Aamaal of the Day of Arafah (9th Zilhajj)

Text and Translation

The devotional acts on this day are as follows:

First: It is recommended to perform bathing on this day.

Second: It is recommended to visit the holy tomb of Imam Husayn (a.s.), for its reward is equal to the reward of one thousand times of Hajj, one thousand times of Umrah, and one thousand times of jihad (holy war), and even more. The narrations entailing the great merits and rewards of visiting the holy tomb of Imam Husayn (a.s.) on the ninth of Zilhajj have been uninterruptedly reported. If fact, the reward of visiting the holy tomb of Imam Husayn (a.s.) and having the honor of attending therein is not less than the reward of attending on Mount Arafah and even more.

The form of Ziyarah on this day will be cited in the section of Ziyarat.

Third: It is recommended to offer a two unit prayer immediately after the obligatory Asr Prayer before saying the supplicatory prayers of Arafah. This prayer should be offered outdoors and it should include confessions of sins. One who offers this prayer will be granted the reward of attending on Mount Arafah and having all sins forgiven.

After this prayer, it is recommended to begin with the acts and supplications of the Arafah Day that are reported from the Holy Infallibles (a.s.). Although these acts and supplications are too numerous to be mentioned here. Some of them are:

In al-Misbah, al-Kaf’ami says that it is recommended to observe fasting on the Arafah Day, unless fasting prevents from saying the supplications. It is also recommended to bathe oneself before midday (zohr) and to visit the holy tomb of Imam Husayn (a.s.) on day and night. At midday (zohr), it is recommended to leave one’s house and offer the obligatory Zohr and Asr prayers outdoors with complete performance of their parts. After accomplishment, it is recommended to offer a two unit prayer reciting [Surah al-Faatehah](A5) and [Surah al-Tawheed](A116) in the first unit and [Surah al-Faatehah](A5) and [Surah al-Kaferun](A113) in the second. After that, it is recommended to offer a four unit prayer reciting at each unit [Surah al-Faatehah](A5) once and repeating [Surah al-Tawheed](A116) fifty times.

This is in fact the prayer of Imam Ali Ameer al-Momineen (a.s.) that has been already mentioned within the rites of Fridays.

In Iqbal al-Aamaal, Sayyid Ibn Taaoos says:

Say the following doxology (zikr) that is reported from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.):

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ فِی السَّمَآءِ عَرْشُہٗ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE FIS SAMAAA-E A’RSHOHU

Glory be to the One Whose Throne is in the heaven;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ فِی الْاَرْضِ حُکْمُہٗ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE FIL ARZE HUKMOHU

Glory be to the One Whose authority is in the earth;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ فِیْ الْقُبُوْرِ قَضَاوُہٗ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE FIL QOBOORE QAZAA-OHU

Glory be to the One Whose decree is in the graves;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ فِی الْبَحْرِ سَبِیْلُہٗ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE FIL BAHRE SABEELOHU

Glory be to the One Whose path is in the sea;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ فِی النَّارِ سُلْطَانُہٗ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE FIN NAARE SULTAANOHU

Glory be to the One Whose dominion is in the Fire;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ فِی الْجَنَّۃِ رَحْمَتُہٗ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE FIL JANNATE RAHMATOHU

Glory be to the One Whose mercy is in Paradise;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ فِی الْقِیَامَۃِ عَدْلُہٗ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE FIL QEYAAMATE A’DLOHU

Glory be to the One Whose justice is in the Resurrection;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ رَفَعَ السَّمَآءَ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE RAFA-A’S SAMAAA-A

Glory be to the One Who raised the heaven;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ بَسَطَ الْاَرْضَ

SUBHAANAL LAZEE BASATAL ARZA

Glory be to the One Who spread the earth;

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِیْ مَلْجَاَ وَلَامَنْجَا مِنْهُ اِلَّا اِلَیْهِ.

SUBHAANAL LAZEE MALJA-A WA LAA MANJAA MINHO ILLAA ELAYHE.

Glory be to the One from Whom there is no shelter nor escape except toward Him.

