Surah al-Infetaar (The Cleaving Asunder)

There are 19 verses in this Surah and it was revealed in Makkah. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said that if a person recites this Surah frequently in his prayers then on the Day of Judgement there will be no curtain between Allah (s.w.t.) and himself and when his book of deeds will be opened, Allah (s.w.t.) will protect him from humiliation.

If a prisoner writes this Surah and keeps it with him, he will be released sooner and he will be saved from any dangers. It is narrated from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a.s.) that even if the sins of the one who recites this Surah are equal to the drops of rain, he will still be forgiven. This Surah is also good for the eyes and one should blow gently into the eyes after reciting this Surah.

In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

EZAS SAMAAA-UN FATARAT.

When the Sky is cleft asunder;

WA EZAL KAWAAKEBUN TASARAT.

When the Stars are scattered;

WA EZAL BEHAARO FUJJERAT.

When the Oceans are suffered to burst forth;

WA EZAL QOBOORO BO’SERAT.

And when the Graves are turned upside down;-

A’LEMAT NAFSUM MAA QADDAMAT WA AKHKHARAT.

(Then) shall each soul know what it hath sent forward and (what it hath) kept back.

YAA AYYOHAL INSAANO MAA GHARRAKA BE-RABBEKAL KAREEMIL.

O man! What has seduced thee from thy Lord Most Beneficent?

LAZEE KHALAQAKA FA-SAWWAAKA FA-A’DALAKA.

Him Who created thee. Fashioned thee in due proportion, and gave thee a just bias;

FEE AYYE SOORATIM MAA SHAAA-A RAKKABAK.

In whatever Form He wills, does He put thee together.

KALLAA BAL TOKAZZEBOONA BID-DEENE.

Nay! But ye do reject Right and Judgment!

WA INNA A’LAYKUM LA-HAAFEZEENA.

But verily over you (are appointed angels) to protect you,-

KERAAMAN KAATEBEENA.

Kind and honourable,- Writing down (your deeds):

YA’LAMOONA MAA TAF-A’LOON.

They know (and understand) all that ye do.

INNAL ABRAARA LAFEE NA-E’EM.

As for the Righteous, they will be in bliss;

WA INNAL FUJJAARA LAFEE JAHEEMIN-Y.

And the Wicked - they will be in the Fire,

YASLAWNAHAA YAWMAD DEEN.

Which they will enter on the Day of Judgment,

WA MAA HUM A’NHAA BE-GHAAA-EBEEN.

And they will not be able to keep away therefrom.

WA MAA ADRAAKA MAA YAWMUD DEENE.

And what will explain to thee what the Day of Judgment is?

SUMMA MAA ADRAAKA MAA YAWMUD DEEN.

Again, what will explain to thee what the Day of Judgment is?

YAWMA LAA TAMLEKO NAFSUL LE-NAFSIN SHAY-AA, WAL AMRO YAWMA-EZIL LILLAAH.

(It will be) the Day when no soul shall have power (to do) aught for another: For the command, that Day, will be (wholly) with Allah.
