Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful

يٰسٓ ۚ‏(1)

YAASEEN.

Ya Seen!

وَالْقُرْاٰنِ الْحَكِيْمِ ۙ‏(2)

WAL QURAANIL HAKEEM.

By the Wise Quran,

اِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَۙ‏(3)

INNAKA LAMENAL MURSALEEN.

you are indeed one of the apostles,

عَلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيْمٍؕ‏(4)

A’LAA SERAATIM MUSTAQEEM.

on a straight path.

تَنْزِيْلَ الْعَزِيْزِ الرَّحِيْمِ ۙ‏(5)

TANZEELAL A’ZEEZIR RAHEEM.

[It is a scripture] sent down gradually from the All-mighty, the All-merciful

لِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّاۤ اُنْذِرَ اٰبَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غٰفِلُوْنَ‏(6)

LE-TUNZERA QAWMAM MAA UNZERA AABAA-OHUM FAHUM GHAAFELUN.

that you may warn a people whose fathers were not warned, so they are oblivious.

لَقَدْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلٰٓى اَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ‏(7)

LAQAD HAQQAL QAWLO A’LAA AKSAREHIM FAHUM LAA YOAMENOON.

The word has certainly become due against most of them, so they will not have faith.

اِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىْۤ اَعْنَاقِهِمْ اَغْلٰلًا فَهِىَ اِلَى الْاَ ذْقَانِ فَهُمْ مُّقْمَحُوْنَ‏(8)

INNAA JA-A’LNAA FEE A-A’NAAQEHIM AGHLAALAN FAHEYA ELAL AZQAANE FAHUM MUQMAHOON.

Indeed We have put iron collars around their necks, which are up to the chins, so their heads are upturned.

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْۢ بَيْنِ اَيْدِيْهِمْ سَدًّا وَّمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَاَغْشَيْنٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُوْنَ‏(9)

WA JA-A’LNAA MIM BAYNE AYDEEHIM SADDANW WA MIN KHALFEHIM SADDAN FA-AGHSHAYNAAHUM FAHUM LAA YUBSEROON.

And We have put a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, then We have blind-folded them, so they do not see.

وَسَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَاَنْذَرْتَهُمْ اَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ‏(10)

WA SAWAAA-UN A’LAYHIM A-ANZARTAHUM AM LAM TUNZIRHUM LAA YOAMENUN.

It is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not have faith.

اِنَّمَا تُنْذِرُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الذِّكْرَ وَخَشِىَ الرَّحْمٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِۚ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَّاَجْرٍ كَرِيْمٍ‏(11)

INNAMAA TUNZERO MANIT-TABA-A’Z ZIKRA WA KHASEYAR RAHMAANA BIL-GHAYBE FA-BASH-SHIRHO BE MAGHFERATINW WA AJRIN KAREEM.

You can only warn someone who follows the Reminder and fears the All-beneficent in secret; so give him the good news of forgiveness and a noble reward.

اِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِ الْمَوْتٰى وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوْا وَاٰثَارَهُمْؕؔ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ اَحْصَيْنٰهُ فِىْۤ اِمَامٍ مُّبِيْنٍ‏(12)

INNAA NAHNO NOHYIL MAWTAA WA NAKTOBO MAA QADDAMOO WA AASAARAHUM, WA KULLA SHAY-IN AHSAYNAAHO FEE EMAAMIM MOBEEN.

Indeed it is We who revive the dead and write what they have sent ahead and their effects [which they left behind], and We have figured everything in a manifest Imam.

وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَّثَلًا اَصْحٰبَ الْقَرْيَةِ ۘ اِذْ جَآءَهَا الْمُرْسَلُوْنَۚ‏(13)

WAZ RIB LAHUM MASALAN ASHAABAL QARYATE, IZ-JAA-A-HAL MURSALOON.

Cite for them the example of the inhabitants of the town when the apostles came to it.

اِذْ اَرْسَلْنَاۤ اِلَيْهِمُ اثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوْهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوْۤا اِنَّاۤ اِلَيْكُمْ مُّرْسَلُوْنَ‏(14)

IZ ARSALNAA ELAYHEMUS NAYNE FA-KAZZABOOHOMAA FA-A’ZZAZNAA BE SAALESIN FA-QAALOO INNAA ELAYKUM MURSALOONA.

When We sent to them two [apostles], they impugned both of them. Then We reinforced them with a third, and they said, ‘We have indeed been sent to you.’