Then, repeat the following doxology (zikr) one hundred times:

سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ

SUBHAANAL LAAHE WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE

Glory be to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah,

وَلَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَاللّٰهُ اَكْبَرُ.

WA LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO WAL LAAHO AKBARO.

and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.

Then, repeat [Surah al-Tawheed](A116) one hundred times, Ayah al-Kursi one hundred times, and invoke blessings upon Muhammad and his Household one hundred times.

Then say 100 times:

لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَہٗ لَا شَرِیْكَ لَہٗ

LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO WAHDAHU LAA SHAREEKA LAHU

There is no god but Allah, alone without partner;

لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ یُحْیِیْ وَیُمِیْتُ

LAHUL MULKO WA LAHUL HAMDO YOHYEE WA YOMEETO

to Him belongs the kingdom and to Him belongs the praise; He gives life and He causes death,

وَیُمِیْتُ وَیُحْیِیْ وَهُوَ حَیٌّ لَا یَمُوْتُ

WA YOMEETO WA YOHYEE WA HOWA HAYYUN LAA YAMOOTO

and He causes death and He gives life; and He is the Ever-Living who does not die;

بِیَدِهِ الْخَیْرُ وَهُوْ عَلٰی کُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرٌ.

BEYADEHIL KHAYRO WA HOWA A’LAA KULLE SHAYIN QADEER.

in His hand is all good, and He has power over all things.

Then, repeat the following doxological and supplicatory statements ten times each:

اَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ الَّذِیْ لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا هُوَ الْحَیُّ الْقَیُّوْمُ وَاَتُوْبُ اِلَیْهِ.

ASTAGHFERUL LAAHAL LAZEE LAA ELAAHA ILLAA HOWAL HAYYUL QAYYOOMO WA ATOOBO ELAYHE.

I seek forgiveness from Allah, there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I turn to Him in repentance.

يَا اَللهُ

YAA ALLAAHO

O Allah

يَا رَحْمٰنُ

YAA RAHMAANO

O All-Beneficent

يَا رَحِيْمُ

YAA RAHEEMO

O All-Merciful

يَا بَدِيْعَ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ

YAA BADEE-A’S SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZ

O Originator of the heavens and the earth

یَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ

YAA ZAL JALAALE WAL IKRAAM

O Lord of Majesty and Honor

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّوْمُ

YAA HAYYO YAA QAYYOOM

O Ever-Living, O Sustainer

يَا حَنَّانُ يَا مَنَّانُ

YAA HANNAANO YAA MANNAAN

O All-Affectionate, O Bestower of Favors

يَا لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

YAA LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANT

O You besides Whom there is no god

اٰمِيْنَ.

AAMEEN.

Amen.

Then, say the following:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَسْئَلُكَ یَا مَنْ هُوَ اَقْرَبُ اِلَیَّ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِیْدِ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS-ALOKA YAA MAN HOWA AQRABO ELAYYA MIN HABLIL WAREEDE

O Allah, I ask You, O He who is closer to me than my jugular vein;

یَا مَنْ یَحُوْلُ بَیْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِہٖ

YAA MAN YAHOOLO BAYNAL MAR-E WA QALBEHI

O He who comes between a man and his heart;

یَا مَنْ هُوْ بِالْمَنْظَرِ الْاَعْلَی وَبِالْاُفُقِ الْمُبِیْنِ

YAA MAN HOWA BIL-MANZARIL A-A’LAA WA BIL-OFOQIL MOBEENE

O He who is in the highest vantage point and at the clear horizon;

یَا مَنْ هُوَ الرَّحْمٰنُ عَلَی الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوٰی

YAA MAN HOWAR RAHMAANO A’LAL A’RSHIS TAWAA

O He who is the All-Beneficent, established upon the Throne;

یَا مَنْ لَیْسَ كَمِثْلِہٖ شَیْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِیْعُ الْبَصِیْرُ

YAA MAN LAYSA KAMISLEHI SHAY-UN WA HOWAS SAMEE-U’L BASEER

O He whom nothing is like, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing;

اَسْئَلُكَ اَنْ تُصَلِّیَ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ.

