Al-Mufid, in al-Majalis, reports from Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah (Imam Ali's son) that while the Commander of the Faithful (a.s.) was circumambulating the Ka'bah, he saw a man clinging to its curtains and reciting this supplication. The man — who turned out to be al-Khidr — told Imam Ali that any believer who supplicates with it after every prayer will be forgiven, even if his sins were as numerous as the stars, the raindrops, and the pebbles and stones of the earth. Al-Kaf'ami also reports it in al-Balad al-Amin.

Text and Translation

يَا مَنْ لَا يَشْغَلُهُ سَمْعٌ عَنْ سَمْعٍ

YAA MAN LAA YASHGHALOHU SAM-U'N A'N SAM-I'N

O He Whom one act of hearing does not distract from another,

يَا مَنْ لَا يُغَلِّطُهُ السَّاۤئِلُوْنَ

YAA MAN LAA YUGHALLITOHUS SAA-ELOON

O He Whom those who ask cannot confuse,

وَ يَا مَنْ لَا يُبْرِمُهُ اِلْحَاحُ الْمُلِحِّيْنَ

WA YAA MAN LAA YUBRIMOHU ILHAAHUL MULIHHEEN

and O He Whom the insistence of the insistent does not weary,

اَذِقْنِيْ بَرْدَ عَفْوِكَ وَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَ حَلَاوَةَ رَحْمَتِكَ

AZIQNEE BARDA A'FWEKA WA MAGHFERATIKA WA HALAAWATA RAHMATIKA

let me taste the coolness of Your pardon and forgiveness, and the sweetness of Your mercy.