قَالُوْا مَاۤ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا ۙ وَمَاۤ اَنْزَلَ الرَّحْمٰنُ مِنْ شَىْءٍۙ اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا تَكْذِبُوْنَ‏(15)

QAALOO MAA ANTUM ILLAA BASHARUM MISLONAA, WA MAA ANZALAR RAHMAANO MIN SHAY-IN IN ANTUM ILLAA TAKZEBOON.

They said, ‘You are no other than human beings like us, and the All-beneficent has not sent down anything, and you are only lying.’

قَالُوْا رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ اِنَّاۤ اِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُوْنَ‏(16)

QAALOO RABBONAA YA’LAMO INNA ELAYKUM LA-MURSALOON.

They said, ‘Our Lord knows that we have indeed been sent to you,

وَمَا عَلَيْنَاۤ اِلَّا الْبَلٰغُ الْمُبِيْنُ‏(17)

WA MAA A’LAYNAA ILLAL BALAAGHUL MOBEEN.

and our duty is only to communicate in clear terms.’

قَالُوْۤا اِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْۚ لَئِنْ لَّمْ تَنْتَهُوْا لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُمْ مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ اَلِيْمٌ‏(18)

QAALOO INNAA TATAYYARNAA BEKUM, LA-IL-LAM TANTAHOO LA-NAR- JOMANNAKUM WA LAYAMASSANNAKUM MINNAA A’ZAABUN ALEEM.

They said, ‘Indeed we take you for a bad omen. If you do not desist we will stone you, and surely a painful punishment will visit you from us.’

قَالُوْا طٰۤئِرُكُمْ مَّعَكُمْؕ اَئِنْ ذُكِّرْتُمْ ؕ بَلْ اَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُوْنَ‏(19)

QAALOO TAAA-EROKUM MA-A’KUM, A-IN ZUKKIRTUM, BAL ANTUM QAWMUM MUSREFOON.

They said, ‘Your bad omens attend you. What! If you are admonished.... Indeed, you are an unrestrained lot.’

وَجَآءَ مِنْ اَقْصَا الْمَدِيْنَةِ رَجُلٌ يَّسْعٰى قَالَ يٰقَوْمِ اتَّبِعُوا الْمُرْسَلِيْنَۙ‏(20)

WA JAA-A MIN AQSAL MADEENATE RAJOLUN-Y YAS-A’A QAALA YAA-QAWMIT TABE-U’L MURSALEENAT.

There came a man hurrying from the city outskirts. He said, ‘O my people! Follow the apostles!

اتَّبِعُوْا مَنْ لَّا يَسْئَلُكُمْ اَجْرًا وَّهُمْ مُّهْتَدُوْنَ‏(21)

TABEOO’ MAL LAA YAS-ALOKUM AJRANW WA HUM MOHTADOON.

Follow them who do not ask you any reward and they are rightly guided.

وَمَا لِىَ لَاۤ اَعْبُدُ الَّذِىْ فَطَرَنِىْ وَاِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ‏(22)

WA MAA LEYA LAA A-A’BODUL LAZEE FATARANEE WA ELAYHE TURJA-O’ON.

Why should I not worship Him who has originated me, and to whom you shall be brought back?

ءَاَ تَّخِذُ مِنْ دُوْنِهٖۤ اٰلِهَةً اِنْ يُّرِدْنِ الرَّحْمٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّىْ شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا وَّلَا يُنْقِذُوْنِۚ‏(23)

A-AT-TAKHEZO MIN DOONEHI AALEHATAN INY-YORIDNIR RAHMAANO BE-ZURRIL LAA TUGHNE A’NNEE SHAFAA-A’TOHUM SHAY-ANW WA LAA YUNQEZOON.

Shall I take gods besides Him? If the All-beneficent desired to cause me any distress, their intercession will not avail me in any way, nor will they rescue me.

اِنِّىْۤ اِذًا لَّفِىْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍ‏(24)

INNEE EZAL LAFEE ZALAALIM MOBEEN.

Indeed, then I would be in manifest error.

اِنِّىْۤ اٰمَنْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَاسْمَعُوْنِؕ‏(25)

INNEE AAMANTO BE-RABBEKUM FAS-MA-O’ON.

Indeed I have faith in your Lord, so listen to me.’

قِيْلَ ادْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَؕ قَالَ يٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِىْ يَعْلَمُوْنَۙ‏(26)

QEELAD-KHOLIL JANNAH, QAALA YAA LAYTA QAWMEE YA’LAMOONA.

