Merits
This is a ‘Makki’ Surah which has 11 verses. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) has said that the person who frequently recites this Surah will be saved from the heat of hellfire.
If a businessman or a person in financial difficulties keeps this Surah in his possession, the doors of sustenance will be opened to him. Recitation of this Surah in prayers also increases in one’s sustenance. Water in which this Surah has been dissolved is useful in keeping away unwanted pests (e.g. Insects and rodents).
Text and Translation
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate
اَلْقَارِعَةُ ۙ(1)
ALQAARE-A’TO.
The terrible calamity!
مَا الْقَارِعَةُ ۚ(2)
MAL QAARE-A’H.
What is the terrible calamity!
وَمَاۤ اَدْرٰٮكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ ؕ(3)
WA MAA ADRAAKA MAL QAARE-A’H.
And what will make you comprehend what the terrible calamity is?
يَوْمَ يَكُوْنُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوْثِۙ(4)
YAWMA YAKOONUN NAASO KAL-FARAASHIL MABSOOSE.
The day on which men shall be as scattered moths,
وَتَكُوْنُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنْفُوْشِؕ(5)
WA TAKOONUL JEBAALO KAL-E’HNIL MANFOOSH.
And the mountains shall be as loosened wool.
فَاَمَّا مَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِيْنُهٗ ۙ(6)
FA-AMMAA MAN SAQOLAT MAWAAZEENOHU.
Then as for him whose measure of good deeds is heavy,
فَهُوَ فِىْ عِيْشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ ؕ(7)
FAHOWA FEE E’ESHATIR RAAZEYAH.
He shall live a pleasant life.
وَاَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِيْنُهٗ ۙ(8)
WA AMMAA MAN KHAFFAT MAWAAZEENOHU.
And as for him whose measure of good deeds is light,
فَاُمُّهٗ هَاوِيَةٌ ؕ(9)
FA-UMMOHU HAAWEYAH.
His abode shall be the abyss.
وَمَاۤ اَدْرٰٮكَ مَا هِيَهْ ؕ(10)
WA MAA ADRAAKA MAA HEYAH.
And what will make you know what it is?
نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌ(11)
NAARUN HAAMEYAH
A burning fire.
