Text and Translation

This evil-repelling prayer is ascribed to Imam Ali ibn Muhammad al-Naqi al-Hadi (a.s.):

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM

In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful.

يَا عَزِيْزَ الْعِزِّ فِىْ عِزِّهٖ

YAA A’ZEEZAL I’ZZE FEE I’ZZEHI

O Almighty of all might in His absolute power!

مَا اَعَزَّ عَزِيْزَ الْعِزِّ فِىْ عِزِّهٖ

MAA A-A’ZZA A’ZEEZAL I’ZZE FEE I’ZZEHI

How mighty is the Almighty of all might in His absolute power!

يَا عَزِيْزُ اَعِزَّنِىْ بِعِزِّكَ وَ اَيِّدْنِىْ بِنَصْرِكَ

YAA A’ZEEZO A-I’ZZANEE BE-I’ZZEKA WA AYYIDNEE BE-NASREKA

O Almighty! Honor me with Your might, support me with Your victory,

وَ ادْفَعْ عَنِّىْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِيْنِ

WAD FA’ A’NNEE HAMAZAATISH SHAYAATEENE

repel from me the incitements of the devils,

وَ ادْفَعْ عَنِّىْ بِدَفْعِكَ وَ امْنَعْ عَنِّىْ بِصُنْعِكَ

WAD FA’ A’NNEE BE-DAF-E’KA WAM NA’ A’NNEE BE-SUN-E’KA

defend me with Your defense, and shield me through Your divine craftsmanship.

وَ اجْعَلْنِىْ مِنْ خِيَارِ خَلْقِكَ

WAJ A’LNEE MIN KHEYAARE KHALQEKA

And count me among the best of Your creation,

يَا وَاحِدُ يَا اَحَدُ يَا فَرْدُ يَا صَمَدُ.

YAA WAAHEDO YAA AHADO YAA FARDO YAA SAMADO.

O One! O Unique! O Solitary! O Eternal Refuge!
