Ziyarat-e-Hazrat Abbas (a.s.)

Text and Translation

Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said: When you want to perform the Ziyarat of Janab Abbas (a.s.) you must perform it in the following manner:

سَلَامُ اللهِ وَسَلَامُ مَلٓاَئِكَتِهِ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ وَاَنْبِيَآئِهِ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ

SALAAMUL LAAHE WA SALAAMO MALAAA-EKATEHIL MOQARRABEENA WA AMBEYAAA-EHIL MURSALEENA

May the greetings of Allah, His close angels and the Prophets sent by Allah be on you!

وَعِبَادِهِ الصَّالِحِيْنَ وَجَمِيْعِ الشُّهَدَاْءِ وَالصِّدِّيْقِيْنَ

WA E’BAADEHIS SAALEHEENA WA JAMEE-I’SH SHOHADAAA-E WAS-SIDDEEQEENA

May the greetings of His pious servants, all martyrs and truthful ones,

وَالزَّاكِيَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ فِيْمَا تَغْتَدِىْ وَتَرُوْحُ عَلَيْكَ

WAZ-ZAAKEYAATUT TAYYEBAATO FEEMAA TAGHTADEE WA TAROOHO A’LAYKA

who are virtuous and pure, who frequent you, be on you.

يَابْنَ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

YABNA AMEERIL MOMENEENA

O son of the Commander of the Faithful!

اَشْهَدُ لَكَ بِالتَّسْلِيْمِ وَالتَّصْدِيْقِ

ASH-HADO LAKA BIT-TASLEEME WAT-TASDEEQE

I bear witness that you submitted yourself to the will of Allah; you were faithful,

وَالْوَفَآءِ وَالنَّصِيْحَةِ لِخَلَفِ النَّبِىِّ الْمُرْسَلِ

WAL WAFAAA-E WAN-NASEEHATE LE KHALAFIN NABIYYIL MURSALE

giving sound advice to the descendant of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.)

وَالسِّبْطِ الْمُنْتَجَبِ وَالدَّلِيْلِ الْعَالِمِ

WAS-SIBTIL MUNTAJABE WAD-DALEELIL A’ALEME

and to his chosen grandson. He (Husain) is the universal guide,

وَالْوَصِىِّ الْمُبَلِّغِ وَالْمَظْلُوْمِ الْمُهْتَضَمِ

WAL WASIYYIL MOBALLEGHE WAL MAZLOOMIL MOHTAZAME

the successor who proclaimed. He was oppressed.

فَجَزَاكَ اللهُ عَنْ رَسُوْلِهٖ

FAJAZAAKAL LAAHO A’N RASOOLEHI

On behalf of His Messenger,

وَعَنْ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَعَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ

WA A’N AMEERIL MOMENEENA WA A’NIL HASANE WAL HUSAYNE

the Commander of the Faithful, Hasan and Husain (a.s.) may Allah grant you the best reward

صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِمْ اَفْضَلَ الْجَزَآءِ بِمَا صَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ وَاَعَنْتَ

SALAWAATUL LAAHE A’LAYHIM AFZALAL JAZAAA-E BEMAA SABARTA WAH-TASABTA WA A-A’NTA

due to your patience, support and help.

فَنِعْمَ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ

FANEA’-MA U’QBAD DAARE

How excellent is the reward in the eternal life.

لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ جَهِلَ حَقَّكَ وَاسْتَخَفَّ بِحُرْمَتِكَ

LA-A’NAL LAAHO MAN QATALAKA WA LA-A’NAL LAAHO MAN JAHELA HAQQAKA WAS-TAKHAFFA BE HURMATEKA

May Allah curse those who killed you, ignored your rights and gave no importance to your sanctity.

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ حَالَ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ مَآءِ الْفُرَاتِ

WA LA-A’NAL LAAHO MAN HAALA BAYNAKA WA BAYNA MAAA-IL FORAATE

May the curse of Allah be on those who stood between you and the river Furat.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ قُتِلْتَ مَظْلُوْمًا

ASH-HADO ANNAKA QOTILTA MAZLOOMAN

I bear witness that you were oppressed when killed

وَاَنَّ اللهَ مُنْجِزٌ لَّكُمْ مَا وَعَدَكُمْ

WA ANNAL LAAHA MUNJEZUN LAKUM MAA WA-A’DAKUM

and that Allah will reward you with what He has promised.