He was told, ‘Enter paradise!’ He said, ‘Alas! Had my people only known

بِمَا غَفَرَلِىْ رَبِّىْ وَجَعَلَنِىْ مِنَ الْمُكْرَمِيْنَ‏(27)

BEMAA GHAFARA-LEE RABBEE WA JA-A’LANEE MENAL MUKRAMEEN.

for what my Lord forgave me and made me one of the honoured ones!’

وَمَاۤ اَنْزَلْنَا عَلٰى قَوْمِهٖ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ مِنْ جُنْدٍ مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنْزِلِيْنَ‏(28)

WA MAA ANZALNAA A’LAA QAWMEHI MIM BA’DEHI MIN JUNDIM MENAS SAMAAA-E WA MAA KUNNAA MUNZELEEN.

After him We did not send down on his people a host from the sky, nor We would have sent down.

اِنْ كَانَتْ اِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً فَاِذَا هُمْ خٰمِدُوْنَ‏(29)

IN KAANAT ILLAA SAY-HATANW WAAHEDATAN FA-EZAA HUM KHAAMEDOON.

It was but a single Cry, and, behold, they were stilled [like burnt ashes]!

يٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى الْعِبَادِ ؔۚ مَا يَاْتِيْهِمْ مِّنْ رَّسُوْلٍ اِلَّا كَانُوْا بِهٖ يَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ‏(30)

YAA HASRATAN A’LAL E’BAADE, MAA YAATEEHIM MIR RASOOLIN ILLAA KAANOO BEHI YASTAHZEOON.

How regrettable of the servants! There did not come to them any apostle but that they used to deride him.

اَلَمْ يَرَوْا كَمْ اَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُمْ مِّنَ الْقُرُوْنِ اَنَّهُمْ اِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُوْنَؕ‏(31)

ALAM YARAW KAM AHLAKNAA QABLAHUM MENAL QOROONE ANNAHUM ELAYHIM LAA YARJEOON.

Have they not regarded how many generations We have destroyed before them who will not come back to them?

وَاِنْ كُلٌّ لَّمَّا جَمِيْعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُوْنَ‏(32)

WA IN KULLUL LAMMAA JAMEE-U’L LADAYNAA MOHZAROON.

And all of them will indeed be presented before Us.

وَاٰيَةٌ لَّهُمُ الْاَرْضُ الْمَيْتَةُ ۖۚ اَحْيَيْنٰهَا وَاَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَاْكُلُوْنَ‏(33)

WA AAYATUL LAHOMUL ARZUL MAYTAH, AHYAYNAAHAA WA AKHRAJNAA MINHAA HABBAN FAMINHO YAAKOLOON.

A sign for them is the dead earth, which We revive and bring forth grain out of it, so they eat of it.

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيْهَا جَنّٰتٍ مِّنْ نَّخِيْلٍ وَّاَعْنَابٍ وَّفَجَّرْنَا فِيْهَا مِنَ الْعُيُوْنِۙ‏(34)

WA JA-A’LNAA FEEHAA JANNAATIM MIN NAKHEELINW WA A-A’NAABINW WA FAJJARNAA FEEHAA MENAL O’YOONE.

We make in it orchards of date palms and vines, and We cause springs to gush forth in it,

لِيَاْكُلُوْا مِنْ ثَمَرِهٖ ۙ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ اَيْدِيْهِمْ ؕ اَفَلَا يَشْكُرُوْنَ‏(35)

LE-YAAKOLOO MIN SAMAREHI, WA MAA A’MELAT-HO AYDEEHIM, AFALAA YASHKOROON.

so that they may eat of its fruit and what their hands have cultivated. Will they not then give thanks?

سُبْحٰنَ الَّذِىْ خَلَقَ الْاَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنْۢبِتُ الْاَرْضُ وَمِنْ اَنْفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ‏(36)

SUBHAANAL LAZEE KHALAQAL AZWAAJA KULLAHAA MIMMAA TUMBETUL ARZO WA MIN ANFOSEHIM WA MIMMAA LAA YA’LAMOON.

Immaculate is He who has created all the kinds of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and of what they do not know.

وَاٰيَةٌ لَّهُمُ الَّيْلُۖۚ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ النَّهَارَ فَاِذَا هُمْ مُّظْلِمُوْنَۙ‏(37)

WA AAYATUL LAHOMUL LAYL, NASLAKHO MINHUN NAHAARA FA-EZAA HUM MUZLEMOON.

