Ziyaarat-e-Ashoora Ghair Ma'roofah

Text and Translation

The method of this form of ziyarah, as quoted from the book of al-Mazar al-Qadeem, without mentioning the explanatory introduction, is as follows:

If you would like to visit Imam al-Husayn (a.s.) from remote places or from the vicinity of his holy tomb, you may bathe yourself and come out to a desert or go up the roof on your house. You may then offer a two-unit prayer, reciting (after [Surah al-Faatehah](A5)) [Surah al-Tawheed](A116) in both units. When you accomplish the prayer, you may point to Imam al-Husayn (a.s.) to greet him. The greetings, pointing, and intention must be made while turning the face towards the side of Imam al-Husayn (a.s.)’s tomb. Then, you may say the following words with reverence and submission:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA RASOOLIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ الْبَشِيْرِ النَّذِيْرِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNAL BASHEERIN NAZEERE

Peace be upon you, O son of the bearer of glad tidings and the warner

وَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ

WABNA SAYYEDIL WASIYYEENA

and son of the chief of the Prophets’ successors.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA FAATEMATA

Peace be upon you, O son of Fatemah

سَيِّدَةِ نِسَآءِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

SAYYEDATE NESAAA-IL A’ALAMEENA

the doyenne of the women of the worlds.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خِيَرَةَ اللهِ وَابْنَ خِيَرَتِهٖ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA KHEYARATAL LAAHE WABNA KHEYARATE

Peace be upon you, O choicest of Allah and son of His choicest.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ثَارَ اللهِ وَابْنَ ثَارِهٖ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SAARAL LAAHE WABNA SAAREHI

Peace be upon you, O vengeance of Allah and son of His vengeance.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْوِتْرُ الْمَوْتُوْرُ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL WITRUL MAWTOORO

Peace be upon you, O he who has not been avenged so far.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْاِمَامُ الْهَادِىُ الزَّكِىُّ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA AYYOHAL EMAAMUL HAADEYUZ ZAKIYYO

Peace be upon you, O guide and pure leader,

وَعَلٰى اَرْوَاحٍ حَلَّتْ بِفِنَآئِكَ

WA A’LAA ARWAAHIN HALLAT BE-FENAAA-EKA

and upon souls that gathered in your courtyard,

وَاَقَامَتْ فِىْ جِوَارِكَ

WA AQAAMAT FEE JEWAAREKA

resided in your vicinity,

وَوَفَدَتْ مَعَ زُوَّارِكَ

WA WAFADAT MA-A’ ZUWWAREKA

and came with your visitors.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنِّىْ مَا بَقِيْتُ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA MINNEE MAA BAQEETO

Peace be upon you from me as long as I am existent

وَبَقِىَ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ

WA BAQEYAL LAYLO WAN NAHAARO

and as long as there are day and night.

فَلَقَدْ عَظُمَتْ بِكَ الرَّزِيَّةُ

FA-LAQAD A’ZOMAT BEKAR RAZIYYATO

So indeed, the catastrophe because of you has become great,

وَجَلَّتْ فِى الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُسْلِمِيْنَ

WA JALLAT FIL MOMENEENA WAL MUSLEMEENA

and it has become enormous for the believers and the Muslims,

وَفِىْ اَهْلِ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَاَهْلِ الْاَرَضِيْنَ اَجْمَعِيْنَ

WA FEE AHLIS SAMAAWAATE WA AHLIL ARAZEENA AJMAE’ENA

and upon all the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth.

فَاِنَّ لِلّٰهِ وَاِنَّ اِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ

FA INNAA LILLAAHE WA INNAA ELAYHE RAAJEO’ONA

So, we are Allah’s and to Him shall we return.

صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ وَتَحِيَّاتُهٗ عَلَيْكَ

SALAWAATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU WA TAHIYYATOHU A’LAYKA

Allah’s benedictions, blessings, and greetings

يَا اَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحُسَيْنِ

YAA ABAA A’BDIL LAAHIL HUSAYNE

be upon you, O Abu Abdillah al-Husain,

وَعَلٰى اٰبَآئِكَ الطَّيِّبِيْنَ الْمُنْتَجَبِيْنَ

WA A’LAA AABAAA-EKAT TAYYEBEENAL MUNTAJABEENA

upon your fathers the immaculate and finely selected,

وَعَلٰى ذُرِّيَّاتِكُمُ الْهُدَاةِ الْمَهْدِيِّيْنَ

WA A’LAA ZURRIYYAATEKOMUL HODAATIL MAHDIYYEENA

and upon your offspring the guide and well-guided.

لَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً خَذَلَتْكَ

LA-A’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN KHAZALATKA

May Allah curse the people who disappointed you

وَتَرَكَتْ نُصْرَتَكَ وَمَعُوْنَتَكَ

WA TARAKAT NUSRATAKA WA MA-O’ONATAKA

and abstained from supporting and aiding you.

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً اَسَّسَتْ اَسَاسَ الظُّلْمِ لَكُمْ

WA LA-A’NAL LAAHO UMMATAN ASSASAT ASAASAZ ZULME LAKUM

May Allah curse the people who laid the basis of persecution against you,

وَمَهَّدَتِ الْجَوْرَ عَلَيْكُمْ

WA MAH-HADATIL JAWRA A’LAYKUM

paved the way for transgression against you,

وَطَرَّقَتْ اِلٰى اَذِيَّتِكُمْ وَتَحَيُّفِكُمْ

WA TARRAQAT ELAA AZIYYATEKUM WA TAHAYYOFEKUM

opened the way towards injuring and wronging you,

وَجَارَتْ ذٰلِكَ فِىْ دِيَارِكُمْ وَاَشْيَاعِكُمْ

WA JAARAT ZAALEKA FEE DEYAAREKUM WA ASH-YAA-E’KUM

and spread so in your lands and against your adherents.

بَرِئْتُ اِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَاِلَيْكُمْ

BA-REA-TO ELAL LAAHE A’ZZA WA JALLA WA ELAYKUM

I declare my repudiation in the presence of Allah, Majestic and Mighty be He, and in the presence of you,

يَا سَادَاتِىْ وَمَوَالِىَّ وَاَئِمَّتِىْ مِنْهُمْ

YAA SAADAATEE WA MAWALIYYA WA A-IMMATEE MINHUM

O my masters, chiefs, and leaders,

وَمِنْ اَشْيَاعِهِمْ وَاَتْبَاعِهِمْ

WA MIN ASHYAA-E’HIM WA AT-BAA-E’HIM

from them, their adherents, and their followers.

وَاَسْئَلُ اللهَ الَّذِىْ اَكْرَمَ يَا مَوَالِىَّ مَقَامَكُمْ

WA AS-ALUL LAAHAL LAZEE AKRAMA YAA MAWAALIYYA MAQAAMAKUM

And I ask Allah, Who honored, O my Masters, your station,

وَشَرَّفَ مَنْزِلَتَكُمْ وَشَاْنَكُمْ

WA SHARRAFA MANZELATAKUM WA SHAANAKUM

and elevated your rank and your status,

اَنْ يُّكْرِمَنِىْ بِوِلاَيَتِكُمْ وَمَحَبَّتِكُمْ

ANY YUKREMANEE BE-WELAAYATEKUM WA MAHABBATEKUM

to honor me with your guardianship (allegiance) and your love,

وَالْاِيْتِمَامِ بِكُمْ وَبِالْبَرَآئَةِ مِنْ اَعْدَآئِكُمْ

WAL EETEMAAME BEKUM WA BIL-BARAA-ATE MIN AA’DAAA-EKUM

and with taking you as my leaders, and with disassociation from your enemies.