جِئْتُكَ يَابْنَ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَافِدًا اِلَيْكُمْ

JEA-TOKA YABNA AMEERIL MOMENEENA WAAFEDAN ELAYKUM

I have come to you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful, to present myself before you.

وَقَلْبِىْ مُسَلِّمٌ لَّكُمْ وَتَابِعٌ وَاَنَا لَكُمْ تَابِعٌ وَنُصْرَتِىْ لَكُمْ مُعَدَّةٌ

WA QALBEE MOSALLEMUN LAKUM WA TAABE-U’N WA ANAA LAKUM TAABE-U’N WA NUSRATEE LAKUM MO-A’DDATUN

My heart has submitted to you and follows you. I am your disciple. I am ready to serve you

حَتّٰى يَحْكُمَ اللهُ

HATTAA YAHKOMAL LAAHO

until Allah judges,

وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحَاكِمِيْنَ

WA HOWA KHAYRUL HAAKEMEENA

for He is the best judge.

فَمَعَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ لَا مَعَ عَدُوِّكُمْ

FA-MA-A’KUM MA-A’KUM LAA MA-A’ A’DUWWEKUM

I am with you, with you, not with your enemies.

اِنِّىْ بِكُمْ وَبِاِيَابِكُمْ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

INNEE BEKUM WA BE-EYAABEKUM MENAL MOMENEENA

I believe in you and in your return with other believers.

وَبِمَنْ خَالَفَكُمْ وَقَتَلَكُمْ مِنَ الْكاَفِرِيْنَ

WA BEMAN KHAALAFAKUM WA QATALAKUM MENAL KAAFEREENA

I believe in the return of those infidels who opposed and killed you.

قَتَلَ اللهُ اُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكُمْ بِالْاَيْدِىْ وَالْاَلْسُنِ.

QATALAL LAAHO UMMATAN QATALATKUM BIL-AYDEE WAL-ALSONE.

May Allah destroy those who killed you by their hands and tongues.

Then enter the shrine and clinging to the Zari say:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْعَبْدُ الصَّالِحُ الْمُطِيْعُ لِلّٰهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL A’BDUS SAALEHUL MOTEE-O’ LILLAAHE

Peace be on you, O pious, obedient servant of Allah

وَلِرَسُوْلِهٖ وَلِاَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ

WA LE-RASOOLEHI WA LE-AMEERIL MOMENEENA WAL HASANE WAL HUSAYNE A’LAYHEMUS SALAAMO

and on His messenger, and on the Commander of the Faithful, on Hasan and Husain (a.s.). May the blessings and greetings of Allah be on them.

وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

WAS SALAAMO A’LAYKA WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU

Peace be on you and may the mercy and blessings,

وَمَغْفِرَتُهٗ عَلٰى رُوْحِكَ وَبَدَنِكَ

WA MAGHFERATOHU A’LAA ROOHEKA WA BADANEKA

forgiveness and pleasure of Allah be on you and on your body and soul.

اَشْهَدُ وَاُشْهِدُ اللهَ اَنَّكَ مَضَيْتَ عَلٰى مَا مَضٰى

ASH-HADO WA USH-HEDUL LAAHA ANNAKA MAZAYTA A’LAA MAA MAZAA

I bear witness and invoke Allah to be a witness that verily you trod the path

الْبَدْرِيُّوْنَ وَالْمُجَاهِدُوْنَ فِىْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ

BADRIYYOONA WAL MOJAAHEDOONA FEE SABEELIL LAAHIL

of the warriors of Badr and those striving in the cause of Allah.

الْمُنَاصِحُوْنَ لَهٗ فِى جِهَادِ اَعْدَائِهِ

MONAASEHOONA LAHU FEEJEHAADE AA’-DAAA-EHIL

You served Him faithfully in the battlefield against His enemies.