A sign for them is the night, which We strip of daylight, and, behold, they find themselves in the dark!

وَالشَّمْسُ تَجْرِىْ لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَاؕ ذٰلِكَ تَقْدِيْرُ الْعَزِيْزِ الْعَلِيْمِؕ‏(38)

WASH-SHAMSO TAJREE LE-MUSTAQARRIL LAHAA, ZAALEKA TAQDEERUL A’ZEEZIL A’LEEM.

The sun runs on to its place of rest: That is the ordaining of the All-mighty, the All-knowing.

وَالْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتّٰى عَادَ كَالْعُرْجُوْنِ الْقَدِيْمِ‏(39)

WAL QAMARA QADDARNAAHO MANAAZELA HATTAA A’ADA KAL-U’RJOONIL QADEEM.

As for the moon, We have ordained its phases, until it becomes like an old palm leaf.

لَا الشَّمْسُ يَنْۢبَغِىْ لَهَاۤ اَنْ تُدْرِكَ الْقَمَرَ وَلَا الَّيْلُ سَابِقُ النَّهَارِؕ وَكُلٌّ فِىْ فَلَكٍ يَّسْبَحُوْنَ‏(40)

LASH-SHAMSO YANBAGHEE LAHAA AN TUDREKAL QAMARA WA LAL LAYLO SAABEQUN NAHAARE, WA KULLUN FEE FALAKINY YASBAHOON.

Neither it behooves the sun to overtake the moon, nor may the night outrun the day, and each swims in an orbit.

وَاٰيَةٌ لَّهُمْ اَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُوْنِۙ‏(41)

WA AAYATUL LAHUM ANNAA HAMALNAA ZURRIYYATAHUM FIL FULKIL MASH-HOON.

A sign for them is that We carried their progeny in the laden ship,

وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّنْ مِّثْلِهٖ مَا يَرْكَبُوْنَ‏(42)

WA KHALAQNAA LAHUM MIM MISLEHI MAA YARKABOON.

and We have created for them what is similar to it, which they ride.

وَاِنْ نَّشَاْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيْخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْقَذُوْنَۙ‏(43)

WA IN NASHAA NUGHRIQ-HUM FALAA SAREEKHA LAHUM WA LAA HUM YUNQAZOONA.

And if We like We drown them, whereat they have no one to call for help, nor are they rescued

اِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَمَتَاعًا اِلٰى حِيْنٍ‏(44)

ILLAA RAHMATAM MINNAA WA MATAA-A’N ELAA HEEN.

except by a mercy from Us and for an enjoyment until some time.

وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمُ اتَّقُوْا مَا بَيْنَ اَيْدِيْكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُوْنَ‏(45)

WA EZAA QEELA LAHOMUT TAQOO MAA BAYNA AYDEEKUM WA MAA KHALFAKUM LA-A’LLAKUM TURHA-MOON.

And when they are told, ‘Beware of that which is before you and that which is behind you, so that you may receive [His] mercy…’

وَمَا تَاْتِيْهِمْ مِّنْ اٰيَةٍ مِّنْ اٰيٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ اِلَّا كَانُوْا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِيْنَ‏(46)

WA MAA TAA-TEEHIM MIN AAYATIM MIN AAYAATE RABBEHIM ILLAA KAANOO A’NHAA MOA’REZEEN.

There does not come to them any sign from among the signs of their Lord but that they have been disregarding it.

وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمْ اَنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ ۙ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لِلَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اَنُطْعِمُ مَنْ لَّوْ يَشَآءُ اللّٰهُ اَطْعَمَهٗٓ ۖ  اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا فِىْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍ‏(47)

WA EZAA QEELA LAHUM ANFEQOO MIMMAA RAZAQAKOMUL LAAHO, QAALAL LAZEENA KAFAROO LILLAZEENA AAMANOO A-NUT-E’MO MAL LAW YASHAAA-UL LAAHO ATA’MAH, IN ANTUM ILLAA FEE ZALAALIM MOBEEN.

When they are told, ‘Spend out of what Allah has provided you,’ the faithless say to the faithful, ‘Shall we feed [someone] whom Allah would feed, if He wished? You are only in manifest error.’

وَيَقُوْلُوْنَ مَتٰى هٰذَا الْوَعْدُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ‏(48)

WA YAQOOLOONA MATAA HAAZAL WA’DO IN KUNTUM SAADEQEEN.