AS-ALOKA AN TOSALLEYA A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN.

I ask You to bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

The, submit your needs and they will be granted, by the permission of Almighty Allah.

You may then say the following supplicatory prayer that is reported from Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) who said: If you wish to please Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad - peace be upon them all - you may say the following invocation:

اَللّٰهُمَّ یَا اَجْوَدَ مَنْ اَعْطٰی

ALLAAHUMMA YAA AJWADA MAN A-A’TAA

O Allah, O most Generous of those who give,

وَیَا خَیْرَ مَنْ سُئِلَ

WA YAA KHAYRA MAN SO-ELA

O Best of those who are asked,

وَیَا اَرْحَمَ مَنِ اسْتُرْحِمَ

WA YAA ARHAMA MANIS TURHEMA

and O most Merciful of those from whom mercy is sought.

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِہٖ فِی الْاَوَّلِیْنَ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALEHI FIL AWWALEENA

O Allah, bless Muhammad and his family among the first generations,

وَصَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِہٖ فِی الْآخِرِیْنَ

WA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALEHI FIL AAKHEREENA

and bless Muhammad and his family among the latter generations,

وَصَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِہٖ فِی الْمَلَاءِ الْاَعلٰی

WA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALEHI FIL MALAA-IL A-A’LAA

and bless Muhammad and his family in the highest assembly,

وَصَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِہٖ فِی الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ

WA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALEHI FIL MURSALEENA

and bless Muhammad and his family among the messengers.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَعْطِ مُحَمَّدًا وَآلِهِ الْوَسِیْلَۃَ الْفَضِیْلَۃَ

ALLAAHUMMA A-A’TE MOHAMMADAN WA AALEHIL WASEELATAL FAZEELATA

O Allah, grant Muhammad and his family the right of mediation, the excellence,

وَالشَّرَفَ وَالرِّفْعَۃَ وَالدَّرَجَۃَ الْكَبِیْرَۃَ

WASH SHARAFA WAR RIF-A’TA WAD DARAJATAL KABEERATA

the honor, the eminence, and the great station.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّی اٰمَنْتُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَآلِہٖ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AAMANTO BE-MOHAMMADIN SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI

O Allah, I have believed in Muhammad—blessings of Allah be upon him and his family—

وَلَمْ اَرَہٗ فَلَا تَحْرِمْنِیْ فِی الْقِیَامَۃِ رُؤْیَتَہٗ

WA LAM ARAHU FALAA TAHRIMNEE FIL QEYAAMATE ROAYATAHU

though I have not seen him, so do not deprive me of his vision on the Day of Resurrection;

وَارْزُقْنِیْ صُحْبَتَہٗ وَتَوَفَّنِیْ عَلٰی مِلَّتِہٖ

WAR ZUQNEE SOHBATAHU WA TAWAFFANEE A’LAA MILLATEHI

grant me his companionship, cause me to die upon his creed,

وَاسْقِنِیْ مِنْ حَوْضِہٖ مَشْرَبًا

WAS QENEE MIN HAWZEHI MASHRABAN

and give me to drink from his fountain a drink

رَوِیًّا سَآئِغًا هَنِیْٓئًا لَا اَظْمَاُ بَعْدَہٗ اَبَدًا

RAWIYYAN SAAA-EGHAN HANEE-AN LAA AZMA-O BA’DAHU ABADAN

that is quenching, easy to swallow, and pleasant, after which I shall never thirst again.

اِنَّكَ عَلٰی کُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرٌ

INNAKA A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN QADEER

Indeed, You have power over all things.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّی اٰمَنْتُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّی اَللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَآلِہٖ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AAMANTO BE-MOHAMMADIN SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI

O Allah, I have believed in Muhammad—blessings of Allah be upon him and his family—

وَلَمْ اَرَہٗ فَعَرِّفْنِیْ فِی الْجِنَانِ وَجْهَہٗ

WA LAM ARAHO FA-A’RRIFNEE FIL JENAANE WAJHAHU

though I have not seen him, so make his face known to me in the gardens of Paradise.

