Namaz of Imam Sadiq (a) to ward off evil

Text and Translation

يَا مَنْ اِذَا اسْتَعَذْتُ بِهِ اَعَاذَنِىْ

YAA MAN IZAA ISTA'AZTU BEHI A'AAZANEE

O He Who unquestionably protects me whenever I pray Him for protection,

وَ اِذَا اسْتَجَرْتُ بِهِ عِنْدَ الشَّدَاۤئِدِ اَجَارَنِىْ

WA IZAA ISTAJARTU BEHI I'NDASH SHADAAA-IDI AJAARANEE

Who unquestionably shelters me whenever I pray for His shelter against hardships,

وَ اِذَا اسْتَغَثْتُ بِهِ عِنْدَ النَّوَاۤئِبِ اَغَاثَنِىْ

WA IZAA ISTAGHASTU BEHI I'NDAN NAWAAA-IBI AGHAASANEE

Who unquestionably aids me whenever I pray for His aid at calamities,

وَ اِذَاسْتَنْصَرْتُ بِهِ عَلٰى عَدُوِّىْ نَصَرَنِىْ وَ اَعَانَنِىْ

WA IZASTANSARTU BEHI A'LAA A'DUWWEE NASARANEE WA A'AANANEE

and Who unquestionably supports and assists me whenever I pray for His support against my enemy.

اِلَيْكَ الْمَفْزَعُ

ELAYKAL MAFZA'O

Towards You is the flight

وَ اَنْتَ الثِّقَةُ

WA ANTATH THIQATO

and You are the most trustful;

فَاقْمَعْ عَنِّىْ مَنْ اَرَادَنِىْ

FAQMA' A'NNEE MAN ARAADANEE

so, (please) subdue whoever intends evil to me

وَاغْلِبْ لِىْ مَنْ كَادَنِىْ

WAGHLIB LEE MAN KAADANEE

and overcome whoever plots against me.

يَا مَنْ قَالَ اِنْ يَّنْصُرْكُمُ اللّٰهُ فَلَا غَالِبَ لَكُمْ

YAA MAN QAALA IN YYANSURKUMU LAAHO FALAA GHAALEBA LAKUM

O He Who has said, “If Allah assists you, then there is none that can overcome you.”

يَا مَنْ نَجَّا نُوْحًا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِيْنَ

YAA MAN NAJJAA NOOHAN MINAL QAWMIZ ZAALIMEEN

O He Who has saved Noah from the oppressing people!

يَا مَنْ نَجَّا لُوْطًا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الْفَاسِقِيْنَ

YAA MAN NAJJAA LOOTAN MINAL QAWMIL FAASIQEEN

O He Who has saved Lot from the wicked people!

يَا مَنْ نَجَّا هُوْدًا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الْعَادِيْنَ

YAA MAN NAJJAA HOODAN MINAL QAWMIL A'AADEEN

O He Who has saved Hud from the transgressing people!

يَا مَنْ نَجَّا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِيْنَ

YAA MAN NAJJAA MUHAMMADAN SALLAL LAAHO A'LAYHI WA AALIHI MINAL QAWMIL KAAFIREEN

O He Who has saved Muhammad, Allah's blessings be upon him and his Household, from the disbelieving people!

نَجِّنِىْ مِنْ اَعْدَاۤئِىْ وَ اَعْدَاۤئِكَ

NAJJINEE MIN A'DAAA-EE WA A'DAAA-IKA

(Please) save me from my and Your enemies,

بِاَسْمَاۤئِكَ يَا رَحْمٰنُ يَا رَحِيْمُ

BI-ASMAAA-IKA YAA RAHMAANO YAA RAHEEM

in the name of Your Names; O All-beneficent, O All-merciful.

لَا سَبِيْلَ لَهُمْ عَلٰى مَنْ تَعَوَّذَ بِالْقُرْاٰنِ

LAA SABEELA LAHUM A'LAA MAN TA'AWWAZA BIL QUR-AAN

They have no way to harm whoever prays the protection of the Qur'an

وَاسْتَجَارَكَ بِالرَّحِيْمِ الرَّحْمٰنِ

WASTAJAARAKA BIR RAHEEMIR RAHMAAN

and prays the shelter of You in the name of Your Names: the All-merciful and the All-beneficent.

اَلرَّحْمٰنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوٰى

AR-RAHMAAN A'LAL A'RSHIL TAWAA

“The All-beneficent is firmly established on the throne (of authority).

اِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيْدٌ

INNA BATSHA RABBEKA LA-SHADEED

“Verily the Grip of thy Lord is terrible,

اِنَّهٗ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيْدُ

INNAHU HOWA YUBDEO WA YO-E'ED

It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life),

وَهُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الْوَدُوْدُ

WA HOWAL GHAFOORUL WADOODO

and He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness,

ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيْدُ

ZUL A'RSHIL MAJEEDO

Lord of the Throne of Glory,

فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيْدُ

FA'-A'ALUL LEMAA YOREED

and Doer (without let) of all that He intends.”

فَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُلْ حَسْبِىَ اللّٰهُ

FA-IN TAWALLAW FAQUL HASBEAAA LAAHO

“But if they turn away, then say: 'Allah suffices me:

لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ

LAA ELAAHA ILLAA HOWA

there is no god but He.'

عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ

A'LAYHE TAWAKKALTU

On Him is my trust,

وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيْمِ

WA HOWA RABBUL A'RSHIL A'ZEEM