الْمُبَالِغُوْنَ فِى نُصْرَةِ اَوْلِيَآئِهِ

MOBAALEGHOONA FEE NUSRATE AWLEYAAA-EHIZ

You were like those who exerted themselves to support His friends

الذَّآبُّوْنَ عَنْ اَحِبَّآئِهٖ فَجَزَاكَ اللهُ اَفْضَلَ الْجَزَآءِ

ZAAABBOONA A’N AHIBBAAA-EHI FAJAZAAKAL LAAHO AFZALAL JAZAAA-E

and defend His beloved favourites. May Allah grant you the best,

وَاَوْفَرَ الْجَزَآءِ اَحَدٍ مِّمَّنْ وَفٰى بِبَيْعَتِهٖ

WA AWFARAL JAZAAA-E AHADIN MIMMAN WAFAA BE-BAY-A’TEHI

vast, continuous, exemplary and conclusive reward that He gives to those who are loyal to their allegiances,

وَاسْتَجَابَ لَهٗ دَعْوَتَهٗ وَاَطَاعَ وُلَاةَ اَمْرِهٖ

WAS-TAJAABA LAHU DA’-WATAHU WA ATAA-A’ WOLAATA AMREHI

who answer His call and obey those who exercise authority on His behalf.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ قَدْ بَالَغْتَ فِى النَّصِيْحَةِ

ASH-HADO ANNAKA QAD BAALAGHTA FIN NASEEHATE

I bear witness that you exerted yourself in giving sound advice,

وَاَعْطَيْتَ غَايَةَ الْمَجْهُوْدِ

WA AA’-TAYTA GHAAYATAL MAJHOODE

and made utmost efforts to pursue its purpose.

فَبَعَثَكَ اللهُ فِى الشُّهَدَآءِ

FA-BA-A’SAKAL LAAHO FISH-SHOHADAAA-E

May Allah raise you with the martyrs

وَجَعَلَ رُوْحَكَ مَعَ اَرْوَاحِ السُّعَدَآءِ

WA JA-A’LA ROOHAKA MA-A’ ARWAAHIS SO-A’DAAA-E

and let your soul be with the prosperous ones.

وَاَعْطَاكَ مِنْ جِنَانِهٖ اَفْسَحَهَا مَنْزِلًا وَّاَفْضَلَهَا غُرَفًا

WA AA’-TAAKA MIN JENAANEHI AFSAHA-HAA MANZELAN WA AFZALAHAA GHORAFAN

He has awarded you a special place and chamber in His Paradise.

وَرَفَعَ ذِكْرَكَ فِى الْعِلِّيِّيْنَ

WA RAFA-A’ ZIKRAKA FEE I’LLIYYEENA

He has made mention of your name in the illiyin, the highest circle in heaven.

وَحَشَرَكَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

WA HA-SHARAKA MA-A’N NABIYYEENA

He gathered you with the Prophets,

وَالصِّدِّيْقِيْنَ وَالشُّهَدَآءِ وَالصَّالِحِيْنَ وَحَسُنَ اُولٰٓئِكَ رَفِيْقًا

WAS-SIDDEEQEENA WASH-SHOHADAAA-E WAS-SAALEHEENA WA HASONA OOLAAA-EKA RAFEEQAN

the truthful ones, the martyrs and the pious, they are the best companions.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ لَمْ تَهِنْ وَلَمْ تَنْكُلْ وَاَنَّكَ مَضَيْتَ عَلٰى بَصِيْرَةٍ

ASH-HADO ANNAKA LAM TAHIN WA LAM TANKUL WA ANNAKA MAZAYTA A’LAA BASEERATIM

I bear witness that you were not feeble nor did you turn away. You had insight

مِّنْ اَمْرِكَ مُقْتَدِيًاۢ بِالصَّالِحِيْنَ

MIN AMREKA MUQTADEYAN BIS-SAALEHEENA

into your matters following in the footsteps of the pious

وَمُتَّبِعًا لِّلنَّبِيِّيْنَ

WA MUTTABE-A’N LIN-NABIYYEENA

and the Prophets,

جَمَعَ اللهُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ رَسُوْلِهٖ

JAMA-A’L LAAHO BAYNANAA WA BAYNAKA WA BAYNA RASOOLEHI

so may Allah assemble us with His Prophets

وَاَوْلِيَآئِهٖ فِى مَنَازِلِ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ

WA AWLEYAAAA-EHI FEE MOHSENEENA

and His friends in the station of those who are humble,

فَاِنَّهٗ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.

FA-INNAHU ARHAMUR RAHEMEEN.

for verily He is the most merciful one.
