Pre-Prayer Supplications

Text and Translation

When you intend to perform the prayer, you may say the following:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّى اُقَدِّمُ اِلَيْكَ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاۤلِهٖ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ حَاجَتِىْ وَاَتَوَجَّهُ بِهٖ اِلَيْكَ فَاجْعَلْنِىْ بِهٖ وَجِيْهًا عِنْدَكَ فِى الدُّنْيَا وَالْاۤخِرَةِ وَمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ وَاجْعَلْ صَلَاتِىْ بِهٖ مَقْبُوْلَةً وَذَنْبِىْ بِهٖ مَغْفُوْرًا وَدُعَاۤئِىْ بِهٖ مُسْتَجَابًا اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ.

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE OQADDEMO ELAYKA MOHAMMADAN SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI BAYNA YADAY HAAJATEE WA ATAWAJJAHO BEHI ELAYKA FAJ-A’LNEE BEHI WAJEEHAN I’NDAKA FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE WA MENAL MOQARRABEENA WAJ-A’L SALAATEE BEHI MAQBOOLATAN WA ZANBEE BEHI MAGHFOORAN WA DO-A’AA-EE BEHI MUSTAJAABAN INNAKA ANTAL GHAFOORUR RAHEEMO.

O Allah, I present Muhammad—may Allah bless him and his family—before my need, and I turn to You through him. So, by him, make me distinguished in Your sight in this world and the Hereafter, and among those drawn near to You. By him, make my prayer accepted, my sin forgiven, and my supplication answered. Indeed, You are the All-Forgiving, the All-Merciful.

You may then utter the call to prayer (i.e. azan) and say the prefatory part of prayer (i.e. iqamah). You may separate the two with a prostration or a sitting position, saying the following:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ قَلْبِى بَآرًّا وَّعَيْشِىْ قَآرًّا وَّرِزْقِىْ دَآرًّا وَّاجْعَلْ لِىْ عِنْدَ قَبْرِ رَسُوْلِكَ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاۤلِهٖ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَّقَرَارًا.

ALLAAHUMMAJ-A’L QALBEE BAARRANW WA A’YSHEE QAARRANW WA RIZQEE DAARRANW WAJ-A’L LEE I’NDA QABRE RASOOLEKA SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI MUSTAQARRANW WA QARAARAN.

O Allah, make my heart righteous, my life stable, and my sustenance continuous; and grant me a place of rest and a residence near the grave of Your Messenger—may Allah bless him and his family.

You may now pray Almighty Allah for any thing you wish and beseech Him to grant you whatever you need, because any supplication that is said between the azan and Iqamah will not be rejected.

After uttering the Iqamah, you may say the following:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِلَيْكَ تَوَجَّهْتُ وَمَرَضَاتَكَ طَلَبْتُ وَثَوَابَكَ ابْتَغَيْتُ وَبِكَ اٰمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاۤلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّافْتَحْ مَسَامِعَ قَلْبِىْ لِذِكْرِكَ وَثَبِّتْنِىْ عَلٰى دِيْنِكَ وَ دِيْنِ نَبِيِّكَ وَلَا تُزِغْ قَلْبِىْ بَعْدَ اِذْ هَدَيْتَنِىْ وَهَبْ لِىْ مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ.

ALLAAHUMMA ELAYKA TAWAJJAHTO WA MARZAATAKA TALABTO WA SAWAABAKAB TAGHAYTO WA BEKA AAMANTO WA A’LAYKA TAWAKKALTO ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN WAF TAH MASAAME-A’ QALBEE LE-ZEKREKA WA SABBITNEE A’LAA DEENEKA WA DEENE NABIYYEKA WA LAA TOZIGH QALBEE BA’DA IZ HADAYTANEE WA HAB LEE MIN LADUNKA RAHMATAN INNAKA ANTAL WAHHAABO.

O Allah, toward You I have turned, Your pleasure I have sought, Your reward I have desired, in You I have believed, and upon You I have relied. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and open the ears of my heart to Your remembrance, and keep me firm upon Your religion and the religion of Your Prophet. Do not let my heart deviate after You have guided me, and grant me mercy from Yourself; indeed, You are the Bestower.