اَللّٰهُمَّ بَلِّغْ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّی اَللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَآلِہٖ

ALLAAHUMMA BALLIGH MOHAMMADAN SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI

O Allah, convey to Muhammad—blessings of Allah be upon him and his family—

مِنِّیْ تَحِیَّۃً كَثِیْرَۃً وَسَلَامًا.

MINNEE TAHIYYATAN KASEERATAN WA SALAAMAA.

abundant greetings and peace from me.

You may then say the famous supplicatory prayer known as Dua Umm-e-Dawood, which has been previously cited within the devotional acts of Rajab.

You may then say the following doxology (zikr) whose reward is too much to be mentioned:

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ قَبْلَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

SUBHAANAL LAAHE QABLA KULLE AHADIN

Glory be to Allah before everyone,

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ بَعْدَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE BA’DA KULLE AHADIN

and Glory be to Allah after everyone,

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ مَعَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE MA-A’ KULLE AHADIN

and Glory be to Allah with everyone.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ یَبْقٰی رَبُّنَا وَیَفْنٰی کُلُّ اَحَدٍ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE YABQAA RABBONAA WA YAFNAA KULLO AHADIN

Glory be to Allah; our Lord remains while everyone perishes.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا قَبْلَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA FAZLAN KASEERAN QABLA KULLE AHADIN

Glory be to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him by a great excellence before everyone.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا بَعْدَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA FAZLAN KASEERAN BA’DA KULLE AHADIN

Glory be to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him by a great excellence after everyone.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا مَعَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA FAZLAN KASEERAN MA-A’ KULLE AHADIN

Glory be to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him by a great excellence with everyone.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA

Glory be to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him

فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا لِرَبِّنَا الْبَاقِیْ وَیَفْنٰی کُلُّ اَحَدٍ

FAZLAN KASEERAN LE-RABBENAL BAAQEE WA YAFNAA KULLO AHADIN

by a great excellence for our Lord who remains while everyone perishes.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ تَسْبِیْحًا لَا یُحْصٰی وَلَا یُدْرٰی

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE TASBEEHAN LAA YOHSAA WA LAA YUDRAA

Glory be to Allah with a glorification that cannot be numbered, nor perceived,

وَلَا یُنْسٰی وَلَا یَبْلٰی وَلَا یَفْنٰی وَلَیْسَ لَہٗ مُنْتَہٰی

WA LAA YUNSAA WA LAA YABLAA WA LAA YAFNAA WA LAYSA LAHU MUNTAHAA

nor forgotten, nor worn out, nor exhausted, and for which there is no end.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَدُوْمُ بِدَوَامِہٖ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE TASBEEHAN YADOOMO BE-DAWAAMEHI

Glory be to Allah with a glorification that lasts with His everlastingness

وَیَبْقٰی بِبَقَآئِہٖ فِیْ سِنِی الْعَالَمِیْنَ

WA YABQAA BE-BAQAAA-EHI FEE SENIL A’ALAMEENA

and remains with His subsistence throughout the years of the worlds,

وَشُهُوْرِ الدُّهُوْرِ وَاَیَّامِ الدُّنْیَا وَسَاعَاتِ اللَّیْلِ وَالنَّہَارِ.

WA SHOHOORID DOHOORE WA AYYAAMID DUNYAA WA SAA-A’ATIL LAYLE WAN NAHAARE.

the months of the ages, the days of the world, and the hours of the night and the day.

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ اَبَدَا الْاَبَدِ وَمَعَ الْاَبَدِ مِمَّا لَا یُحْصِیْهِ الْعَدَدُ

WA SUBHAANAL LAAHE ABADAL ABADE WA MA-A’L ABADE MIMMAA LAA YOHSEEHIL A’DADO

Glory be to Allah forever and ever, and alongside eternity—a glorification that numbers cannot count,

وَلَا یُفْنِیْهِ الْاَمَدُ وَلَا یَقْطَعُهُ الْاَبَدُ

WA LAA YUFNEEHIL AMADO WA LAA YAQTA-O’HUL ABADO

that time cannot exhaust, and that eternity cannot terminate.

