Bidding Farewell (Wida) to Imam Husayn (a.s.) — Karbala

Text and Translation

Twentieth: Farewell ziyarat

Sayyid Ibn Tawus says that it is recommended for those who intend to leave the holy shrine of Imam al-Husayn (`a) after they have accomplished visiting his tomb to throw themselves on the tomb, kiss it, and say the following words:

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ

alssalamu `alayka ya mawlaya

Peace be upon you, O my master.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya hujjata allahi

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s Argument (against His creatures).

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا صِفْوَةَ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya safwata allahi

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s choice.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خَالِصَةَ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya khalisata allahi

Peace be upon you, O Allah’s select.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا قَتِيلَ ٱلظَّمَاءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya qatila alzzama'i

Peace be upon you, O victim of thirst.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا غَرِيبَ ٱلْغُرَبَاءِ

alssalamu `alayka ya ghariba alghuraba'i

Peace be upon you, O strangest of all strangers.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ سَلاَمَ مُوَدِّع

alssalamu `alayka salama muwaddi`in

Peace be upon you; this is the greeting of one who has to bid farewell to you

لاََ سَئِمٍ وَلاَ قَالٍ

la sa'imin wa la qalin

although he is neither bored with you nor tired of you.

فَإِنْ امْضِ فَلاَ عَنْ مَلاَلَةٍ

fa'in amdi fala `an malalatin

If I leave (you), this is not because of weariness;

وَإِنْ اقِمْ فَلاَ عَنْ سُوءِ ظَنٍّ بِمَا وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّابِرِينَ

wa in uqim fala `an su'i zannin bima wa`ada allahu alssabirina

and if I reside, this is not because of mistrusting the promise that Allah has made for the serene ones.

لاََ جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ آخِرَ ٱلْعَهْدِ مِنِّي لِزِيَارَتِكَ

la ja`alahu allahu akhira al`ahdi minni liziyaratika

May Allah not decide this time of my visit to be the last.

وَرَزَقَنِيَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَوْدَ إِلَىٰ مَشْهَدِكَ

wa razaqaniya allahu al`awda ila mashhadika

May He endue me with more chances to return to your shrine,

وَٱلْمَقَامَ بِفَنَائِكَ

walmaqama bifina'ika

to reside in your courtyard,

وَٱلْقِيَامَ فِي حَرَمِكَ

walqiyama fi haramika

and to stay in your sanctuary.

وَإِيَّاهُ اسْالُ انْ يُسْعِدَنِي بِكُمْ

wa iyyahu as'alu an yus`idani bikum

To Him do I pray to make me delightful with you

وَيَجْعَلَنِي مَعَكُمْ فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

wa yaj`alani ma`akum fi alddunya wal-akhirati

and to include me with you in this world and in the Hereafter.

Other Farewell Ziarats from Book Nibrās al-Zāʼir fī Ziyārat al-Ḥāʼir

Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If you want to bid him farewell, say:

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ،

As-salāmu ʿalayka wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah, and His blessings,

أَسْتَوْدِعُكَ اللّهَ وَأَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلامُ،

Astawdiʿuka Allāh wa aqraʾu ʿalayka as-salām,

I entrust you to Allah and convey my greetings to you,

آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَبِالرَّسُولِ وَبِمَا جِئْتَ بِهِ وَدَلَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ،

Āmannā bi-Allāh wa bi-rasūl wa bimā jiʾta bihi wa dalalta ʿalayh,

We believe in Allah and the Messenger and in what you brought and guided to,

وَاتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُولَ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ،

Wa-ttabaʿnā ar-rasūl fa-uktubnā maʿa ash-shāhidīn,

And we followed the Messenger, so write us among the witnesses,

اَللّهُمَّ لاَ تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنَّا وَمِنْهُ،

