When the grave is leveled, anyone may put his hand on it, open the fingers, press them on the grave, and pray for the dead person, saying:
ALLAAHUMMA AANIS WAHSHATAHU WARHAM GHURBATAHU WA ASKIN RAW-A'TAHU WA SIL WAHDATAHU WA ASKIN ILAYHI MIR RAHMATIKA RAHMATAY YASTAGHNEE BIHAA A'N RAHMATI MAN SIWAAK, WAHSHURHU MA-A' MAN KAANA YATAWALLAAH.
O Allah, comfort his loneliness, have mercy on his exile, calm his terror, join his solitude, and settle upon him, from Your mercy, a mercy through which he becomes needless of the mercy of any but You, and gather him with those he held as his guardians.
When people leave, the nearest relative of the dead person should remain there, praying for Almighty Allah's mercy on the dead person. If nothing prevents it, this person should call out to the dead loudly and say these words:
YAA FULAANA BNA FULAAN, ALLAAHU RABBUKA WA MUHAMMADUN NABIYYUK, WAL QUR-AANU KITAABUK, WAL KA'BATU QIBLATUK, WA A'LIYYUN IMAAMUK, WAL HASANU WAL HUSAYNU ... A-IMMATUKA A-IMMATUL HUDAL ABRAAR.
O so-and-so, son of so-and-so: Allah is your Lord, Muhammad is your Prophet, the Qur'an is your Book, the Ka'bah is your direction of prayer, Ali is your Imam, and al-Hasan and al-Husayn ... are your Imams, the rightly-guiding, righteous Imams.
