Merits
10 Munaajaat by Imam Mohammed al-Taqi al-Jawad (a.s.)
Muhammad ibn Haris al-Nawfali, the servant of Imam Muhammad al-Taqi (a.s.), has reported that when al-Ma'mun, the Abbasid ruler, decided to give his daughter in marriage to Imam Muhammad ibn Ali (a.s.), the Imam (a.s.) wrote to him this message:
Every wife must be given a dowry from the property of her husband. As for us, Almighty Allah has put off our properties to give them to us in the Hereafter just as He has given you your properties in advance in this worldly life. I thus decide to dower your daughter with “the means to the response to the petitions.”
A number of confidential prayers, my father has given me these supplications and said that he received them from his father Moosa (a.s.), who told that he had received them from his father Ja`far (a.s.), who told that he had received them from his father Muhammad (a.s.), who told that he had received them from his father Ali (a.s.), who told that he had received them from his father al-Husayn (a.s.), who told that he had received them from his brother al-Hasan (a.s.), who told that he had received them from his father Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.), who told that he had received them from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.), who told that he had received them from Archangel Gabriel who said, “Muhammad, the Almighty Lord conveys His greetings to you and says that He is carrying to You the keys to the treasures of this world and the Next World.
He thus advises you to use them as the means to the response to your petitions. Through these confidential prayers, you can attain your desires and succeed in winning your requests. Therefore, do not use them in this-worldly requests rather than the otherworldly requests; lest, you will lessen the value of your otherworldly prizes.
These means are ten supplicatory prayers by which you can knock on the doors of your desires and they will be opened before you, and you can ask for things, and you will be given access to them.”
Text and Translation
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّ خِيَرَتَكَ فِيْمَا اسْتَخَرْتُكَ فِيْهِ تُنِيْلُ الرَّغَاۤئِبَ
ALLAAHUMMA INNA KHEYARATAKA FEEMAS TAKHARTOKA FEEHE TONEELUR RAGHAAA-EBA
O Allah, indeed Your choice in that which I seek Your guidance for grants desires,
وَ تُجْزِلُ الْمَوَاهِبَ وَ تُغْنِمُ الْمَطَالِبَ وَتُطَيِّبُ الْمَكَاسِبَ
WA TUJZELUL MAWAAHEBA WA TUGHNEMUL MATAALEBA WA TOTAYYEBUL MAKAASEBA
makes gifts abundant, turns pursuits into gains, makes earnings pure,
وَ تَهْدِىْۤ اِلٰۤى اَجْمَلِ الْمَذَاهِبِ وَ تَسُوْقُ اِلٰۤى اَحْمَدِ الْعَوَاقِبِ وَتَقِىْ مَخُوْفَ النَّوَاۤئِبِ
WA TAHDEEE ELAA AJMALIL MAZAAHEBE WA TASOOQO ELAA AHMADIL A’WAAQEBE WA TAQEE MAKHOOFAN NAWAAA-EBE
guides to the most beautiful paths, leads to the most praiseworthy outcomes, and protects from dreaded calamities.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْۤ اَسْتَخِيْرُكَ فِيْمَا عَزَمَ رَاْيِىْ عَلَيْهِ
ALLAAHUMMA INNEEE ASTAKHEEROKA FEEMA A’ZAMA RAA-YEE A’LAYHE
O Allah, I seek Your guidance in that which my opinion has resolved upon
وَ قَادَنِىْ عَقْلِىْ اِلَيْهِ فَسَهِّلِ اللّٰهُمَّ فِيْهِ مَا تَوَعَّرَ
WA QAADANEE A’QLEE ELAYHE FASAHHELIL LAAHUMMA FEEHE MAA TAWA’A’RA
and my intellect has led me toward. So make easy, O Allah, whatever is rugged in it,
وَ يَسِّرْ مِنْهُ مَا تَعَسَّرَ وَاكْفِنِىْ فِيْهِ الْمُهِمَّ وَادْفَعْ بِهٖ عَنِّىْ كُلَّ مُلِمٍّ
WA YASSIR MINHO MAA TA-A’SSARA WAK FENEE FEEHIL MOHIMMA WAD FA’ BEHI A’NNEE KULLA MOLIMMIW
simplify whatever is difficult, suffice me in its critical matters, and avert through it every impending affliction from me.
