Post-Ziyarah Prayer & Dua

Salat -Dua after Ziarat Offer a six unit prayer

In the first two units, which are intended for visiting the tomb of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (‘a), you may recite [Surah al-Fatihah](A5) and [Surah al-Rahman](A59) (No. 55) at the first unit, and recite [Surah al-Fatihah](A5) and [Surah Yasin](A40) (No. 36) in the second.

you may then say the famous Tasbih al-Zahra' (sa), implore for Almighty Allah’s forgiveness (istighfar), pray Him to grant you your personal needs, and then say the following

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي صَلَّيْتُ هَاتَيْنِ ٱلرَّكْعَتَيْنِ

allahumma inni sallattu hatayni alrrak`atayni

O Allah, I have offered these two units of prayer,

هَدِيَّةً مِنِّي إِلَىٰ سَيِّدِي وَمَوْلاَيَ

hadiyyatan minni ila sayyidi wa mawlaya

as present from me to my master and chief:

وَلِيِّكَ وَأَخِي رَسُولِكَ

waliyyika wa akhi rasulika

Your intimate servant, the brother of Your Messenger,

أَمِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

amiri almu'minina

the Commander of the Faithful

وَسَيِّدِ ٱلْوَصِيّينَ

wa sayyidi alwasiyyina

and the chief of the Prophets’ successors;

عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ

`aliyyi bni abi talibin

namely, `Ali the son of Abu-Talib,

صَلَوَاتُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ

salawatu allahi `alayhi wa `ala alihi

may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his household.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allahumma fasalli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

So, O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَتَقَبَّلَهَا مِنِّي

wa taqabbalha minni

accept that prayer from me,

وَٱجْزِنِي عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ جَزَاءَ ٱلْمُحْسِنينَ

wajzini `ala dhalika jaza'a almuhsinina

and confer upon me with the reward that You give to the good-doers.

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صَلَّيْتُ

allahumma laka sallaytu

O Allah, to You have I offered prayer,

وَلَكَ رَكَعْتُ

wa laka raka`tu

genuflected,

وَلَكَ سَجَدْتُ

wa laka sajadtu

and prostrated myself;

وَحْدَكَ لاََ شَرِيكَ لَكَ

wahdaka la sharika laka

to You alone without associating anyone with You,

لأَنَّهُ لاََ تَكُونُ ٱلصَّلاَةُ

li'annahu la takunu alssalatu

because prayers,

وَٱلرُّكُوعُ وَٱلسُّجُودُ إِلاَّ لَكَ

walrruku`u walssujudu illa laka

genuflections, and prostrations are submitted to none save You,

لأَنَّكَ أَنْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاََ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

li'annaka anta allahu la ilaha illa anta

because You are Allah; there is no god save You.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

O Allah, (please do) bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَتَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي زِيَارَتِي

wa taqabbal minni ziyarati

admit my visit,

وَأَعْطِنِي سُؤْلِي

wa a`tini su'li

and respond to my requests

بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ

bimuhammadin wa alihi alttahirina

in the name of Muhammad and his Household—the immaculate ones.

You may then provide the other four units as present to Prophet Adam(as) and Prophet Noah.(as)

You may then prostrate yourself for thanksgiving (sajdat al-shukr) and say the following words:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِلَيْكَ تَوَجَّهْتُ

allahumma ilayka tawajjahtu

O Allah, to You do I direct my face,

وَبِكَ ٱعْتَصَمْتُ

wa bika i`tasamtu

to You do I resort,

وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ

wa `alayka tawakkaltu

and on You do I rely.

اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ ثِقَتِي وَرَجَائِي

allahumma anta thiqati wa raja'i

O Allah, You are my trust and my hope;

فَٱكْفِنِي مَا أَهَمَّنِي وَمَا لاََ يُهِمُّنِي

fakfini ma ahammani wa ma la yuhimmuni

so, (please do) save me from whatever concerns me, whatever does not concern me,

وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي

wa ma anta a`lamu bihi minni

and whatever You know more than I do.