And they say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, should you be truthful?’

مَا يَنْظُرُوْنَ اِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً تَاْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُوْنَ‏(49)

MAA YANZOROONA ILLAA SAYHATANW WAAHEDATAN TAAKHOZOHUM WA HUM YAKHISSEMOON.

They do not await but a single Cry that will seize them as they wrangle.

فَلَا يَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ تَوْصِيَةً وَّلَاۤ اِلٰٓى اَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُوْنَ‏(50)

FALAA YASTATEEO’ONA TAWSEYATANW WALAA ELAA AHLEHIM YARJE-O’ON.

Then they will not be able to make any will, nor will they return to their folks.

وَنُفِخَ فِى الصُّوْرِ فَاِذَا هُمْ مِّنَ الْاَجْدَاثِ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمْ يَنْسِلُوْنَ‏(51)

WA NOFEKHA FIS-SOORE FA-EZAA HUM MENAL AJDAASE ELAA RABBEHIM YANSELOON.

And when the Trumpet is blown, behold, there they will be, scrambling towards their Lord from their graves!

قَالُوْا يٰوَيْلَنَا مَنْۢ بَعَثَنَا مِنْ مَّرْقَدِنَاۘؔهٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ الرَّحْمٰنُ وَصَدَقَ الْمُرْسَلُوْنَ‏(52)

QAALOO YAA WAYLANAA MAM BA-A’SANAA MIM MARQADENAA, HAAZAA MA WA-A’DAR RAHMAANO WA SADAQAL MURSALOON.

They will say, ‘Woe to us! Who raised us from our place of sleep?’ ‘This is what the All-beneficent had promised, and the apostles had spoken the truth!’

اِنْ كَانَتْ اِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً فَاِذَا هُمْ جَمِيْعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُوْنَ‏(53)

IN KAANAT ILLAA SAYHATANW WAAHEDATAN FA-EZAA HUM JAMEE-U’L LADAYNAA MOHZAROON.

It will be but a single Cry, and, behold, they will all be presented before Us!

فَالْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْئًا وَّلَا تُجْزَوْنَ اِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَ‏(54)

FALYAWMA LAA TUZLAMO NAFSOON SHAY-ANW WA LAA TUJ-ZAWNA ILLAA MAA KUNTUM TA’MALOON.

‘Today no soul will be wronged in the least, nor will you be requited except for what you used to do.’

اِنَّ اَصْحٰبَ الْجَنَّةِ الْيَوْمَ فِىْ شُغُلٍ فٰكِهُوْنَۚ‏(55)

INNA ASHAABAL JANNATIL YAWMA FEE SHOGHOLIN FAAKEHOON.

Indeed today the inhabitants of paradise rejoice in their engagements

هُمْ وَاَزْوَاجُهُمْ فِىْ ظِلٰلٍ عَلَى الْاَرَآئِكِ مُتَّكِئُوْنَ‏(56)

HUM WA AJWAAJOHUM FEE ZELAALIN A’LAL ARAAA-EKE MUTTAKEOON.

—they and their mates, reclining on couches in the shades.

لَهُمْ فِيْهَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَّلَهُمْ مَّا يَدَّعُوْنَ ۖۚ‏(57)

LAHUM FEEHAA FAAKEHATUNW WA LAHUM MAA YADDAO’ON.

There they have fruits, and they have whatever they want.

سَلٰمٌ قَوْلًا مِّنْ رَّبٍّ رَّحِيْمٍ‏(58)

SALAAMUN, QAWLAM MIR-RABBIR RAHEEM.

‘Peace!’—a watchword from the all-merciful Lord.

وَامْتَازُوا الْيَوْمَ اَيُّهَا الْمُجْرِمُوْنَ‏(59)

WAM TAAZUL YAWMA AYYOHAL MUJREMOON.

And ‘Get apart today, you guilty ones!’

اَلَمْ اَعْهَدْ اِلَيْكُمْ يٰبَنِىْۤ اٰدَمَ اَنْ لَّا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّيْطٰنَۚ اِنَّهٗ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِيْنٌ ۙ‏(60)

ALAM A-A’HAD ELAYKUM YAA BANEE AADAMA AL-LAA TA’BODUSH-SHAYTAANA, INNAHU LAKUM A’DUWWUM MOBEEN.

