Namaz of Imam al-Askari (a.s.)

Text and Translation

Upon concluding the prayer, say the following supplication:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْ اَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS'ALUKA BI-ANNA LAKAL HAMD

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all praise being to You;

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

there is no god save You,

الْبَدِيْءُ قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

AL-BADEE'U QABLA KULLI SHAY'

[You are] the Premier before all things;

وَاَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ

WA ANTAL HAYYUL QAYYOOM

and You are the Ever-living, the Self-Subsistent;

وَلَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

WA LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

and there is no god save You,

الَّذِيْ لَا يُذِلُّكَ شَيْءٌ

ALLADHEE LAA YUDHILLUKA SHAY'

nothing can humiliate You;

وَاَنْتَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فِيْ شَاْنٍ

WA ANTA KULLA YAWMIN FEE SHA'N

and You, every moment, are in a state (of glory).

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

There is no god save You,

خَالِقُ مَا يُرٰى وَمَا لَا يُرٰى

KHAALIQU MAA YURAA WA MAA LAA YURAA

the Creator of what is seen and what cannot be seen,

الْعَالِمُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ بِغَيْرِ تَعْلِيْمٍ

AL-A'ALIMU BIKULLI SHAY'IN BIGHAYRI TA'LEEM

the Knower of all things without learning;

اَسْاَلُكَ بِآلَائِكَ وَنَعْمَائِكَ

AS'ALUKA BI-AALAA'IKA WA NA'MAA'IK

I beseech You in the name of Your bounties and gratuities

بِاَنَّكَ اللّٰهُ الرَّبُّ الْوَاحِدُ

BI-ANNAKAL LAAHUR RABBUL WAAHID

and in the name of Your being Allah, the One Lord,

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

there is no god save You,

الرَّحْمٰنُ الرَّحِيْمُ

AR-RAHMAANUR RAHEEM

the All-beneficent, the All-merciful;

وَاَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ

WA AS'ALUKA BI-ANNAKA ANTALLAAH

and I beseech You in the name of Your being Allah;

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

there is no god save You,

الْوِتْرُ الْفَرْدُ

AL-WITRUL FARD

the Unique, the Single,

الْاَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ

AL-AHADUS SAMAD

the One, and the eternally Besought of all,

الَّذِيْ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُوْلَدْ

ALLADHEE LAM YALID WA LAM YOOLAD

Who begets not, nor is he begotten,

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهٗ كُفُواً اَحَدٌ

WA LAM YAKUN LAHOO KUFUWAN AHAD

and none is like Him.

وَاَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اللّٰهُ

WA AS'ALUKA BI-ANNAKALLAAH

And I beseech You in the name of Your being Allah,

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

there is no god save You;

اللَّطِيْفُ الْخَبِيْرُ

AL-LATEEFUL KHABEER

the Knower of subtleties, the All-aware,

الْقَائِمُ عَلٰى كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ

AL-QAA'IMU A'LAA KULLI NAFSIN BIMAA KASABAT

Who watches every soul as to what it earns,

الرَّقِيْبُ الْحَفِيْظُ

AR-RAQEEBUL HAFEEZ

the Watcher, the Preserver.

وَاَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اللّٰهُ

WA AS'ALUKA BI-ANNAKALLAAH

And I beseech You in the name of Your being Allah,

الْاَوَّلُ قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

AL-AWWALU QABLA KULLI SHAY'

the First before all things,

وَالآخِرُ بَعْدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

WAL AAKHIRU BA'DA KULLI SHAY'

the Last after all things,

وَالْبَاطِنُ دُوْنَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

WAL BAATINU DOONA KULLI SHAY'

the Knower of all hidden things,

الضَّارُّ النَّافِعُ

AD-DAARRUN NAAFI'

the source of both harm [for those who deserve harm] and benefit,

الْحَكِيْمُ الْعَلِيْمُ

AL-HAKEEMUL A'LEEM

the All-wise, and All-knowing.

وَاَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ

WA AS'ALUKA BI-ANNAKA ANTALLAAH

And I beseech You in the name of Your being Allah,

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

there is no god save You,

الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ

AL-HAYYUL QAYYOOM

the Ever-living, the Self-Subsistent,

الْبَاعِثُ الْوَارِثُ

AL-BAA'ITHUL WAARITH

the Resurrector, the Inheritor,

الْحَنَّانُ الْمَنَّانُ

AL-HANNAANUL MANNAAN

the All-tender, the All-favorer,

بَدِيْعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ

BADEE'US SAMAAWAATI WAL ARD

the Fashioner of the heavens and the earth,

ذُوْ الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ

DHUL JALAALI WAL IKRAAM

the Lord of majesty and honor,

وَذُوْ الطَّوْلِ وَذُوْ الْعِزَّةِ وَذُوْ السُّلْطَانِ

WA DHUT TAWLI WA DHUL I'ZZATI WA DHUS SULTAAN

and the Lord of bounty, dignity, and absolute authority.

لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANT

There is no god save You;

اَحَطْتَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عِلْماً

AHATTA BIKULLI SHAY'IN I'LMAA

You encompass all things with knowledge,

وَاَحْصَيْتَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَداً

WA AHSAYTA KULLA SHAY'IN A'DADAA

and You record the number of all things;

صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMAD

(please) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.
