Namaz-e-Ghofaylah

Text and Translation

(i) Imam Ja’far bin Mohammed al-Sadiq (a.s.) said:

“Whoever prays salaat of ghofaylah and beseeches Allah for fulfillment of his legitimate desires, receives positive response from Him.”

(ii) Whosoever prays salaat of ghofaylah secures a home in the land of peace and honor, the paradise.

(iii) Salaat of ghofaylah is a two rak-at salaat. It is prayed between Maghrib and Isha. In fact it is prayed in place of the 4 rak-at naafelah of Maghrib salaat.

Recite verses 87 and 88 of surah Anbiya after surah Faatehah in the first rak-at:

وَ ذَا النُّوْنِ اِذْ ذَهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ اَنْ لَنْ نَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادٰى فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ اَنْ لَّاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ اِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَ نَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ وَ كَذٰلِكَ نُنْجِي الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ .

WA ZANNOONE IZ ZAHABA MOGHAAZEBAN FA ZANNA AN LAN NAQDERA A’LAYHE FANAADAA FIZ ZOLOMAATE AN LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA INNEE KUNTO MENAZ-ZAALEMEENA. FASTAJABNAA LAHU WA NAJJAYNAAHO MENAL GHAMME WA KAZAALEKA NUNJIL MOA-MENEENA.

(Remember) Yunus, when he went away in anger and imagined that We would never straiten him: then he cried out from the darkness: “There is no god but You. Glory bet to You. Verily I was of the unjust.” Then We responded to him and delivered him from grief, thus do We deliver the believers.

In the second rak-at recite verse 59 of surah An-a’am after surah Faatehah.

وَ عِنْدَهُ مَفَاتِحُ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا اِلَّا هُوَ وَ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْبَرِّ وَ الْبَحْرِ وَ مَا تَسْقُطُ مِنْ وَرَقَةٍ اِلَّا يَعْلَمُهَا وَ لَا حَبَّةٍ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ الْاَرْضِ وَ لَا رَطْبٍ وَ لَا يَابِسٍ اِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مُبِيْنٍ.

WA I’NDAHU MAFAATEHUL GHAYBE LAA YA’LAMOHAA ILLAA HOWA WA YA’LAMO MAA FIL BARRE WAL BAHRE WA MAA TASQOTO MINW WARAQATIN ILLAA YA’LAMOHAA WA LAA HABBATIN FI ZOLOMAATIL ARZE WA LAA RATBIWN WA LAA YAABESIN ILLAA FI KETAABIM MOBEEN.

And with Him are the keys of the unseen. None but He knows them; and He (alone) knows what is in the land and the sea. Not a leaf falls but He knows it, and there is not a grain in the darkest (recess) of the earth, nor anything wet or dry but is in a clear book.

Then recite the following Qunoot:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّي اَسْاَلُكَ بِمَفَاتِحِ الْغَيْبِ الَّتِيْ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا اِلَّا اَنْتَ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِهِ وَ اَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِيْ كَذَا وَ كَذَا.....

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS-ALOKA BEMAFAATEHIL GHAYBIL LATEE LAA YA’LAMOHAA ILLAA ANTA AN TOSALLE A’LAA MOHAMMDINW WA AALE MOHAMMAD. WA AN TAFA’LA BEE... (mention your legitimate desires)

O Allah, verily I beseech You in the name of the keys of the unseen about which no one knows anything save You. Send blessings on Mohammed and on his children and fulfill my desires. (mention your needs)

Then say:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَنْتَ وَلِيُّ نِعْمَتِيْ وَ الْقَادِرُ عَلٰى طَلِبَتِيْ تَعْلَمُ حَاجَتِيْ فَاَسْاَلُكَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِهِ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ لَمَّا قَضَيْتَهَا لِيْ.

ALLAAHUMMA ANTA WALIYYO NE’MATEE WAL QAADERO A’LAA TALEBATEE TA’LAMO HAAJATEE FA-ASALOKA BEHAQQE MOHAMMDINW WA AALEHI A’LAYHE WA A’LAYHEMUS SALAAMO LAMMAA QAZAYTAHAA LEE. (mention your legitimate desires).

O Allah, You are the sole master of every bounty given to me and You have total control over that which I ask for and You are fully aware of my desire, therefore I beseech You for the sake and in the name of Mohammed and his children, peace be on them all, when You have fulfilled it for me. (mention your legitimate desires)