وَتَبَارَكَ اللهُ اَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِیْنَ.

WA TABAARAKAL LAAHO AHSANUL KHAALEQEEN.

And Blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ قَبْلَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE QABLA KULLE AHADIN

And all praise is due to Allah before everyone,

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ بَعْدَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE BA’DA KULLE AHADIN

and all praise is due to Allah after everyone,

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ مَعَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE MA-A’ KULLE AHADIN

and all praise is due to Allah with everyone.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ یَبْقٰی رَبُّنَا وَیَفْنٰی کُلُّ اَحَدٍ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE YABQAA RABBONAA WA YAFNAA KULLO AHADIN

All praise is due to Allah; our Lord remains while everyone perishes.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA

All praise is due to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him

فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا قَبْلَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

FAZLAN KASEERAN QABLA KULLE AHADIN

by a great excellence before everyone.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA

All praise is due to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him

فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا بَعْدَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

FAZLAN KASEERAN BA’DA KULLE AHADIN

by a great excellence after everyone.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA

All praise is due to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him

فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا مَعَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

FAZLAN KASEERAN MA-A’ KULLE AHADIN

by a great excellence with everyone.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA

All praise is due to Allah with a glorification that excels the glorification of those who glorify Him

فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا لِرَبِّنَا الْبَاقِیْ وَیَفْنٰی کُلُّ اَحَدٍ

FAZLAN KASEERAN LE-RABBENAL BAAQEE WA YAFNAA KULLO AHADIN

by a great excellence for our Lord who remains while everyone perishes.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ تَسْبِیْحًا لَا یُحْصٰی وَلَا یُدْرٰی

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE TASBEEHAN LAA YOHSAA WA LAA YUDRAA

All praise is due to Allah with a glorification that cannot be numbered, nor perceived,

وَلَا یُنْسٰی وَلَا یَبْلٰی وَلَا یَفْنٰی وَلَیْسَ لَہٗ مُنْتَہٰی

WA LAA YUNSAA WA LAA YABLAA WA LAA YAFNAA WA LAYSA LAHU MUNTAHAA

nor forgotten, nor worn out, nor exhausted, and for which there is no end.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ تَسْبِیْحًا یَدُوْمُ بِدَوَامِہٖ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE TASBEEHAN YADOOMO BE-DAWAAMEHI

All praise is due to Allah with a glorification that lasts with His everlastingness

وَیَبْقٰی بِبَقَآئِہٖ فِیْ سِنِی الْعَالَمِیْنَ

WA YABQAA BE-BAQAAA-EHI FEE SENIL A’ALAMEENA

and remains with His subsistence throughout the years of the worlds,

وَشُهُوْرِ الدُّهُوْرِ وَاَیَّامِ الدُّنْیَا وَسَاعَاتِ اللَّیْلِ وَالنَّہَارِ.

WA SHOHOORID DOHOORE WA AYYAAMID DUNYAA WA SAA-A’ATIL LAYLE WAN NAHAARE.

the months of the ages, the days of the world, and the hours of the night and the day.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ اَبَدَا الْاَبَدِ وَمَعَ الْاَبَدِ مِمَّا لَا یُحْصِیْهِ الْعَدَدُ

WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE ABADAL ABADE WA MA-A’L ABADE MIMMAA LAA YOHSEEHIL A’DADO

All praise is due to Allah forever and ever, and alongside eternity—a glorification that numbers cannot count,

وَلَا یُفْنِیْهِ الْاَمَدُ وَلَا یَقْطَعُہُ الْاَبَدُ

WA LAA YUFNEEHIL AMADO WA LAA YAQTA-O’HUL ABADO

that time cannot exhaust, and that eternity cannot terminate.

وَتَبَارَكَ اللهُ اَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِیْنَ.