Allāhumma lā tajʿalhu ākhir al-ʿahd minnā wa minhu,

O Allah, do not make this the last of our visit and his visit,

اَللّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَنْفَعَنَا بِحُبِّهِ،

Allāhumma innā nasʾaluka an tanfaʿanā bi-ḥubbihi,

O Allah, we ask You to benefit us with his love,

اَللّهُمَّ ابْعَثْهُ مَقَاماً مَحْمُوداً تَنْصُرُ بِهِ دِينَكَ،

Allāhumma ibʿathhu maqāman maḥmūdan tanṣuru bihi dīnak,

O Allah, raise him to a praised station by which You support Your religion,

وَتَقْتُلُ بِهِ عَدُوَّكَ،

Wa taqtulu bihi ʿaduwwaka,

And by which You kill Your enemy,

وَتُبِيدُ بِهِ مَنْ نَصَبَ حَرْباً لِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

Wa tubīdu bihi man naṣaba ḥarban li-Āl Muḥammad,

And annihilate with it those who waged war against the family of Muhammad,

فَإِنَّكَ وَعَدْتَهُ ذلِكَ،

Fa-innaka waʿadtahu dhālika,

For You have promised him that,

وَأَنْتَ لاَ تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ،

Wa-anta lā tukhlifu al-mīʿād,

And You do not break Your promise,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ،

As-salāmu ʿalayka wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah, and His blessings,

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكُمْ شُهَدَاءٌ نُجَبَاءٌ،

Ashhadu annakum shuhadāʾun nujabāʾ,

I bear witness that you are noble martyrs,

جَاهَدْتُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ،

Jāhadttum fī sabīl Allāh,

You struggled in the way of Allah,

وَقُتِلْتُمْ عَلَى مِنْهَاجِ رَسُولِ اللّهِ،

Waqutilttum ʿalā minhāj Rasūl Allāh,

And you were killed on the path of the Messenger of Allah,

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَابْنِ رَسُولِهِ،

Ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih wa ibn Rasūlihi,

May Allah's blessings be upon him and his family and the son of his Messenger,

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ،

Ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih,

May Allah's blessings be upon him and his family,

أَنْتُمُ السَّابِقُونَ وَالْمُهَاجِرُونَ وَالْأَنْصَارُ،

Antum as-sābiqūn wal-muhājirūn wal-anṣār,

You are the pioneers, the emigrants, and the supporters,

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكُمْ أَنْصَارُ اللّهِ،

Ashhadu annakum anṣāru Allāh,

I bear witness that you are the helpers of Allah,

وَأَنْصَارُ رَسُولِهِ،

Wa anṣāru Rasūlihi,

And the helpers of His Messenger,

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ،

Ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih,

May Allah's blessings be upon him and his family,

فَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ الَّذِي صَدَقَكُمْ وَعْدَهُ،

Fa-al-ḥamdu li-Allāh alladhī ṣadaqakum waʿdahu,

So all praise be to Allah who fulfilled His promise to you,

وَأَرَاكُمْ مَا تُحِبُّونَ،

Wa arākum mā tuḥibbūn,

And showed you what you love,

وَصَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

Wa ṣallā Allāhu ʿalā Muḥammad wa āl Muḥammad,

And may Allah's blessings be upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ،

Wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

And the mercy of Allah and His blessings,

اَللّهُمَّ لاَ تَشْغَلْنِي فِي الدُّنْيَا عَنْ ذِكْرِ نِعْمَتِكَ،

Allāhumma lā tashghalnī fī ad-dunyā ʿan dhikr niʿmatika,

O Allah, do not preoccupy me in this world from remembering Your bounty,

لاَ بِإِكْثَارٍ تُلْهِينِي عَجَائِبُ بَهْجَتِهَا،

Lā bi-ikthār tunhilnī ʿajāʾib bahjatihā,

Not by abundance that its wonders distract me,

وَتَفْتِنِّي زَهَرَاتُ زِينَتِهَا،

Wa taftinnī zaharāt zīnatihā,

And its flowers of adornment tempt me,

وَلاَ بِاِقْلاَلٍ يَضُرُّ بِعَمَلِي كَدُّهُ،

Wa lā bi-iqlāl yaḍurru bi-ʿamalī kadduhu,

Nor by scarcity that its hardship harms my deeds,

وَيَمْلَأُ صَدْرِي هَمُّهُ،

Wa yamlaʾu ṣadrī hammuhu,

And fills my chest with its worries,

أَعْطِنِي مِنْ ذلِكَ غِنىً عَنْ شِرَارِ خَلْقِكَ،

Aʿṭinī min dhālika ghinā ʿan shirār khalqik,

Grant me from that wealth to suffice me from the wicked of Your creation,

وَبَلاَغاً أَنَالُ بِهِ رِضَاكَ،

Wa balāghan anālu bihi riḍāk,

And a reach by which I attain Your pleasure,

يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ،

Yā arḥama ar-rāḥimīn,

O Most Merciful of the merciful,

وَصَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللّهِ،

Wa ṣallā Allāhu ʿalā Rasūlihi Muḥammad bin ʿAbd Allāh,

And may Allah's blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad bin ʿAbd Allāh,

وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الْأخْيَارِ،

Wa ʿalā ahl baytihi aṭ-ṭayyibīn al-akhyār,

And upon his good and righteous family,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ.

Wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

And the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

Shaykh al-Mufid, said: The farewell is that you come to the grave and stand over it as you stood at the beginning of the visit, and face it and say:

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِيَّ اللّهِ،

As-salāmu ʿalayka yā waliyy Allāh,

Peace be upon you, O friend of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللّهِ،

As-salāmu ʿalayka yā Abā ʿAbd Allāh,

Peace be upon you, O Abā ʿAbd Allāh,

أَنْتَ لِي جُنَّةٌ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ،

Anta lī junnatun min al-ʿadhāb,

You are for me a shield from punishment,

وَهذَا أَوَانُ انْصِرَافِي عَنْكَ،

Wa hādhā awān insirāfī ʿanka,

And this is the time of my departure from you,

غَيْرَ رَاغِبٍ عَنْكَ،

Ghayra rāghib ʿanka,

Not desiring anyone else,

وَلاَ مُسْتَبْدِلٍ بِكَ سِوَاكَ،

Wa lā mustabdil bika siwāk,

Nor exchanging you for another,

وَلاَ مُؤْثِرٍ عَلَيْكَ غَيْرَكَ،

Wa lā muʾthir ʿalayk ghayrak,

Nor preferring anyone over you,

وَلاَ زَاهِدٍ فِي قُرْبِكَ،

Wa lā zāhid fī qurbik,

Nor being uninterested in being close to you,

وَجُدْتُ بِنَفْسِي لِلْحَدَثَانِ،

Wa judtu binafsī lil-ḥadathān,

And I have given myself for the events,

وَتَرَكْتُ الْأَهْلَ وَالْأَوْطَانَ،

Wa taraktu al-ahl wa al-awṭān,

And left my family and homeland,

فَكُنْ لِي يَوْمَ حَاجَتِي،

Fakunn lī yawma ḥājatī,

So be for me on the day of my need,

وَفَقْرِي وَفَاقَتِي،

Wa faqri wa faqātī,

And my poverty and destitution,

وَيَوْمَ لاَ يُغْنِي عَنِّي وَالِدِي وَوَلَدِي،

Wa yawma lā yughni ʿannī wālidī wa waladī,

And on the day when neither my father nor my son will avail me,

وَلاَ حَمِيمِي وَلاَ قَرِيبِي،

Wa lā ḥamīmī wa lā qarībī,

Nor my close friend nor my relative,

أَسْأَلُ اللّهَ الَّذِي قَدَّرَ وَخَلَقَ،

Asʾalu Allāh alladhī qaddara wa khalaq,

I ask Allah, who has decreed and created,

أَنْ يُنَفِّسَ بِكَ كَرْبِي،

An yunaffisa bika karbī,

To relieve my distress through you,

وَأَسْأَلُ اللّهَ الَّذِي قَدَّرَ عَلَيَّ فِرَاقَ مَكَانِكَ،

Wa asʾalu Allāh alladhī qaddara ʿalayya firāqa makānika,

And I ask Allah, who has decreed upon me the separation from your place,

أَنْ لاَ يَجْعَلَهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنِّي وَمِنْ رَجْعَتِي،

