Dua for Istekhaarah fom Holy Quran

Text and Translation

It is worth mentioning that ‘Allamah al-Majlisi has reported from some books written by our scholars on the authority of a book handwritten by Shaykh Yusuf al-Usmani on the authority of a book handwritten by Ayatollah ‘Allamah who said that Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) is reported to have said:

If you intend for Istekhaarah from the Mighty Book (i.e. the Holy Qur’an), you may say this supplicatory prayer:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّ حْمٰنِ الرَّ حِيْمِ

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEME

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

اِنْ كَانَ فِىْ قَضَاۤئِكَ وَقَدَرِكَ اَنْتَمُنَّ

IN KAANA FEE QAZAAA-EKA WA QADAREKA AN TAMUNNA

If it is within Your decree and Your destiny to bestow favor

عَلٰى شِيْعَةِ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ

A’LAA SHEE-A’TE AALE MOHAMMADIN A’LAYHEMUS SALAAMO

upon the followers (Shia) of the family of Muhammad—peace be upon them—

بِفَرَجِ وَلِيِّكَ وَ حُجَّتِكَ عَلٰى خَلْقِكَ

BE-FARAJE WALIYYEKA WA HUJJATEKA A’LAA KHALQEKA

with the relief of Your representative and Your Proof over Your creation,

فَاَخْرِجْ اِلَيْنَاۤ اٰيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِكَ نَسْتَدِلُّ بِهَا عَلٰى ذٰلِكَ.

FA-AKHRIJ ELAYNAA AAYATAN MIN KETAABEKA NASTADILLO BEHAA A’LAA ZAALEKA.

then bring forth to us a sign from Your Book by which we may find evidence of that.

You may then open the copy of the Holy Qur’an, count six pages, count six lines of the seventh page, and see what is written therein.”
