Open Dua for Longevity in Shia Companion
Merits
Sayyid Ibn Tawus, through a valid chain, reports from Jamil ibn Darraj: a man came to Imam al-Sadiq (a) and said, 'My master, I have grown old, my relatives have all died, and I fear death may come upon me with no one to keep me company or turn to.' The Imam (a) said: 'Some of your brothers in faith are closer to you than relatives, and you may find more pleasant company with them than with your relatives. But if you wish for yourself and your relatives to live longer, say this supplication after every ritual prayer.' The old man later said, 'By Allah, I lived so long afterward that I grew weary of life.' This supplication, held in high regard, is recorded in every book of supplications.
Text and Translation
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
ALLAAHUMMA SALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMAD
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّ رَسُوْلَكَ الصَّادِقَ الْمُصَدَّقَ صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ قَالَ
ALLAAHUMMA INNA RASOOLAKAS SAADIQAL MUSADDAQA SALAWAATUKA A'LAYHI WA AALIHI QAAL
O Allah, indeed Your truthful, verified Messenger — Your blessings upon him and his Household — said,
اِنَّكَ قُلْتَ مَا تَرَدَّدْتُ فِىْ شَىْءٍ اَنَا فَاعِلُهُ كَتَرَدُّدِىْ فِى قَبْضِ رُوْحِ عَبْدِىَ الْمُؤْمِنِ
INNAKA QULTA MAA TARADDADTU FEE SHAY-IN ANAA FAA-I'LUHU KA-TARADDUDEE FEE QABDI ROOHI A'BDIYAL MU'MIN
'You have said: I have never hesitated over anything I am to do as I hesitate over taking the soul of My believing servant
يَكْرَهُ الْمَوْتَ وَاَكْرَهُ مَسَاۤئَتَهُ
YAKRAHUL MAWTA WA AKRAHU MASAAA-ATAH
who dislikes death, while I dislike to displease him.
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
ALLAAHUMMA FASALLI A'LAA MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMAD
O Allah, so bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَعَجِّلْ لِوَلِيِّكَ الْفَرَجَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ وَالنَّصْرَ
WA A'JJIL LI-WALIYYIKAL FARAJA WAL A'AAFIYATA WAN NASR
and hasten for Your representative relief, well-being, and victory,
وَلَا تَسُؤْنِىْ فِىْ نَفْسِىْ وَلَا فِىْ اَحَدٍ مِنْ اَحِبَّتِىْ
WA LAA TASU-NEE FEE NAFSEE WA LAA FEE AHADIM MIN AHIBBATEE
and do not distress me in myself, nor in any of my loved ones.
You may then mention the persons you love by name.