عَزَّ جَارُكَ

`azza jaruka

Certainly, protected is he who lies under Your protection,

وَجَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ

wa jalla thana'uka

glory be to Your praise,

وَلاَ إِلٰهَ غَيْرُكَ

wa la ilaha ghayruka

and there is no deity save You.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّد

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

(Please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَقَرِّبْ فَرَجَهُمْ

wa qarrib farajahum

and hasten their Relief.

You may then put your right cheek on the ground and say the following words:

إِرْحَمْ ذُلِّي بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

irham dhulli bayna yadayka

(Please do) have mercy on my humiliation before You,

وَتَضَرُّعِي إِلَيْكَ

wa tadarru`i ilayka

on my earnest imploring to You,

وَوَحْشَتِي مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ

wa wahshati min alnnasi

on my loneliness among people,

وَأُنْسِي بِكَ

wa unsi bika

and on my amiability with You.

يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ

ya karimu ya karimu ya karimu

O All-generous! O All-generous! O All-generous!

You may then put your left cheek on the ground and say the following words:

لاََ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي حَقّاً حَقّاً

la ilaha illa anta rabbi haqqan haqqan

There is no god save You, my Lord; truly, truly.

سَجَدْتُ لَكَ يَا رَبِّ تَعَبُّداً وَرِقّاً

sajadtu laka ya rabbi ta`abbudan wa riqqan

O Lord, I prostrate myself before You as sign of my worshipfulness and servitude to You.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ عَمَلِي ضَعيفٌ فَضَاعِفْهُ لِي

allahumma inna `amali da`ifun fada`ifhu li

O Allah, my deed is certainly feeble; so, (please do) grant it strength by increasing it many times,

يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ

ya karimu ya karimu ya karimu

O All-generous! O All-generous! O All-generous!

You may then return to the state of ordinary prostration and repeat "shukran" one hundred times:

شُكْراً

shukran

Recite Dua After Ziarat - Allhumma La Budda

[Dua Alqama](E8)

You are also recommended to implore Almighty Allah for forgiveness as sincerely as possible, because the place you are in is the zone of forgiveness. You are recommended to beseech Almighty Allah for settling your needs as seriously as possible, because the place you are in is the zone of responding to the needs.

Further Dua

In his book of al-Mazar, Sayyid ibn Tawus says: Whenever you offer an obligatory or a supererogatory prayer during your presence in the holy shrine of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (‘a), you are recommended to say the following supplication:

اَللَّهُمَّ لاََ بُدَّ مِنْ أَمْرِكَ

allahumma la budda min amrika

O Allah, Your determination is surely unavoidable,

وَلاَ بُدَّ مِنْ قَدَرِكَ

wa la budda min qadarika

Your destiny is unavoidable,

وَلاَ بُدَّ مِنْ قَضَائِكَ

wa la budda min qada'ika

Your act is unavoidable,

وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِكَ

wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa bika

and there is no power and no might except with You.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَمَا قَضَيْتَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ قَضَاءٍ

allahumma fama qadayta `alayna min qada'in

So, O Allah, whatever act You decide on us

أَوْ قَدَّرْتَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ قَدَرٍ

aw qaddarta `alayna min qadarin

and whatever decree You make on us,

فَأَعْطِنَا مَعَهُ صَبْراً يَقْهَرُهُ وَيَدْمَغُهُ

fa'a`tina ma`ahu sabran yaqharuhu wa yadmaghuhu

(please do) grant us along with it patience that repels and fends it off

وَٱجْعَلْهُ لَنَا صَاعِداً فِي رِضْوَانِكَ

waj`alhu lana sa`idan fi ridwanika

and make it ascend for our good toward Your Pleasure

يُنْمي فِي حَسَنَاتِنَا وَتَفْضيلِنَا

yunmi fi hasanatina wa tafdilina

so that it shall grow up our rewards, favors,

وَسُؤْدَدِنَا وَشَرَفِنَا

wa su'dadina wa sharafina

tributes, honor,

وَمَجْدِنَا وَنَعْمَائِنَا

wa majdina wa na`ma'ina

glory, boon,

وَكَرَامَتِنَا فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

wa karamatina fi alddunya wal-akhirati

and dignity in this world as well as the world to come.

