Dua for the First Hour

Text and Translation

The first hour of the day, which is the space of time between dawn (fajr) and sunrise, is dedicated to Imam Ali, Amir al-Mu'minin (a). The supplication at this hour is as follows:

اَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ الْبَهَاۤءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاۤءِ وَالسُّلْطَانِ اَظْهَرْتَ الْقُدْرَةَ كَيْفَ شِئْتَ وَ مَنَنْتَ عَلٰى عِبَادِكَ بِمَغْفِرَتِكَ وَ تَسَلَّطْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِجَبَرُوْتِكَ وَ عَلَّمْتَهُمْ شُكْرَ نِعْمَتِكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ فَبِحَقِّ عَلِيٍّ الْمُرْتَضٰى لِلدِّيْنِ وَالْعَالِمِ بِالْحُكْمِ وَ مَجَارِيْ التُّقٰى اِمَامِ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ فِى الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِيْنَ وَ اُقَدِّمُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَوَاۤئِجِيْ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِيْ كَذَا وَ كَذَا۔

ALLAAHUMMA RABBAL BAHAAA-I WAL A'ZAMATI WAL KIBRIYAAA-I WAS SULTAAN, AZHARTAL QUDRATA KAYFA SHI'T, WA MANANTA A'LAA I'BAADIKA BI-MAGHFIRATIK, WA TASALLATTA A'LAYHIM BI-JABAROOTIK, WA A'LLAMTAHUM SHUKRA NI'MATIK, ALLAAHUMMA FA-BI-HAQQI A'LIYYINIL MURTADAA LID DEEN, WAL A'ALIMI BIL HUKMI WA MAJAARIT TUQAA, IMAAMIL MUTTAQEEN, SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALIHI FIL AWWALEENA WAL AAKHIREEN, WA UQADDIMUHU BAYNA YADAY HAWAAA-IJEE, AN TUSALLIYA A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMADIN WA AN TAF-A'LA BEE KAZAA WA KAZAA.

O Allah, Lord of splendor, greatness, majesty, and dominion; You have shown power as You willed, favored Your servants with Your forgiveness, exercised authority over them through Your omnipotence, and taught them gratitude for Your blessing. O Allah, so by the right of Ali, the one approved for the religion, the knower of judgment and the paths of piety, the leader of the pious, bless Muhammad and his Household among the earlier and the later generations; and I present him before my needs, that You bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and that You do for me such-and-such.
