Text and Translation
In some books written by Imamiyyah scholars, it is reported that whoever wishes to see in a dream one of the Prophets, one of the Holy Imams, one of the departed, or one of his parents, may recite [Surah al-Shams](A95), [Surah al-Layl](A96), [Surah al-Qadr](A101), Surah al-Kafirun, [Surah al-Tawhid](A116), [Surah al-Falaq](A117), and [Surah al-Nas](A118). Then he may repeat Surah al-Tawhid one hundred times and repeat the invocation of Allah's blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household one hundred times, and, having performed the ritual ablutions (wudu), sleep on his right side. If he does this, he will see in his dream whomever Allah wants him to see, and speak with whomever Allah wants him to speak with.
According to another copy, one may do all of the above over seven successive nights after saying this supplicatory prayer:
ALLAAHUMMA ANTAL HAYYUL LAZEE LAA YOOSAFO
O Allah, You are the Living One Who cannot be described,
WAL EEMAANO YU'RAFO MINHO
and faith is known through Him,
MINKA BADATIL ASHYAA-O WA ILAYKA TA'OODO
from You all things originated, and to You they return,
FAMAA AQBALA MINHAA KUNTA MALJA-AHU WA MANJAAHU
so whatever of them turns toward You, You are its refuge and its deliverance,
WA MAA ADBARA MINHAA LAM YAKUL LAHU MALJA-ON WA LAA MANJAN MINKA ILLAA ILAYKA
and whatever of them turns away, it has no refuge and no deliverance from You except back to You,
FA-AS-ALOKA BE LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA
so I ask You by "there is no god but You,"
WA AS-ALOKA BE BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
and I ask You by "In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the All-Compassionate,"
WA BEHAQQE HABEEBIKA MOHAMMADIN SALLAL LAAHO ALAYHE WA AALEHI SAYYIDIN NABIYYEEN
and by the right of Your beloved Muhammad — Allah's blessings be upon him and his Household — the master of the Prophets,
WA BEHAQQE ALIYYIN KHAYRIL WASIYYEEN
and by the right of Ali, the best of the successors,
WA BEHAQQE FAATIMATA SAYYIDATE NISAA-IL AALAMEEN
and by the right of Fatimah, the mistress of the women of the worlds,
WA BEHAQQIL HASANE WAL HUSAYNIL LAZAYNI JA-ALTAHOMAA SAYYIDAY SHABAABE AHLIL JANNATI, ALAYHIM AJMA-EENAS SALAAM
and by the right of Hasan and Husayn, whom You made the two masters of the youth of the people of Paradise — peace be upon them all —
AN TUSALLIYA ALAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMAD
to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
WA AN TUREYANEE MAYYITEE FIL HAALIL LATEE HOWA FEEHAA
and to show me my departed one, in the state that he is in.
Kaf'ami, in al-Misbah, and al-Muhaddith al-Fayd, in Khulasat al-Adhkar, both record this from Imamiyyah scholars — the sixteenth of a set of recommended (not obligatory) practices not mentioned in Mafatih al-Jinan.
