Merits
This Surah has 8 verses and it is ‘Makki’. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said that Allah (s.w.t.) grants good fortune and Yaqeen (certitude) in religion, to the person who recites this Surah.
Recitation of this Surah is also good for relieving chest pains. Drinking water in which this Surah has been dissolved is a cure for problems while urination and heart ailments.
Text and Translation
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate
اَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَۙ(1)
ALAM NASHRAH LAKA SADRAKA.
Have We not expanded thee thy breast?
وَوَضَعْنَا عَنْكَ وِزْرَكَۙ(2)
WA WAZA’NAA A’NKA WIZRAKAL.
And removed from thee thy burden
الَّذِىْۤ اَنْقَضَ ظَهْرَكَۙ(3)
LAZEE ANQAZA ZAHRAKA.
The which did gall thy back?
وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَؕ(4)
WA RA-FA’NAA LAKA ZIKRAK.
And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?
فَاِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ۙ(5)
FA-INNA MA-A’L U’SRE YUSRAN.
So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief:
اِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ؕ(6)
INNA MA-A’L U’SRE YUSRAA.
Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.
فَاِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانْصَبْۙ(7)
FA-EZAA FARAGHTA FAN-SAB.
Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,
وَاِلٰى رَبِّكَ فَارْغَب(8)
WA ELAA RABBEKA FAR-GHAB.
And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention.
