Dua for the Third Hour

Text and Translation

The third hour, which is from the disappearance of the ray of the sun to the rising of daylight, is dedicated to Imam al-Husayn ibn Ali (a). The following is the supplication at this hour:

يَا مَنْ تَجَبَّرَ فَلَا عَيْنٌ تَرَاهُ يَا مَنْ تَعَظَّمَ فَلَا تَخْطُرُ الْقُلُوْبُ بِكُنْهِهِ يَا حَسَنَ الْمَنِّ يَا حَسَنَ التَّجَاوُزِ يَا حَسَنَ الْعَفْوِ يَا جَوَادُ يَا كَرِيْمُ يَا مَنْ لَا يُشْبِهُهُ شَيْءٌ مِّنْ خَلْقِهِ يَا مَنْ مَنَّ عَلٰى خَلْقِهِ بِاَوْلِيَاۤئِهِ اِذِ ارْتَضَيْهُمْ لِدِيْنِهِ وَ اَدَّبَ بِهِمْ عِبَادَهُ وَ جَعَلَهُمْ حُجَجًا مَّنًّا مِّنْهُ عَلٰى خَلْقِهِ اَسْئَلُكَ بِحَقِّ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ السِّبْطِ التَّابِعِ لِمَرْضَاتِكَ وَ النَّاصِحِ فِيْ دِيْنِكَ وَالدَّلِيْلِ عَلٰى ذَاتِكَ اَسْئَلُكَ بِحَقِّهِ وَ اُقَدِّمُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَوَاۤئِجِيْ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِيْ كَذَا وَ كَذَا۔

YAA MAN TAJABBARA FA-LAA A'YNUN TARAAH, YAA MAN TA-A'ZZAMA FA-LAA TAKHTURUL QULOOBU BI-KUNHIH, YAA HASANAL MANN, YAA HASANAT TAJAAWUZ, YAA HASANAL A'FW, YAA JAWAADU YAA KAREEM, YAA MAL LAA YUSHBIHUHU SHAY-UM MIN KHALQIH, YAA MAN MANNA A'LAA KHALQIHI BI-AWLIYAAA-IHI IZIR TADAAHUM LI-DEENIH, WA ADDABA BIHIM I'BAADAH, WA JA-A'LAHUM HUJAJAM MANNAM MINHU A'LAA KHALQIH, AS-ALUKA BI-HAQQIL HUSAYNI BNI A'LIYYIN A'LAYHIMAS SALAAM, AS SIBTIT TAABI-I' LI-MARDAATIK, WAN NAASIHI FEE DEENIK, WAD DALEELI A'LAA ZAATIK, AS-ALUKA BI-HAQQIH, WA UQADDIMUHU BAYNA YADAY HAWAAA-IJEE, AN TUSALLIYA A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMADIN WA AN TAF-A'LA BEE KAZAA WA KAZAA.

O He Who is mighty, so no eye can see Him! O He Who is great, so hearts cannot conceive His true nature! O Excellent in Bestowal! O Excellent in Overlooking! O Excellent in Pardoning! O Generous! O Noble! O He Whom nothing among His creation resembles! O He Who has favored His creation with His intimate friends, choosing them for His religion, disciplining His servants through them, and making them proofs as a favor from Him upon His creation! I beseech You by the right of al-Husayn ibn Ali, upon both of them be peace, the grandson who follows Your good pleasure, the sincere advisor in Your religion, and the guide to Your Essence — I beseech You by his right, and I present him before my needs, that You bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and that You do for me such-and-such.
