Merits
This is a ‘Makki’ Surah with 5 verses. It is narrated from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a.s.) that whoever recites this Surah in his obligatory prayers, the mountains will bear witness on the Day of Judgement that he prayed and he will be taken to Paradise on the command of Allah (s.w.t.).
The person who recites this Surah is kept safe from his enemies and has his difficulties and problems solved quickly. Recitation of this Surah is also helpful in remaining safe from evil tyrant rulers.
Text and Translation
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate
اَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِاَصْحٰبِ الْفِيْلِؕ(1)
ALAM TARA KAYFA FA-A’LA RABBOKA BE-ASHAABIL FEEL.
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the possessors of the elephant?
اَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِىْ تَضْلِيْلٍۙ(2)
ALAM YAJ-A’L KAYDAHUM FEE TAZLEELINW.
Did He not cause their war to end in confusion,
وَّاَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا اَبَابِيْلَۙ(3)
WA ARSALA A’LAYHIM TAYRAN ABAABEELA.
And send down (to prey) upon them birds in flocks,
تَرْمِيْهِمْ بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّنْ سِجِّيْلٍۙ(4)
TARMEEHIM BE-HEJAARATIM MIN SIJJEELIN.
Casting against them stones of baked clay,
فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّاْكُوْلٍ(5)
FA-JA-A’LAHUM KA-A’SFIM MAAKOOL.
So He rendered them like straw eaten up?