‘Did I not exhort you, O children of Adam, saying, “Do not worship Satan. He is indeed your manifest enemy.

وَّاَنِ اعْبُدُوْنِىْؔؕ هٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسْتَقِيْمٌ‏(61)

WA ANE’-BODOONEE, HAAZAA SERAATUM MUSTAQEEM.

Worship Me. That is a straight path”?

وَلَقَدْ اَضَلَّ مِنْكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِيْرًا ؕ اَفَلَمْ تَكُوْنُوْا تَعْقِلُوْنَ‏(62)

WA LAQAD AZALLA MINKUM JEBILLAN KASEERAA, A-FALAM TAKOONOO TA’QELOON.

Certainly, he has led astray many of your generations. Have you not exercised your reason?

هٰذِهٖ جَهَنَّمُ الَّتِىْ كُنْتُمْ تُوْعَدُوْنَ‏(63)

HAAZEHI JAHANNAMUL LATEE KUNTUM TOO-A’DOON.

This is the hell you had been promised!

اِصْلَوْهَا الْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُوْنَ‏(64)

ISLAWHAL YAWMA BEMAA KUNTUM TAKFOROON.

Enter it today, because of what you used to deny.

اَلْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلٰٓى اَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَاۤ اَيْدِيْهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ اَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَكْسِبُوْنَ‏(65)

AL-YAWMA NAKHTEMO A’LAA AFWAA-HEHIM WA TOKALLEMONAA AYDEEHIM WA TASH-HADO ARJOLOHUM BEMAA KAANOO YAKSEBOON.

Today We shall seal their mouths, and their hands shall speak to Us, and their feet shall bear witness concerning what they used to earn.’

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلٰٓى اَعْيُنِهِمْ فَاسْتَبَقُوا الصِّرَاطَ فَاَنّٰى يُبْصِرُوْنَ‏(66)

WA LAW NA-SHAAA-O LATAMASNAA A’LAA A-A’YONEHIM FASTABAQUS-SERAATA FA-ANNAA YUBSEROON.

Had We wished We would have blotted out their eyes: then, were they to advance towards the path, how would have they seen?

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنٰهُمْ عَلٰى مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوْا مُضِيًّا وَّلَا يَرْجِعُوْنَ‏(67)

WA LAW NASHAAA-O LAMASAKHNAAHUM A’LAA MAKAANATEHIM FAMAS-TA-TAA-OO’ MOZIYYANW WA LAA YARJE-O’ON.

And had We wished We would have deformed them in their place; then they would neither have been able to move ahead nor to return.

وَمَنْ نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى الْخَلْقِؕ اَفَلَا يَعْقِلُوْنَ‏(68)

WA MAN NO-A’MMIRHO NONAKKISHO FIL KHALQE, AFALAA YA’QELOON.

And whomever We give a long life, We cause him to regress in creation. Then, will they not exercise their reason?

وَمَا عَلَّمْنٰهُ الشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنْۢبَغِىْ لَهٗؕ اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَّقُرْاٰنٌ مُّبِيْنٌۙ‏(69)

WA MAA A’LLAMNAAHUSH-SHE’RA WA MAA YANBAGHEE LAHU, IN HOWA ILLAA ZIKRUNW WA QURAANUM MOBEEN.

We did not teach him poetry, nor does it behoove him. This is just a reminder and a manifest Quran,

لِّيُنْذِرَ مَنْ كَانَ حَيًّا وَّيَحِقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى الْكٰفِرِيْنَ‏(70)

LEYUNZERA MAN KAANA HAYYANW WA YAHIQQAL QAWLO A’LAL KAAFEREEN.

so that anyone who is alive may be warned, and that the word may come due against the faithless.

اَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا اَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ اَيْدِيْنَاۤ اَنْعَامًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مٰلِكُوْنَ‏(71)

AWALAM YARAW ANNAA KHALAQNAA LAHUM MIMMAA A’MELAT AYDEENAA AN-A’AMAN FAHUM LAHAA MAALEKOON.

Have they not seen that We have created for them—of what Our hands have worked—cattle, so they have become their masters?

وَذَلَّلْنٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوْبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَاْكُلُوْنَ‏(72)

WA ZALLALNAAHAA LAHUM FAMINHAA RAKOOBOHIM WA MINHAA YAAKOLOON.

And We made them tractable for them; so some of them make their mounts and some of them they eat.