WA TABAARAKAL LAAHO AHSANUL KHAALEQEEN.

And Blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators.

وَلَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللهُ قَبْلَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO QABLA KULLE AHADIN

And there is no god but Allah before everyone,

وَلَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللهُ بَعْدَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO BA’DA KULLE AHADIN

and there is no god but Allah after everyone,

وَلَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللهُ مَعَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WA LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO MA-A’ KULLE AHADIN

and there is no god but Allah with everyone.

وَلَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللهُ یَبْقٰی رَبُّنَا وَیَفْنٰی کُلُّ اَحَدٍ

WA LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO YABQAA RABBONAA WA YAFNAA KULLO AHADIN

There is no god but Allah; our Lord remains while everyone perishes.

وَلَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللهُ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ

WA LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO TASBEEHAN YAFZOLO TASBEEHAL MOSABBEHEENA

فَضْلًا كَثِیْرًا لِرَبِّنَا الْبَاقِیْ وَیَفْنٰی کُلُّ اَحَدٍ

FAZLAN KASEERAN LE-RABBENAL BAAQEE WA YAFNAA KULLO AHADIN

by a great excellence for our Lord who remains while everyone perishes.

وَلَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللهُ تَسْبِیْحًا لَا یُحْصٰی وَلَا یُدْرٰی

WA LAA ELAAHA ILLAL LAAHO TASBEEHAN LAA YOHSAA WA LAA YUDRAA

There is no god but Allah with a glorification that cannot be numbered, nor perceived,

وَلَا یُنْسٰی وَلَا یَبْلٰی وَلَا یَفْنٰی وَلَیْسَ لَہٗ مُنْتَہٰی

WA LAA YUNSAA WA LAA YABLAA WA LAA YAFNAA WA LAYSA LAHU MUNTAHAA

And Blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators.

And Allah is the Greatest before everyone,

وَاللهُ اَکْبَرُ بَعْدَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

and Allah is the Greatest after everyone,

وَاللهُ اَکْبَرُ مَعَ کُلِّ اَحَدٍ

WAL LAAHO AKBARO MA-A’ KULLE AHADIN

and Allah is the Greatest with everyone.

وَاللهُ اَکْبَرُ یَبْقٰی رَبُّنَا وَیَفْنٰی کُلُّ اَحَدٍ

WAL LAAHO AKBARO YABQAA RABBONAA WA YAFNAA KULLO AHADIN

Allah is the Greatest; our Lord remains while everyone perishes.

وَاللهُ اَکْبَرُ تَسْبِیْحًا یَفْضُلُ تَسْبِیْحَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ

Allah is the Greatest forever and ever,

مِمَّا لَا یُحْصِیْهِ الْعَدَدُ وَلَا یُفْنِیْهِ الْاَمَدُ وَلَا یَقْطَعُہُ الْاَبَدُ

MIMMAA LAA YOHSEEHIL A’DADO WA LAA YUFNEEHIL AMADO WA LAA YAQTA-O’HUL ABADO

and alongside eternity—a glorification that numbers cannot count, that time cannot exhaust, and that eternity cannot terminate.

وَتَبَارَكَ اللهُ اَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِیْنَ.

WA TABAARAKAL LAAHO AHSANUL KHAALEQEEN.

And Blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators.

You may then say the famous supplicatory prayer, which begins with the following statement: ['Allaahumma Man Ta-a'bba-a'](AC10)

This supplicatory prayer has been previously mentioned within the rites at Friday nights.

You may then say the supplicatory prayer that has been mentioned by Shaykh al-Tusi in Misbah al-Mutahajjid. It is ascribed to Imam Zayn al-Aabedin (a.s.) and it begins with the following statement ‘allaahumma antal laaho rabbul a’alameen’ and is mentioned in the book ‘Mazaar al-Kabeer, p. 445’.

It is worth mentioning that this supplicatory prayer, which has not been cited herein because of its lengthiness, is also advisably said during the ritual of al-wuqoof al-Arafah (Halting At Mount Arafah), which is one of the rituals of Hajj.

