First: it is reported that when a man complained to Imam al-Sadiq (a) about loneliness, the Imam (a) said: may I lead you to a prayer such that, if you say it, you will not feel lonely, neither at night nor in daytime? It is this prayer:
BISMILLAAHI WA BILLAAHI WA TAWAKKALTU A'LALLAAH, INNAHU MAY YATAWAKKAL A'LALLAAHI FAHUWA HASBUH, INNALLAAHA BAALIGHU AMRIH, QAD JA-A'LALLAAHU LI-KULLI SHAY-IN QADRAA, ALLAAHUMMAJ-A'LNEE FEE KANAFIKA WA FEE JIWAARIKA WAJ-A'LNEE FEE AMAANIKA WA FEE MAN-I'K
In the name of Allah, and by Allah, and I have placed my trust in Allah; verily whoever places his trust in Allah, He suffices him — verily Allah brings about His purpose; Allah has appointed for everything its measure. O Allah, place me under Your protection and in Your shelter, and place me in Your safekeeping and Your defense.
It is reported that a man used to say this supplicatory prayer for thirty years incessantly, but when he neglected it one night, he was stung by a scorpion that same night.
Second: it is reported that whoever spends a night alone in a house or a room should recite Ayat al-Kursi and say this supplicatory prayer:
ALLAAHUMMA AANIS WAHSHATEE WA AAMIN RAW-A'TEE WA A'INNEE A'LAA WAHDATEE
O Allah, ease my sense of isolation, secure me from my fright, and aid me in my solitude.
Third: the Holy Prophet (s) is reported to have used these words as an evil-repelling prayer ('udhah) for Imam al-Hasan and Imam al-Husayn (a):
U'EEZU KUMAA BI-KALIMAATILLAAHIT TAAA-MMATI WA ASMAAA-IHIL HUSNAA KULLIHAA A'AAAMMATAM MIN SHARRIS SAAA-MMATI WAL HAAA-MMATI WA MIN SHARRI KULLI A'YNIL LAAA-MMATI WA MIN SHARRI HAASIDIN IZAA HASAD
I seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allah and in all of His most beautiful names, altogether, from the evil of every venomous creature and every noxious creature, and from the evil of every touching eye, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.
Commenting, the Holy Prophet (s) added, "Thus did (Prophet) Abraham use to repel evil from Ishmael and Isaac."