وَاجْعَلْ يَا رَبِّ عَوَاقِبَهٗ غُنْمًا وَّ مَخُوْفَهٗ سِلْمًا وَّ بُعْدَهٗ قُرْبًا وَّجَدْبَهٗ خِصْبًا
WAJ A’L YAA RABBE A’WAAQEBAHU GHUNMAW WA MAKHOOFAHU SILMAW WA BO’DAHU QURBAW WA JADBAHU KHISBAW
And make, O Lord, its outcomes a gain, its fears a peace, its distance a proximity, and its barrenness a fertility.
وَّ اَرْسِلِ اللّٰهُمَّ اِجَابَتِىْ وَاَنْجِحْ طَلِبَتِىْ وَاقْضِ حَاجَتِىْ وَاقْطَعْ عَنِّىْ عَوَاۤئِقَهَا وَامْنَعْ عَنِّىْ بَوَاۤئِقَهَا
WA ARSELIL LAAHUMMA EJAABATEE WA ANJEH TALEBATEE WAQ ZE HAAJATEE WAQ TA’ A’NNEE A’WAAA-EQAHAA WAM NA’ A’NNEE BAWAAA-EQAHAA
Send forth, O Allah, my response, make my quest successful, fulfill my need, sever from me its obstacles, and block from me its disasters.
وَ اَعْطِنِىْ اللّٰهُمَّ لِوَاۤءَ الظَّفَرِ وَالْخِيَرَةِ فِيْمَا اسْتَخَرْتُكَ
WA A-A’TENIL LAAHUMMA LEWAAA-AZ ZAFARE WAL KHEYARATE FEEMAS TAKHARTOKA
Grant me, O Allah, the banner of victory and the best choice in that which I have sought Your guidance for,
وَ وُفُوْرَ الْمَغْنَمِ فِيْمَا دَعَوْتُكَ وَ عَوَاۤئِدِ الْاِفْضَالِ فِيْمَا رَجَوْتُكَ
WA WOFOORAL MAGHNAME FEEMA DA-A’WTOKA WA A’WAAA-EDIL IFZAALE FEEMAA RAJAWTOKA
the abundance of gain in that which I have supplicated to You for, and the returns of bounty in that which I have hoped from You.
وَاقْرِنْهُ اللّٰهُمَّ بِالنَّجَاحِ وَ خُصَّهٗ بِالصَّلَاحِ
WAQ RINHUL LAAHUMMA BIN NAJAAHE WA KHUSSAHU BIS-SALAAHE
Couple it, O Allah, with success, distinguish it with righteousness,
وَ اَرِنِىْۤ اَسْبَابَ الْخِيَرَةِ فِيْهِ وَاضِحَةً وَّ اَعْلَامَ غُنْمِهَا لَاۤئِحَةً
WA ARENEEE ASBAABAL KHEYARATE FEEHE WAAZEHATAW WA A-A’LAAMA GHUNMEHAA LAAA-EHATAW
show me the means of the best choice within it clearly, and make the signs of its gain visible.
وَّ اشْدُدْ خُنَاقَ تَعْسِيْرِهَا وَ انْعَشْ صَرِيْعَ تَيْسِيْرِهَا
WASH DUD KHONAAQA TA’SEEREHAA WAN A’SH SAREE_A’ TAYSEEREHAA
Tighten the noose around its difficulty, revive the fallen state of its ease,
وَ بَيِّنِ اللّٰهُمَّ مُلْتَبَسَهَا وَاَطْلِقْ مُحْتَبَسَهَا
WA BAYYENIL LAAHUMMA MULTABASAHAA WA ATLIQ MOHTABASAHAA
clarify, O Allah, its ambiguities, release what is held back of it,
وَ مَكِّنْ اُسَّهَا حَتّٰى تَكُوْنَ خِيَرَةً مُّقْبِلَةً ۢ بِالْغُنْمِ
WA MAKKIN USSAHAA HATTAA TAKOONA KHEYARATAM MUQBELATAM BIL-GHUNME
and firmly establish its foundation, so that it becomes a choice that advances with gain,
مُزِيْلَةً لِّلْغُرْمِ عَاجِلَةً لِّلنَّفْعِ بَاقِيَةَ الصُّنْعِ
MOZEELATAL LIL-GHURME A’AJELATAL LIN-NAF-E’ BAAQEYATAS SUN-E’
eradicates loss, brings swift benefit, and remains enduring in its effect.
اِنَّكَ مَلِیْۤءٌ بِۢالْمَزِيْدِ مُبْتَدِءٌ بِۢالْجُوْدِ.
INNAKA MALEE-UM BIL-MAZEEDE MUBTADE-UM BIL-JOODE.
Indeed, you are full of abundance, and the Originator of boundless generosity.
