Dua on the 22nd Night of Ramadhan

Text and Translation

يَا سَالِخَ النَّهَارِ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَاِذَا نَحْنُ مُظْلِمُوْنَ وَ مُجْرِي الشَّمْسِ لِمُسْتَقَرِّهَا بِتَقْدِيْرِكَ يَا عَزِيْزُ يَا عَلِيْمُ

YAA SAALIKHAN NAHAARA MINAL LAYLI FA-IZAA NAHNU MUZLIMOON, WA MUJRISH SHAMSI LI-MUSTAQARRIHAA BI-TAQDEERIK, YAA A'ZEEZU YAA A'LEEM

O He Who draws forth daylight from night, and we are then in darkness, and Who makes the sun run to its resting place by Your decree — O Mighty, O Knowing,

وَ مُقَدِّرَ الْقَمَرِ مَنَازِلَ حَتّٰى عَادَ كَالْعُرْجُوْنِ الْقَدِيْمِ يَا نُوْرَ كُلِّ نُوْرٍ وَ مُنْتَهٰى كُلِّ رَغْبَةٍ وَ وَلِىَّ كُلِّ نِعْمَةٍ

WA MUQADDIRAL QAMARI MANAAZILA HATTAA A'ADA KAL U'RJOONIL QADEEM, YAA NOORA KULLI NOOR WA MUNTAHAA KULLI RAGHBAH WA WALIYYA KULLI NI'MAH

and Who ordained for the moon its phases until it returns like an old dry palm-branch — O Light of every light, O ultimate goal of every desire, O Guardian of every blessing,

يَا اَللهُ يَا رَحْمٰنُ يَا اَللهُ يَا قُدُّوْسُ يَا اَحَدُ يَا وَاحِدُ يَا فَرْدُ يَا اَللهُ يَا اَللهُ يَا اَللهُ لَكَ الْاَسْمَاۤءُ الْحُسْنٰى وَالْاَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَالْكِبْرِيَاۤءُ وَالْاٰلَاۤءُ

YAA ALLAAH YAA RAHMAAN, YAA ALLAAH YAA QUDDOOS, YAA AHADU YAA WAAHIDU YAA FARD, YAA ALLAAH YAA ALLAAH YAA ALLAAH, LAKAL ASMAAA-UL HUSNAA WAL AMTHAALUL U'LYAA WAL KIBRIYAAA-U WAL AALAAA-U

O Allah, O All-beneficent; O Allah, O Holy; O One, O Single, O Unique; O Allah, O Allah, O Allah — to You belong the Most Excellent Names, the most exalted attributes, greatness, and bounties.

اَسْاَلُكَ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اَهْلِ بَيْتِهٖ وَ اَنْ تَجْعَلَ اسْمِيْ فِيْ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ فِي السُّعَدَاۤءِ وَ رُوْحِيْ مَعَ الشُّهَدَاۤءِ وَ اِحْسَانِيْ فِيْ عِلِّيِّيْنَ وَ اِسَاۤءَتِيْ مَغْفُوْرَةً

AS-ALUKA AN TUSALLIYA A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AHLI BAYTIHI WA AN TAJ-A'LAS-MEE FEE HAAZIHIL LAYLATI FIS SU-A'DAAA-I WA ROOHEE MA-A'SH SHUHADAAA-I WA IHSAANEE FEE I'LLIYYEEN WA ISAAA-ATEE MAGHFOORAH

I ask You to bless Muhammad and the people of his household, and to include my name this night among the happy ones, my soul with the martyrs, my good deeds in the highest Illiyyin, and my wrongdoing forgiven,

وَ اَنْ تَهَبَ لِيْ يَقِيْنًا تُبَاشِرُ بِهٖ قَلْبِيْ وَ اِيْمَانًا يُذْهِبُ الشَّكَّ عَنِّيْ وَ تُرْضِيَنِيْ بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِيْ وَاٰتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَ فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَ قِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ الْحَرِيْقِ

WA AN TAHABA LEE YAQEENAN TUBAASHIRU BIHI QALBEE WA EEMAANAN YUZHIBUSH SHAKKA A'NNEE WA TURDIYANEE BIMAA QASAMTA LEE, WA AATINAA FID DUNYAA HASANATAN WA FIL AAKHIRATI HASANATAN WA QINAA A'ZAABAN NAARIL HAREEQ

and to grant me certitude that fills my heart, and faith that removes doubt from me, and to make me content with what You have apportioned for me; and grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the burning Fire,

وَ ارْزُقْنِيْ فِيْهَا ذِكْرَكَ وَ شُكْرَكَ وَالرَّغْبَةَ اِلَيْكَ وَالْاِنَابَةَ وَالتَّوْفِيْقَ لِمَا وَفَّقْتَ لَهٗ مُحَمَّدًا وَاٰلَ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ

WARZUQNEE FEEHAA ZIKRAKA WA SHUKRAKA WAR RAGHBATA ILAYKA WAL INAABATA WAT TAWFEEQA LIMAA WAFFAQTA LAHU MUHAMMADAN WA AALA MUHAMMADIN A'LAYHIMUS SALAAM

and grant me this night Your remembrance and Your thanks, and desire for You, and turning to You in repentance, and success in that to which You granted success to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, peace be upon them.
