Merits
Surah al-Burooj (The Mansion Of Stars)
This ‘Makki’ Surah has 22 verses. It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) that the one who recites this Surah will be near the Prophets and Messengers on the Day of Judgement. The reward for reciting this Surah is ten times the number of people who gather on the plains of Arafah.
Reciting this Surah saves one from dangers and if recited before sleeping, one is kept under the protection of Allah (s.w.t.) for the whole night. When trying to wean a baby (stop it from breastfeeding and start eating solid foods), this Surah should be written and tied as a talisman around the baby’s neck.
Text and Translation
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate
وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوْجِۙ(1)
WAS SAMAAA-E ZAATIL BOROOJE.
By the sky, (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs;
وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُوْدِۙ(2)
WAL YAWMIL MAW-O’ODE.
By the promised Day (of Judgment);
وَشَاهِدٍ وَّمَشْهُوْدٍؕ(3)
WA SHAAHEDINW WA MASHHOOD.
By one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness;-
قُتِلَ اَصْحٰبُ الْاُخْدُوْدِۙ(4)
QOTELA ASHAABUL UKHDOODIN.
Woe to the makers of the pit (of fire),
النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُوْدِۙ(5)
NAARE ZAATIL WAQOODE.
Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel:
اِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُوْدٌ ۙ(6)
IZ HUM A’LAYHAA QO-O’ODUNW.
Behold! they sat over against the (fire),
وَّهُمْ عَلٰى مَا يَفْعَلُوْنَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ شُهُوْدٌ ؕ(7)
WA HUM A’LAA MAA YAF-A’LOONA BIL-MOA-MENEENA SHO-HOOD.
And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers.
وَمَا نَقَمُوْا مِنْهُمْ اِلَّاۤ اَنْ يُّؤْمِنُوْا بِاللّٰهِ الْعَزِيْزِ الْحَمِيْدِۙ(8)
WA MAA NAQAMOO MINHUM ILLAA AN-Y YOA-MENOO BIL-LAAHIL A’ZEEZIL HAMEEDIL.
And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!-
الَّذِىْ لَهٗ مُلْكُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِؕ وَ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيْدٌ ؕ(9)
LAZEE LAHOO MULKUS SAMAAWAATE WAL-ARZ, WAL LAAHO A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN SHAHEED.
Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness to all things.
اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوْبُوْا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيْقِؕ(10)
INNAL LAZEENA FATANUL MOA-MENEENA WAL MOAMENAATE SUMMA LAM YATOOBOO FALAHUM A’ZAABO JAHANNAMA WA LAHUM A’ZAABUL HAREEQ.
Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire.
اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنّٰتٌ تَجْرِىْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُ ؕؔ ذٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيْرُؕ(11)
INNAL LAAZEENA AAMANOO WA A’MELUS SAALEHAATE LAHUM JANNAATUN TAJREE MIN TAHTEHAL ANHAAR, ZAALEKAL FAWZUL KABEER.
For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires),
اِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيْدٌ ؕ(12)
INNA BATSHA RABBEKA LA-SHADEED.
Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord.
اِنَّهٗ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيْدُ ۚ(13)
INNAHU HOWA YUBDEO WA YO-E’ED.
It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life).
وَهُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الْوَدُوْدُۙ(14)
WA HOWAL GHAFOORUL WADOODO.
And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness,
ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيْدُ ۙ(15)
ZUL A’RSHIL MAJEEDO.
Lord of the Throne of Glory,
فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيْدُ ؕ(16)
FA’-A’ALUL LEMAA YOREED.
Doer (without let) of all that He intends.
هَلْ اَتٰٮكَ حَدِيْثُ الْجُنُوْدِۙ(17)
HAL ATAAKA HADEESUL JONOODE.
Has the story reached thee, of the forces-
فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُوْدَؕ(18)
FIR-A’WNA WA SAMOOD.
Of Pharaoh and the Thamud?
بَلِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا فِىْ تَكْذِيْبٍۙ(19)
BALIL LAZEENA KAFAROO FEE TAKZEEBINW.
And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)!
وَّاللّٰهُ مِنْ وَّرَآئِهِمْ مُّحِيْطٌۚ(20)
WAL LAAHO MINW WA-RAAA-EHIM MOHEET.
But Allah doth encompass them from behind!
بَلْ هُوَ قُرْاٰنٌ مَّجِيْدٌ ۙ(21)
BAL HOWA QURAANUM MAJEEDUN.
Nay, this is a Glorious Qur'an,
فِىْ لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوْظٍ(22)
FEE LAWHIM MAHFOOZ.
(Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved!