An lā yajʿalahu ākhir al-ʿahd minnī wa min rajʿatī,

To not make it the last of my visit and my return,

وَأَسْأَلُ اللّهَ الَّذِي أَبْكَى عَلَيْكَ عَيْنِي،

Wa asʾalu Allāh alladhī abkā ʿalayka ʿaynī,

And I ask Allah, who made my eyes cry over you,

أَنْ يَجْعَلَهُ سَنَداً لِي،

An yajʿalahu sanadan lī,

To make it a support for me,

وَأَسْأَلُ اللّهَ الَّذِي نَقَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَحْلِي وَأَهْلِي،

Wa asʾalu Allāh alladhī naqalnī ilayka min raḥlī wa ahlī,

And I ask Allah, who brought me to you from my journey and my family,

أَنْ يَجْعَلَهُ ذُخْراً لِي،

An yajʿalahu dhukhran lī,

To make it a treasure for me,

وَأَسْأَلُ اللّهَ الَّذِي أَرَانِي مَكَانَكَ،

Wa asʾalu Allāh alladhī arānī makānak,

And I ask Allah, who showed me your place,

وَهَدَانِي لِلتَّسْلِيمِ عَلَيْكَ،

Wa hadānī li-taslīm ʿalayk,

And guided me to greet you,

وَلِزِيَارَتِي إِيَّاكَ،

Wa li-ziyāratī īyyāk,

And to visit you,

أَنْ يُورِدَنِي حَوْضَكُمْ،

An yūridnī ḥawḍakum,

To bring me to your pool,

وَيَرْزُقَنِي مُرَافَقَتَكُمْ فِي الْجِنَانِ،

Wa yarzuqanī murāfaqatakum fī al-jinān,

And grant me your companionship in the gardens,

مَعَ آبَائِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ،

Maʿa ābāʾika aṣ-ṣāliḥīn,

With your righteous fathers,

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَجْمَعِينَ،

Ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhim ajmaʿīn,

May Allah's blessings be upon them all,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا صَفْوَةَ اللّهِ،

As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ṣafwat Allāh,

Peace be upon you, O chosen one of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللّهِ

As-salāmu ʿalā Muḥammad bin ʿAbd Allāh,

Peace be upon Muhammad bin ʿAbd Allah,

حَبِيبِ اللّهِ وَصَفْوَتِهِ،

Ḥabīb Allāh wa ṣafwatih,

The beloved of Allah and His chosen one,

وَأَمِينِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ،

Wa amīnih wa rasūlih,

His trustworthy one and His messenger,

وَسَيِّدِ النَّبِيّينَ،

Wa sayyid an-nabiyyīn,

And the master of the prophets,

السَّلامُ عَلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ،

As-salāmu ʿalā Amīr al-Muʾminīn,

Peace be upon the Commander of the Faithful,

وَصِيِّ رَسُولِ اللّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ،

Waṣiyy Rasūl Allāh Rabb al-ʿālamīn,

The successor of the Messenger of Allah, the Lord of the worlds,

وَقَائِدِ الْغُرِّ الْمُحَجَّلِينَ،

Wa qāʾid al-ghurr al-muḥajjalīn,

And the leader of the bright-faced ones,

السَّلامُ عَلَى الْأَئِمَّةِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيّينَ،