وَلَهُمْ فِيْهَا مَنَافِعُ وَمَشَارِبُؕ اَفَلَا يَشْكُرُوْنَ‏(73)

WA LAHUM FEEHAA MANAAFE-O’ WA MASHAAREB, AFALAA YASHKOROON.

There are other benefits for them therein, and drinks. Will they not then give thanks?

وَاتَّخَذُوْا مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ اٰلِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنْصَرُوْنَؕ‏(74)

WAT-TAKHAZOO MIN DOONIL LAAHE AALEHATAL LA-A’LLAHUM YUNSAROON.

They have taken gods besides Allah, [hoping] that they might be helped [by the fake deities].

لَا يَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ نَصْرَهُمْۙ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُنْدٌ مُّحْضَرُوْنَ‏(75)

LAA YASTA-TEE-O’ONA NASRAHUM, WA HUM LAHUM JUNDUM MOHZAROON.

[But] they cannot help them, while they [themselves] are an army mobilized for their defence.

فَلَا يَحْزُنْكَ قَوْلُهُمْۘ اِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّوْنَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُوْنَ‏(76)

FALAA YAHZUNKA QAWLOHUM, INNAA NA’LAMO MAA YOSIRROONA WA MAA YO’LENOON.

So do not let their remarks grieve you. We indeed know whatever they hide and whatever they disclose.

اَوَلَمْ يَرَ الْاِنْسَانُ اَنَّا خَلَقْنٰهُ مِنْ نُّطْفَةٍ فَاِذَا هُوَ خَصِيْمٌ مُّبِيْنٌ‏(77)

AWALAM YARAL INSAANO ANNAA KHALAQNAAHO MIN NUTFATIN FA-EZAA HOWA KHASEEMUM MOBEEN.

Does not man see that We created him from a drop of [seminal] fluid, and, behold, he is an open contender!?

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَّ نَسِىَ خَلْقَهٗ ؕ قَالَ مَنْ يُّحْىِ الْعِظَامَ وَهِىَ رَمِيْمٌ‏(78)

WA-ZARABA LANAA MASALANW WA-NASEYA KHALQAH, QAALA MANY YOHYIL E’ZAAMA WA HEYA RAMEEM.

He draws comparisons for Us, and forgets his own creation. He says, ‘Who shall revive the bones when they have decayed?’

قُلْ يُحْيِيْهَا الَّذِىْۤ اَنْشَاَهَاۤ اَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ؕ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيْمُ ۙ‏(79)

QUL YOHYEEHAL LAZEE AN-SHA-A-HAA AWWALA MARRAH, WA HOWA BEKULLE KHALQIN A’LEEMO-NIL.

Say, ‘He will revive them who produced them the first time, and He has knowledge of all creation.

اۨلَّذِىْ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِّنَ الشَّجَرِ الْاَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَاِذَاۤ اَنْتُمْ مِّنْهُ تُوْقِدُوْنَ‏(80)

LAZEE JA-A’LA LAKUM MENASH-SHAJARIL AKH-ZARE NAARAN FA-EZAA ANTUM MINHO TOOQEDOON.

He, who made for you fire out of the green tree, and, behold, you light fire from it!

اَوَلَيْسَ الَّذِىْ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَ بِقٰدِرٍ عَلٰٓى اَنْ يَّخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْؔؕ بَلٰی وَهُوَ الْخَلّٰقُ الْعَلِيْمُ‏(81)

AWA LAYSAL LAZEE KHALAQAS SAMAAWAATE WAL-ARZA BE-QAADERIN A’LAA ANY-YAKHLOQA MISLAHUM, BALAA, WA HOWAL KHALLAAQUL A’LEEM.

Is not He who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like of them? Yes indeed! He is the All-creator, the All-knowing.

اِنَّمَاۤ اَمْرُهٗۤ اِذَاۤ اَرَادَ شَیْئًا اَنْ يَّقُوْلَ لَهٗ كُنْ فَيَكُوْنُ‏(82)

INNAMAA AMROHU EZAA ARAADA SHAY-AN ANY YAQOOLA LAHU KUN FAYAKOON.

All His command, when He wills something, is to say to it ‘Be,’ and it is.

فَسُبْحٰنَ الَّذِىْ بِيَدِهٖ مَلَكُوْتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَّاِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ‏(83)

FA SUBHAANAL LAZEE BEYADEHI MALAKOOTO KULLE SHAYINW WA ELAYHE TURJA-O’ON.

So immaculate is He in whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to whom you shall be brought back.
