفِىْ وَ عَنْ يَمِيْنِىْ وَ عَنْ شِمَالِىْ وَ مِنْ فَوْقِىْ وَ مِنْ تَحْتِىْ وَ مَا قِبَلِىْ

ALLAAHUMMAH FAZNEE BI-HIFZIL EEMAANI MIM BAYNI YADAYYA WA MIN KHALFEE WA A'N YAMEENEE WA A'N SHIMAALEE WA MIN FAWQEE WA MIN TAHTEE WA MAA QIBALEE

O Allah, guard me with the safeguard of faith, from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, from above me and from beneath me, and from whatever confronts me,

وَ ادْفَعْ عَنِّىْ بِحَوْلِكَ وَ قُوَّتِكَ فَاِنَّهٗ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِكَ

WADFA' A'NNEE BI-HAWLIKA WA QUWWATIKA FA-INNAHU LAA HAWLA WA LAA QUWWATA ILLAA BIKA

and repel [harm] from me by Your might and Your strength, for there is no power and no strength except with You.

The following supplicatory prayer of the Ahl al-Bayt (i.e. the Holy Prophet's Household) may be said to fend off agonies, horrifying matters, and sways of ruling authorities:

يَا كَاۤئِنًا قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَّ يَا مُكَوِّنَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَّ يَا بَاقِيًا بَعْدَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ

YAA KAAA-INAN QABLA KULLI SHAY-IN WA YAA MUKAWWINA KULLI SHAY-IN WA YAA BAAQIYAN BA'DA KULLI SHAY-IN

O You Who existed before all things, O Fashioner of all things, O You Who remain after all things,

صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ افْعَلْ بِىْ كَذَا وَ كَذَا

SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMADIN WAF-A'L BEE KAZAA WA KAZAA

send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and do with me such-and-such [name your need].
