Merits

This Surah was revealed in Makkah and has 8 verses. Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said the reward for reciting this Surah in prayers is a great palace in Jannah.

It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) that the reward given to the person who recites this Surah cannot be counted. If recited on food, its evil effects are removed. The one who recites this Surah is compared to the person who has visited the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and had his needs fulfilled by him.

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful

وَالتِّيْنِ وَالزَّيْتُوْنِۙ‏(1)

WAT TEENE WAZ ZAYTOONE.

By the fig and the olive,

وَطُوْرِ سِيْنِيْنَۙ‏(2)

WA TOORE SEENEENA

by Mount Sinai,

وَهٰذَا الْبَلَدِ الْاَمِيْنِۙ‏(3)

WA HAAZAL BALADIL AMEENE.

and by this secure town:

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ فِىْۤ اَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيْمٍ‏(4)

LAQAD KHALAQNAL INSAANA FEE AHSANE TAQWEEM.

We certainly created man in the best of forms;

ثُمَّ رَدَدْنٰهُ اَسْفَلَ سَافِلِيْنَۙ‏(5)

SUMMA RADADNAAHO ASFALA SAAFELEENA.

then We relegated him to the lowest of the low,

اِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَلَهُمْ اَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُوْنٍؕ‏(6)

ILLAL LAZEENA AAMANOO WA A’MELUS SAALEHAATE FA-LAHUM AJRUN GHAYRO MAMNOON.

except those who have faith and do righteous deeds. There will be an everlasting reward for them.

فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعْدُ بِالدِّيْنِ‏(7)

FAMAA YOKAZZEBOKA BA’DO BID-DEEN.

So what makes you deny the Retribution?

اَلَيْسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَحْكَمِ الْحٰكِمِيْنَ‏(8)

A LAYSAL LAAHO BE-AHKAMIL HAAKEMEEN.

Is not Allah the fairest of all judges?