It is also highly advisable to say the forty-seventh supplication of Saheefah al-Kaamelah al-Sajjaadiyyah. It is recommended to say the supplicatory prayer, which comprises all the requirements of worldly and religious life, with reverence.

Many supplicatory prayers and acts of worship are reported to be done on this day for those who have the honor of being present on Mount Arafah. However, the best deed on this day is to pray Almighty Allah, since the most distinctive feature of the Arafah Day is praying. It is thus advisable to pray Him for the good of one’s brethren and sisters, the alive and the dead. The narration that has reported the manner of Abdullah ibn Jundab - may Allah have mercy upon him - during the ritual of halting on Mount Arafah when he prayed Almighty Allah for the good of his brethren-in-faith is too famous to be denied. Similarly, Zayd al-Narsi has reported that Mu’awiyah ibn Wahab - the dignified, trustworthy scholar - prayed Almighty Allah for the good of his brethren-in-faith in names during the ritual of the halting at Mount Arafah on the Arafah Day. He then reported that Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) mentioned a great merit for anyone who prays for the good of his brethren-in-faith on Mount Arafah on the ninth of Zilhajj. In fact, this narration is worth ponderation and consideration.

Seizing this opportunity, I do please my faithful brethren to imitate such great personalities and thus pray for the good of their brethren-in-faith before they pray for themselves and to include me with their brethren-in-faith. I thus please you not to forget me in your prayers in my life and after my death since my face has been blackened by my sins.

It is also recommended to say the third comprehensive Ziyarah ([Ziyaarah al-Jaame’ah](AC13)).

At the last hour of the Arafah Day, it is recommended to say the following:

يَا رَبِّ اِنَّ ذُنُوْبِيْ لَا تَضُرُّكَ

YAA RABBE INNA ZONOOBEE LAA TAZURROKA

O my Lord, indeed my sins do not harm You,

وَاِنَّ مَغْفِرَتَكَ لِيْ لَا تَنْقُصُكَ

WA INNA MAGHFERATAKA LEE LAA TANQOSOKA

and indeed Your forgiveness of me does not diminish You.

فَاَعْطِنِيْ مَا لَا يَنْقُصُكَ

FA-A-A’TENEE MAA LAA YANQOSOKA

So grant me that which does not diminish You,

وَاغْفِرْ لِيْ مَا لَا يَضُرُّكَ

WAGH FIR LEE MAA LAA YAZURROKA

and forgive me for that which does not harm You.

It is also recommended to say the following:

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تَحْرِمْنِيْ خَيْرَ مَا عِنْدَكَ

ALLAAHUMMA LAA TAHRIMNEE KHAYRA MAA I’NDAKA

O Allah, do not deprive me of the good that is with You

لِشَرِّ مَا عِنْدِيْ

LE-SHARRE MAA I’NDEE

because of the evil that is with me.

فَاِنْ اَنْتَ لَمْ تَرْحَمْنِيْ بِتَعَبِيْ وَنَصَبِيْ

FA-IN ANTA LAM TAHRIMNEE BE-TA-A’BEE WA NASABEE

So if You do not have mercy upon me for my fatigue and my toil,

فَلَا تَحْرِمْنِيْۤ اَجْرَ الْمُصَابِ عَلٰى مُصِيْبَتِهٖ

FA LAA TAHRIMNEE AJRAL MOSAABE A’LAA MOSEEBATEHI

then do not deprive me of the reward of the afflicted one for his affliction.

Within the supplicatory prayers on the Arafah Day, Sayyid Ibn Tawus has advised that immediately before sunset, one may say Dua al-Asharaat that has been previously cited. Accordingly, it is important not to neglect Dua al-Asharaat at the end of the Arafah Day since it is recommended to say this supplicatory prayer each morning and evening.

It is worth mentioning that the supplicatory prayers that are mentioned by al-Kaf’ami, as well as Sayyid Ibn Taaoos, are the same as the ones with which Dua al-Asharaat ends.