As-salāmu ʿalā al-aʾimma ar-rāshidīn al-mahdīyīn,

Peace be upon the rightly guided Imams,

السَّلامُ عَلَى مَنْ فِي الْحَيْرِ مِنْكُمْ،

As-salāmu ʿalā man fī al-ḥayr minkum,

Peace be upon those among you in the shrine,

السَّلامُ عَلَى مَلاَئِكَةِ اللّهِ الْبَاقِينَ الْمُقِيمِينَ،

As-salāmu ʿalā malāʾikat Allāh al-bāqīn al-muqīmīn,

Peace be upon the remaining and residing angels of Allah,

الْمُسَبِّحِينَ الَّذِينَ هُمْ بِأَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ قَائِمُونَ،

Al-musabbiḥīn alladhīna hum bi-amri rabbihim qāʾimūn,

Those who glorify Him and stand by the command of their Lord,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ،

As-salāmu ʿalaynā wa ʿalā ʿibād Allāh aṣ-ṣāliḥīn,

Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah,

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.

Wa al-ḥamdu li-Allāh Rabbi al-ʿālamīn.

And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

وتقول:

Wa taqūl:

And you say:

سَلامُ اللّهِ وَسَلامُ مَلائِكَتِهِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ،

Salām Allāh wa salām malāʾikatihi al-muqarrabīn,

Peace of Allah and the peace of His close angels,

وَأَنبِيائِهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ،

Wa anbiyāʾihi al-mursalīn,

And His sent prophets,

وَعِبادِهِ الصَّالِحِينَ،

Wa ʿibādihi aṣ-ṣāliḥīn,

And His righteous servants,

يَابْنَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ،

Yā ibn Rasūl Allāh,

O son of the Messenger of Allah,

عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى رُوحِكَ وَبَدَنِكَ،

ʿAlayka wa ʿalā rūḥik wa badanik,

Upon you and upon your soul and body,

وَعَلَى ذُرِّيَّتِكَ،

Wa ʿalā dhurriyyatik,

And upon your descendants,

وَمَنْ حَضَرَكَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِكَ،

Wa man ḥaḍaraka min awliyāʾik,

And those who are present with you from your friends,

أَسْتَوْدِعُكَ اللّهَ وَأَسْتَرْعِيكَ،

Astawdiʿuka Allāh wa astarʿīk,

I entrust you to Allah and I seek His protection for you,

وَأَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلامُ،

Wa aqraʾu ʿalayka as-salām,

And I convey my greetings to you,

آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ،

Āmannā bi-Allāh,

We believed in Allah,

وَبِرَسُولِ اللّهِ،

Wa bi-rasūl Allāh,

And in the Messenger of Allah,

وَبِمَا جَاءَ بِهِ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللّهِ،

Wa bimā jāʾa bihi min ʿindi Allāh,

And in what he brought from Allah,

اَللّهُمَّ اكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ.

Allāhumma uktubnā maʿa ash-shāhidīn.

O Allah, write us among the witnesses.

وتقول:

Wa taqūl:

And you say:

اَللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammad wa āl Muḥammad,

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِي ابْنَ رَسُولِكَ،

Wa lā tajʿalahu ākhir al-ʿahd min ziyāratī ibn Rasūlik,

And do not make this the last of my visit to the son of Your Messenger,

وَارْزُقْنِي زِيَارَتَهُ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي،

Wa urzuqnī ziyāratah abadan mā abqaytanī,

And grant me his visit forever as long as You keep me,

اَللّهُمَّ وَانْفَعْنِي بِحُبِّهِ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ،

Allāhumma wanfaʿnī bi-ḥubbihi yā Rabba al-ʿālamīn,

O Allah, benefit me with his love, O Lord of the worlds,

اَللّهُمَّ ابْعَثْهُ مَقَاماً مَحْمُوداً،

Allāhumma ibʿathhu maqāman maḥmūdan,

O Allah, raise him to a praised station,

إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ،

Innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr,

Indeed, You are capable of all things,

اَللّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بَعْدَ الصَّلاَةِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ،