وَلاَ تَنْقُصْ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِنَا

wa la tanqus min hasanatina

And (please) do not lessen our rewards.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَمَا أَعْطَيْتَنَا مِنْ عَطَاءٍ

allahumma wa ma a`taytana min `ata'in

O Allah, whatever donation You give us,

أَوْ فَضَّلْتَنَا بِهِ مِنْ فَضِيلَةٍ

aw faddaltana bihi min fadilatin

whatever virtue You confer on us,

أَوْ أَكْرَمْتَنَا بِهِ مِنْ كَرَامَةٍ

aw akramtana bihi min karamatin

whatever endowment You bestow on us,

فَأَعْطِنَا مَعَهُ شُكْراً يَقْهَرُهُ وَيَدْمَغُهُ

fa'a`tina ma`ahu shukran yaqharuhu wa yadmaghuhu

(please) grant us with it thanksgiving that repels and fends it off.

وَٱجْعَلْهُ لَنَا صَاعِداً فِي رِضْوَانِكَ

waj`alhu lana sa`idan fi ridwanika

And make it ascend for our good toward Your Pleasure,

وَفِي حَسَنَاتِنَا وَسُؤْدَدِنَا

wa fi hasanatina wa su'dadina

and ascend in our rewards, tribute,

وَشَرَفِنَا وَنَعْمَائِكَ

wa sharafina wa na`ma'ika

honor, Your boon,

وَكَرَامَتِكَ فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

wa karamatika fi alddunya wal-akhirati

and Your honoring (us) in this world as well as the world to come.

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْهُ لَنَا أَشَراً وَلاَ بَطَراً

wa la taj`alhu lana asharan wa la bataran

And (please) do not make it to be for us a source of evil, ungratefulness,

وَلاَ فِتْنَةً وَلاَ مَقْتاً

wa la fitnatan wa la maqtan

seditious matter, hatred,

وَلاَ عَذَاباً وَلاَ خِزْياً فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

wa la `adhaban wa la khizyan fi alddunya wal-akhirati

torture, or disgrace in this world as well as the world to come.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَثْرَةِ ٱللِّسَانِ

allahumma inna na`udhu bika min `athrati allisani

O Allah, we do seek Your protection against slips of tongues,

وَسُوءِ ٱلْمَقَامِ

wa su'i almaqami

evil situations,

وَخِفَّةِ ٱلْمِيزَانِ

wa khiffati almizani

and lightness of the Scale.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَلَقِّنَا حَسَنَاتِنَا فِي ٱلْمَمَاتِ

wa laqqina hasanatina fi almamati

make us meet our the rewards of good deeds at the hours of our death,

وَلاَ تُرِنَا أَعْمَالَنَا حَسَرَاتٍ

wa la turina a`malana hasaratin

do not show us the fruits of our deeds as nothing but regrets,

وَلاَ تُخْزِنَا عِنْدَ قَضَائِكَ

wa la tukhzina `inda qada'ika

do not disgrace us when You judge us,

وَلاَ تَفْضَحْنَا بِسَيِّئَاتِنَا يَوْمَ نَلْقَاكَ

wa la tafdahna bisayyi'atina yawma nalqaka

do not expose us because of our evildoings on the Day when we shall meet You,

وَٱجْعَلْ قُلُوبَنَا تَذْكُرُكَ وَلاَ تَنْسَاكَ

waj`al qulubana tadhkuruka wa la tansaka

make our hearts remember You always and never forget You,

وَتَخْشَاكَ كَأَنَّهَا تَرَاكَ حَتَّىٰ نَلْقَاكَ

wa takhshaka ka'annaha taraka hatta talqaka

make our hears fear You as if they can see You until we meet You,

وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

wa salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَبَدِّلْ سَيِّئَاتِنَا حَسَنَاتٍ

