A famous Dua for Sustenance

Text and Translation

Mu'awiyah ibn 'Ammar reported: I asked Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) to teach me a supplication for more sustenance. He taught me this supplication, which I have never seen anything more effective than.

اَللّٰهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِيْ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْوَاسِعِ

ALLAAHUMMARZUQNEE MIN FAZLEKAL WAASE

O Allah, provide me out of Your all-inclusive,

الْحَلَالِ الطَّيِّبِ

AL HALAALIT TAYYEB

legal, and pleasant sustenance

رِزْقًا وَاسِعًا

RIZQAN WAASE-AA

with sustenance that is expansive,

حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا

HALAALAN TAYYEBAA

legally gotten, pleasant,

بَلَاغًا لِلدُّنْيَا وَ الْاٰخِرَةِ

BALAAGHAL LID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERAH

covering all this-worldly and other-worldly demands,

صَبًّا صَبًّا

SABBAN SABBAA

pouring, torrential,

هَنِيْئًا مَرِيْئًا

HANEE-AN MAREE-AA

enjoyable, and wholesome,

مِنْ غَيْرِ كَدٍّ

MIN GHAYRE KADDIN

without exhaustive toil,

وَ لَا مَنٍّ مِّنْ اَحَدٍ مِّنْ خَلْقِكَ

WA LAA MANNIM MIN AHADIM MIN KHALQEKA

and without the favor of any of Your creatures;

اِلَّا سَعَةً مِّنْ فَضْلِكَ الْوَاسِعِ

ILLAA SA-ATAM MIN FAZLEKAL WAASE

rather, with an abundance out of Your all-inclusive favors.

فَاِنَّكَ قُلْتَ وَاسْاَلُوا اللّٰهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ

FA-INNAKA QULTA WAS-ALUL LAAHA MIN FAZLEHI

for You have said, "Ask Allah of His grace."

فَمِنْ فَضْلِكَ اَسْاَلُ

FAMIN FAZLEKA AS-ALO

Thus, from Your grace only do I ask,

وَ مِنْ عَطِيَّتِكَ اَسْاَلُ

WA MIN ATIYYATEKA AS-ALO

from Your gift only do I ask,

وَ مِنْ يَدِكَ الْمَلْاٰ اَسْاَلُ

WA MIN YADEKAL MAL-AA AS-ALO

and from Your abounding hand do I ask.
