Merits
It is mentioned in Falah al-Sa'il (Sayyid Ibn Tawus) among the important supplications to be recited after the Asr (afternoon) prayer, following the example of Imam Musa ibn Ja'far al-Kazim (a.s.) in his supplication dedicated to Imam al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s.).
Yahya ibn al-Fadl al-Nawfali narrates: I entered upon Abu al-Hasan Musa ibn Ja'far (a.s.) in Baghdad as he finished the Asr prayer. He raised his hands towards the heavens and I heard him recite this supplication.
Yahya said: I asked, "Who is the one being prayed for?" He replied, "That is al-Mahdi from the family of Muhammad (s.a.w.a.)." Then he said: "May my father be sacrificed for him - of wide belly, joined eyebrows, slender shins, broad shoulders and a wheat-coloured complexion, tinged with a pallor from staying awake at night. May my father be sacrificed for the one who spends his nights watching the stars, prostrating and bowing. May my father be sacrificed for the one who, in the way of Allah, fears no blame of any blamer - the lamp in the darkness. May my father be sacrificed for the one who will rise by the command of Allah."
Text and Translation
اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ الْاَوَّلُ وَالْاٰخِرُ وَالظَّاهِرُ وَالْبَاطِنُ
ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTAL AWWALO WAL AAKHERO WAZ ZAAHERO WAL BAATENO
You are Allah, there is no god but You, the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden.
وَاَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ اِلَيْكَ زِيَادَةُ الْاَشْيَاۤءِ وَنُقْصَانُهَا
WA ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA ELAYKA ZEYAADATUL ASHYAAA-E WA NUQSAANOHAA
And You are Allah, there is no god but You; to You belongs the increase of all things and their decrease.
وَاَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ خَلَقْتَ خَلْقَكَ بِغَيْرِ مَعُوْنَةٍ مِّنْ غَيْرِكَ وَلَا حَاجَةٍ اِلَيْهِمْ
WA ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA KHALAQTA KHALQAKA BE-GHAYRE MA-O'NATIM MIN GHAYREKA WA LAA HAAJATIN ELAYHIM
And You are Allah, there is no god but You; You created Your creation without help from anyone other than You, and without any need of them.
وَاَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ مِنْكَ الْمَشِيَّةُ وَاِلَيْكَ الْبَدَاۤءُ
WA ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA MINKAL MASHIYYATO WA ELAYKAL BADAAA-O
And You are Allah, there is no god but You; from You is the Will, and to You belongs the change of decree (bada').
اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ قَبْلَ الْقَبْلِ وَخَالِقُ الْقَبْلِ
ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA QABLAL QABLE WA KHAALEQUL QABLE
You are Allah, there is no god but You; before all that is before, and the Creator of the before.
وَاَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ بَعْدَ الْبَعْدِ وَخَالِقُ الْبَعْدِ
WA ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA BA'DAL BA'DE WA KHAALEQUL BA'DE
And You are Allah, there is no god but You; after all that is after, and the Creator of the after.
اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ تَمْحُوْ مَا تَشَاۤءُ وَتُثْبِتُ وَعِنْدَكَ اُمُّ الْكِتَابِ
ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA TAMHOO MAA TASHAAA-O WA TUSBETO WA I'NDAKA UMMUL KETAABE
You are Allah, there is no god but You; You erase what You will and You confirm, and with You is the Mother of the Book.
اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ غَايَةُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَّوَارِثُهٗ
ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA GHAAYATO KULLE SHAY-IW WA WAARESOHU
You are Allah, there is no god but You; the End of every thing and its Inheritor.
اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ لَا يَعْزُبُ عَنْكَ الدَّقِيْقُ وَلَا الْجَلِيْلُ
ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA LAA YA'ZOBO A'NKAD DAQEEQO WA LAL JALEELO
You are Allah, there is no god but You; nothing escapes You, neither the minute nor the great.
اَنْتَ اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ لَا تَخْفٰى عَلَيْكَ اللُّغَاتُ وَلَا تَتَشَابَهُ عَلَيْكَ الْاَصْوَاتُ
ANTAL LAAHO LAAA ELAAHA ILLAAA ANTA LAA TAKHFAA A'LAYKAL LOGHAATO WA LAA TATASHAABAHO A'LAYKAL ASWAATO
You are Allah, there is no god but You; no language is hidden from You, and no voices are confused for You.
كُلَّ يَوْمٍ اَنْتَ فِيْ شَاْنٍ لَا يَشْغَلُكَ شَاْنٌ عَنْ شَاْنٍ
KULLA YAWMIN ANTA FEE SHAANIL LAA YASHGHALOKA SHAANUN A'N SHAANIN
Every day You are in a (new) affair; no affair distracts You from another affair.
عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَاَخْفٰى دَيَّانُ يَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ مُدَبِّرُ الْاُمُوْرِ
A'ALEMUL GHAYBE WA AKHFAA DAYYAANO YAWMID DEENE MODABBERUL OMOORE
Knower of the unseen and what is more hidden, Judge of the Day of Judgment, Disposer of all affairs,
بَاعِثُ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُوْرِ مُحْيِي الْعِظَامِ وَهِيَ رَمِيْمٌ
BAA-E'SO MAN FIL QOBOORE MOHYIL E'ZAAME WA HEYA RAMEEMUN
Resurrector of those in the graves, Giver of life to the bones when they have decayed.
اَسْاَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الْمَكْنُوْنِ الْمَخْزُوْنِ الْحَيِّ الْقَيُّوْمِ الَّذِيْ لَا يَخِيْبُ مَنْ سَاَلَكَ بِهٖ
AS-ALOKA BISMEKAL MAKNOONIL MAKHZOONIL HAYYIL QAYYOOMIL LAZEE LAA YAKHEEBO MAN SA-ALAKA BEHI
I ask You by Your hidden, treasured Name, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, by which no one who asks You is ever disappointed,
اَسْاَلُكَ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
AS-ALOKA AN TOSALLEYA A'LAA MOHAMMADIW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN
I ask You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَاَنْ تُعَجِّلَ فَرَجَ الْمُنْتَقِمِ لَكَ مِنْ اَعْدَاۤئِكَ
WA AN TO-A'JJELA FARAJAL MUNTAQEME LAKA MIN A-A'DAAA-EKA
and to hasten the relief of the one who will take vengeance for You upon Your enemies,
وَاَنْجِزْ لَهٗ مَا وَعَدْتَّهٗ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ
WA ANJIZ LAHU MAA WA-A'TTAHU YAA ZAL JALAALE WAL IKRAAME
and fulfil for him what You have promised him, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour.
