Imam al-'Askari's supplication

Text and Translation

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّي اَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ الْبَدِيْءُ قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَ اَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ وَ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ الَّذِيْ لَا يُذِلُّكَ شَيْءٌ وَ اَنْتَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فِي شَأْنٍ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ خَالِقُ مَا يُرٰى وَ مَا لَا يُرَى الْعَالِمُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ بِغَيْرِ تَعْلِيْمٍ اَسْاَلُكَ بِاٰلَاۤئِكَ وَ نَعْمَاۤئِكَ بِاَنَّكَ اللهُ الرَّبُّ الْوَاحِدُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ الرَّحْمٰنُ الرَّحِيْمُ وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اَنْتَ اللهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ الْوِتْرُ الْفَرْدُ الْاَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِيْ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَ لَمْ يُوْلَدْ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا اَحَدٌ، وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اللهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ اللَّطِيْفُ الْخَبِيْرُ الْقَاۤئِمُ عَلٰى كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ اَلرَّقِيْبُ الْحَفِيْظُ وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اللهُ الْاَوَّلُ قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَ الْاٰخِرُ بَعْدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَ الْبَاطِنُ دُوْنَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ الضَّآرُّ النَّافِعُ الْحَكِيْمُ الْعَلِيْمُ وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِاَنَّكَ اَنْتَ اللهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ الْبَاعِثُ الْوَارِثُ الْحَنَّانُ الْمَنَّانُ بَدِيْعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَ الْاِكْرَامِ وَ ذُو الطَّوْلِ وَ ذُو الْعِزَّةِ وَ ذُو السُّلْطَانِ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ اَحَطْتَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا وَ اَحْصَيْتَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَدًا صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ۔

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS-ALUKA BI-ANNA LAKAL HAMD, LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTAL BADEE-U' QABLA KULLI SHAY, WA ANTAL HAYYUL QAYYOOM, WA LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTAL LAZEE LAA YUZILLUKA SHAY, WA ANTA KULLA YAWMIN FEE SHA'N, LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTA KHAALIQU MAA YURAA WA MAA LAA YURAAL A'ALIMU BI-KULLI SHAY-IM BI-GHAYRI TA'LEEM, AS-ALUKA BI-AALAAA-IKA WA NA'MAAA-IKA BI-ANNAKAL LAAHU RABBUL WAAHID, LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTAR RAHMAANUR RAHEEM, WA AS-ALUKA BI-ANNAKA ANTAL LAAHU LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTAL WITRUL FARDUL AHADUS SAMADUL LAZEE LAM YALID WA LAM YOOLAD WA LAM YAKUL LAHU KUFUWAN AHAD, WA AS-ALUKA BI-ANNAKAL LAAHU LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTAL LATEEFUL KHABEERUL QAAA-IMU A'LAA KULLI NAFSIM BIMAA KASABAT, AR RAQEEBUL HAFEEZ, WA AS-ALUKA BI-ANNAKAL LAAHUL AWWALU QABLA KULLI SHAY, WAL AAKHIRU BA'DA KULLI SHAY, WAL BAATINU DOONA KULLI SHAY, AD-DAAA-RRUN NAAFI-U'L HAKEEMUL A'LEEM, WA AS-ALUKA BI-ANNAKA ANTAL LAAHU LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTAL HAYYUL QAYYOOMUL BAA-I'THUL WAARISUL HANNAANUL MANNAAN, BADEE-U'S SAMAAWAATI WAL ARD, ZUL JALAALI WAL IKRAAM, WA ZUT TAWL, WA ZUL I'ZZAH, WA ZUS SULTAAN, LAAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANT, AHATTA BI-KULLI SHAY-IN I'LMAA, WA AHSAYTA KULLA SHAY-IN A'DADAA, SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMAD.

O Allah, I beseech You by the fact that all praise belongs to You; there is no god but You, the Originator before all things, and You are the Ever-living, the Self-subsisting; there is no god but You, whom nothing can humble, and You are, every day, upon some task; there is no god but You, Creator of what is seen and what is unseen, Knower of everything without being taught; I beseech You by Your bounties and favors, by the fact that You are Allah, the One Lord — there is no god but You, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful; and I beseech You by the fact that You are Allah — there is no god but You, the One, the Single, the Eternally Besought, Who begets not nor is begotten, and none is His equal; and I beseech You by the fact that You are Allah — there is no god but You, the Subtle, the Aware, Who watches every soul for what it has earned, the Watcher, the Preserver; and I beseech You by the fact that You are Allah, the First before all things, the Last after all things, the Hidden beneath all things, the Harmer, the Benefactor, the Wise, the Knowing; and I beseech You by the fact that You are Allah — there is no god but You, the Ever-living, the Self-subsisting, the Resurrector, the Inheritor, the Tender, the Bounteous, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of majesty and honor, Possessor of bounty, Possessor of might, and Possessor of dominion; there is no god but You; You encompass everything in knowledge, and You have numbered everything precisely; bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.