wa baddil sayyi'atina hasanatin

change our evildoings into good deeds,

وَٱجْعَلْ حَسْنَاتِنَا دَرَجَاتٍ

waj`al hasanatina darajatin

make our good deeds to be grades,

وَٱجْعَلْ دَرَجَاتِنَا غُرُفَاتٍ

waj`al darajatina ghurufatin

change our grades into chambers (in Paradise),

وَٱجْعَلْ غُرُفَاتِنَا عَالِيَاتٍ

waj`al ghurufatina `aliyatin

and make our chambers high.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَأَوْسِعْ لِفَقِيرِنَا

allahumma wa awsi` lifaqirina

O Allah, (please do) expand the source of sustenance for our poor people

مِنْ سَعَةِ مَا قَضَيْتَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِكَ

min sa`ati ma qadayta `ala nafsika

from the expansion that You have taken upon Yourself to make.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَمُنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِٱلْهُدَىٰ مَا أَبْقَيْتَنَا

wa munna `alayna bilhuda ma abqaytana

and endue us with true guidance as long as You grant us life,

وَٱلْكَرَامَةِ مَا أَحْيَيْتَنَا

walkaramati ma ahyaytana

with honor as long as You keep us alive,

وَٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ إِذَا تَوَفَّيْتَنَا

walkaramati idha tawaffaytana

with forgiveness when You decide to cease our lifetime,

وَٱلْحِفْظِ فِي مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ عُمْرِنَا

walhifzi fi ma baqiya min `umrina

with protection in the rest of our lifetime,

وَٱلْبَرَكَةِ فِي مَا رَزَقْتَنَا

walbarakati fi ma razaqtana

with blessings in the sustenance that You give us,

وَٱلْعَوْنِ عَلَىٰ مَا حَمَّلْتَنَا

wal`awni `ala ma hammaltana

with help to carry out what You have burdened us with,

وَٱلثَّبَاتِ عَلَىٰ مَا طَوَّقْتَنَا

walththabati `ala ma tawwaqtana

and with steadfastness against what You have imposed on us.

وَلاَ تُؤاخِذْنَا بِظُلْمِنَا

wa la tu'akhidhna bizulmina

And do not punish us for our wrongdoings,

وَلاَ تُقَايِسْنَا بِجَهْلِنَا

wa la tuqayisna bijahlina

do not treat us on basis of our lack of knowledge,

وَلاَ تَسْتَدْرِجْنَا بِخَطَايَانَا

wa la tastadrijna bikhatayana

do not draw us near to destruction gradually on account of our sins,

وَٱجْعَلْ أَحْسَنَ مَا نَقُولُ ثَابِتاً فِي قُلُوبِنَا

waj`al ahsana ma naqulu thabitan fi qulubina

make the best of our words to be firm in our hearts,

وَٱجْعَلْنَا عُظَمَاءَ عِنْدَكَ

waj`alna `uzama'a `indaka

make us to be great persons in Your view

وَأَذِلَّةً فِي أَنْفُسِنَا

wa adhillatan fi anfusina

but humble ones in our own views,

وَٱنْفَعْنَا بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنَا

wanfa`na bima `allamtana

make that which You have taught us to benefit us,

وَزِدْنَا عِلْماً نَافِعاً

wa zidna `ilman nafi`an

and increase us with useful knowledge.

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ قَلْبٍ لاََ يَخْشَعُ

wa a`udhu bika min qalbin la yakhsha`u

And I seek Your protection against a heart that does not submit (to You),

وَمِنْ عَيْنٍ لاََ تَدْمَعُ

wa min `aynin la tadma`u

an eye that does not shed tears (for fear of You),

وَمِنْ صَلاَةٍ لاََ تُقْبَلُ

wa min salatin la tuqbalu

and a prayer that is not admitted (by You).

أَجِرْنَا مِنْ سُوءِ الْفِتَنِ

ajirna min su'i alfitani

(Please do) rescue us from the evil seditious matters,

يَا وَلِيَّ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

ya waliyya alddunya wal-akhirati

O Manager of this world and the world to come.
