Merits
There are 3 verses in this ‘Makki’ Surah. Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said that the person who recites this Surah in his recommended prayers will have a shining face on the Day of Judgement.
The one who recites this Surah will be patient in adversity and will be counted from among the people of truth. If this Surah is written after Isha prayers and kept, it will be a safety from the tyrant ruler in whose presence one is brought.
Text and Translation
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful
وَالْعَصْرِۙ(1)
WAL A’SRE.
By Time!
اِنَّ الْاِنْسَانَ لَفِىْ خُسْرٍۙ(2)
INNAL INSAANA LAFEE KHUSRIN.
Man is indeed in loss,
اِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ ۙ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ(3)
ILLAL LAZEENA AAMAANOO WA A’MELUS SAALEHAATE WA TAWAASAW BIL HAQQE WA TAWAASAW BISSABR.
except those who have faith and do righteous deeds, and enjoin one another to [follow] the truth, and enjoin one another to patience.
