Dua for the Fifth Hour

Text and Translation

The fifth hour of the day, which is the space of time between midday (zuhr) and the amount of four units of prayer after midday, is dedicated to Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a). The supplication at this hour is as follows:

اَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ الضِّيَاۤءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ وَالنُّوْرِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاۤءِ وَالسُّلْطَانِ تَجَبَّرْتَ بِعَظَمَةِ بَهَاۤئِكَ وَ مَنَنْتَ عَلٰى عِبَادِكَ بِرَاْفَتِكَ وَ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ دَلَلْتَهُمْ عَلٰى مَوْجُوْدِ رِضَاكَ وَ جَعَلْتَ لَهُمْ دَلِيْلًا يَّدُلُّهُمْ عَلٰى مَحَبَّتِكَ وَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ مَحَآبَّكَ وَ يَدُلُّهُمْ عَلٰى مَشِيَّتِكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ فَبِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَ اُقَدِّمُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَوَاۤئِجِيْ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِيْ كَذَا وَ كَذَا۔

ALLAAHUMMA RABBAD DIYAAA-I WAL A'ZAMATI WAN NOORI WAL KIBRIYAAA-I WAS SULTAAN, TAJABBARTA BI-A'ZAMATI BAHAAA-IK, WA MANANTA A'LAA I'BAADIKA BI-RA'FATIKA WA RAHMATIK, WA DALALTAHUM A'LAA MAWJOODI RIDAAK, WA JA-A'LTA LAHUM DALEELAY YADULLUHUM A'LAA MAHABBATIK, WA YU-A'LLIMUHUM MAHAAA-BBAK, WA YADULLUHUM A'LAA MASHEE-ATIK, ALLAAHUMMA FA-BI-HAQQI MUHAMMADIBNI A'LIYYIN A'LAYHIMAS SALAAMU A'LAYK, WA UQADDIMUHU BAYNA YADAY HAWAAA-IJEE, AN TUSALLIYA A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMADIN WA AN TAF-A'LA BEE KAZAA WA KAZAA.

O Allah, Lord of radiance, greatness, light, majesty, and dominion; You have shown might through the greatness of Your splendor, favored Your servants with Your compassion and mercy, guided them to the reality of Your good pleasure, and set for them a guide who directs them to Your love, teaches them what You love, and directs them to Your will. O Allah, so by the right of Muhammad ibn Ali, upon both of them be peace, I beseech You, and I present him before my needs, that You bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and that You do for me such-and-such.