Allāhumma innī asʾaluk baʿda aṣ-ṣalāt wa at-taslīm,

O Allah, I ask You after prayer and greeting,

أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

An tuṣallī ʿalā Muḥammad wa āl Muḥammad,

To send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,

وَأَنْ لاَ تَجْعَلَهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِي إِيَّاهُ،

Wa an lā tajʿalahu ākhir al-ʿahd min ziyāratī īyyāh,

And not to make it the last of my visit to him,

فَإِنْ جَعَلْتَهُ يَا رَبِّ فَاحْشُرْنِي مَعَهُ،

Fa-in jaʿaltahu yā Rabb faḥshurnī maʿah,

If You make it so, O Lord, then gather me with him,

وَمَعَ آبَائِهِ وَأَوْلِيَائِهِ،

Wa maʿa ābāʾih wa awliyāʾih,

And with his fathers and friends,

وَإِنْ أَبْقَيْتَنِي يَا رَبِّ،

Wa in abqaytanī yā Rabb,

And if You keep me, O Lord,

فَارْزُقْنِي الْعَوْدَ إِلَيْهِ،

Fa urzuqnī al-ʿawd ilayh,

Then grant me the return to him,

ثُمَّ الْعَوْدَ إِلَيْهِ بَعْدَ الْعَوْدِ،

Thumma al-ʿawd ilayh baʿd al-ʿawd,

And then return to him after return,

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ،

Bi-raḥmatika yā arḥama ar-rāḥimīn,

By Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful,

اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِي لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي أَوْلِيَائِكَ،

Allāhumma ijʿal lī lisān ṣidq fī awliyāʾik,

O Allah, make for me a truthful tongue among Your friends,

وَحَبِّبْ إِلَيَّ مَشَاهِدَهُمْ،

Wa ḥabbib ilayya mashāhidahum,

And make their places beloved to me,

اَللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammad wa āl Muḥammad,

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,

وَلاَ تَشْغَلْنِي عَنْ ذِكْرِكَ،

Wa lā tashghalnī ʿan dhikrik,

And do not preoccupy me from Your remembrance,

بِإِكْثَارٍ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا،

Bi-ikthār ʿalayya min ad-dunyā,

By increasing upon me from the world,

تُلْهِينِي عَجَائِبُ بَهْجَتِهَا،

Tulhīnī ʿajāʾib bahjatihā,

Its wonders distract me,

وَتَفْتِنِّي زَهَرَاتُ زِينَتِهَا،

Wa taftinnī zaharāt zīnatihā,

And its flowers of adornment tempt me,

وَلاَ بِإِقْلاَلٍ يَضُرُّ بِعَمَلِي كَدُّهُ،

Wa lā bi-iqlāl yaḍurru bi-ʿamalī kadduhu,

Nor by scarcity that its hardship harms my deeds,

وَيَمْلَأُ صَدْرِي هَمُّهُ،

Wa yamlaʾu ṣadrī hammuhu,

And fills my chest with its worries,

أَعْطِنِي مِنْ ذلِكَ غِنىً عَنْ أَشْرَارِ خَلْقِكَ،

Aʿṭinī min dhālika ghinan ʿan ashrār khalqik,

Grant me from that wealth to suffice me from the wicked of Your creation,

وَبَلاَغاً أَنَالُ بِهِ رِضَاكَ،

Wa balāghan anālu bihi riḍāk,

And a reach by which I attain Your pleasure,

يَا رَحْمَنُ.

Yā Raḥmān,

O Most Merciful.

اَلسَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا مَلاَئِكَةَ اللّهِ،

As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā malāʾikat Allāh,

Peace be upon you, O angels of Allah,

وَزُوَّارَ قَبْرِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللّهِ.

Wa zuwwār qabr Abī ʿAbd Allāh,

And visitors of the grave of Abā ʿAbd Allāh.

Then place your right cheek on the grave once, And the left once, And insist in supplication and request, When you leave, do not turn your face away from the grave until you exit.
