Merits
Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) reported that Amir al-Mu'minin (a.s.) said: 'Whoever says these words before commencing a ritual prayer will be gathered with Muhammad and his Household.'
Text and Translation
Before commencing a ritual prayer, the following supplication may be said:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْۤ اَتَوَجَّهُ اِلَيْكَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اَقَدِّمُهُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ صَلَاتِيْ وَ اَتَقَرَّبُ بِهِمْ اِلَيْكَ
ALLAAHUMMA INNEE ATAWAJJAHU ILAYKA BI-MUHAMMADIN WA AALI MUHAMMAD, WA UQADDIMUHUM BAYNA YADAY SALAATEE WA ATAQARRABU BIHIM ILAYK
O Allah, I turn towards You through Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and place them before my prayer, and seek nearness to You through them.
فَاجْعَلْنِيْ بِهِمْ وَجِيْهًا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْاٰخِرَةِ وَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ
FAJ-A'LNEE BIHIM WAJEEHAN FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHIRATI WA MINAL MUQARRABEEN
So make me, through them, distinguished in this world and the Hereafter, and of those brought near to You.
مَنَنْتَ عَلَيَّ بِمَعْرِفَتِهِمْ فَاخْتِمْ لِيْ بِطَاعَتِهِمْ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهِمْ وَ وِلَايَتِهِمْ فَاِنَّهَا السَّعَادَةُ
MANANTA A'LAYYA BI-MA'RIFATIHIM FAKHTIM LEE BI-TAA'ATIHIM WA MA'RIFATIHIM WA WILAAYATIHIM FA-INNAHAS SA'AADAH
You have favored me with knowing them, so seal my life with obedience to them, knowledge of them, and loyalty to them, for that is true felicity.