وَاَسْئَلُ اللهَ الْبَرَّ الرَّحِيْمَ

WA AS-ALUL LAAHAL BARRAR RAHEEMA

And I beseech Allah, the Benign and Merciful,

اَنْ يَّرْزُقَنِىْ مَوَدَّتَكُمْ وَاَنْ يُّوَفِّقَنِىْ لِلطَّلَبِ بِثَارِكُمْ

ANY YARZOQANEE MAWADDATAKUM WA ANY YOWAFFEQANEE LITTALABE BE-SAAREKUM

to grant me your affection, and to grant me success in seeking your vengeance (revenge)

مَعَ الْاِمَامِ الْمُنْتَظَرِ الْهَادِىْ مِنْ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

MA-A’L EMAAMIL MUNTAZARIL HAADEE MIN AALE MOHAMMADIN

with the awaited, guided Imam from the Household of Muhammad,

وَّاَنْ يَّجْعَلَنِىْ مَعَكُمْ فِىْ الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِ

WA ANY YAJ-A’LANEE MA-A’KUM FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

and to include me with you in this world and the Hereafter,

وَاَنْ يُّبَلِّغَنِىْ الْمَقَامَ الْمَحْمُوْدَ لَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ

WA ANY YOBALLEGHA-NIL MAQAAMAL MAHMOODA LAKUM I’NDAL LAAHE

and to make me attain the Praiseworthy Position that you enjoy with Allah.

وَاَسْئَلُ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِحَقِّكُمْ

WA ASALUL LAAHA A’ZZA WA JALLA BE-HAQQEKUM

And I beseech Allah, Mighty and Majestic be He, in the name of your right

وَبِالشَّاْنِ الَّذِىْ جَعَلَ اللهُ لَكُمْ

WA BISH-SHAANIL LAZEE JA-A’LAL LAAHO LAKUM

and in the name of the status that you enjoy with Him,

اَنْ يُّعْطِيَنِىْ بِمُصَابِىْ بِكُمْ

ANY YO’TEYANEE BE-MOSAABEE BEKUM

to grant me, on account of my commiseration for you,

اَفْضَلَ مَا اَعْطٰى مُصَابًاۢ بِمُصِيْبَةٍ

AFZALA MAA AA’TAA MOSAABAN BE-MOSEEBATIN

the most favorable of that which He has ever granted to any one afflicted with a misfortune.

اِنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَاِنَّا اِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ

INNAA LILLAAHE WA INNAA ELAYHE RAAJEO’ONA

To Allah do we belong and to Him shall we return.

يَا لَهَا مِنْ مُّصِيْبَةٍ مَّا اَفْجَعَهَا وَاَنْكَاهَا

YAA LAHAA MIM MOSEEBATIN MAA AF-JA-A’HAA WA ANKAAHAA

What a terrible misfortune it was;

لِقُلُوْبِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُسْلِمِيْنَ

LE-QOLOOBIL MOMENEENA WAL MUSLEMEENA

how a calamitous and painful misfortune it was for the hearts of the believers and Muslims.

فَاِنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَاِنَّا اِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ

FA-INNAA LILLAAHE WA INNAA ELAYHE RAAJEO’ONA

So, to Allah do we belong and to His shall we return.

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah! Send blessings upon Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad,

وَّاجْعَلْنِىْ فِىْ مَقَامِىْ

WAJ A’LNEE FEE MAQAAMEE

and make me, in my present state,

مِمَّنْ تَنَالُهٗ مِنْكَ صَلَوَاتٌ وَّرَحْمَةٌ وَّمَغْفِرَةٌ

MIMMAN TANAALOHU MINKA SALAWAATUN WA RAHMATUN WA MAGHFERATUNW

one whom Your blessings, mercy, and forgiveness reach.

وَّاجْعَلْنِىْ عِنْدَكَ وَجِيْهًا فِى الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِ

WAJ A’LNEE I’NDAKA WAJEEHAN FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

And make me honorable in Your sight in this world and the Hereafter,

وَمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ

WA MENAL MOQARRABEENA

and one of the near ones (to You).

فَاِنِّىْ اَتَقَرَّبُ اِلَيْكَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

FA-INNEE ATAQARRABO ELAYKA BE-MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

For I seek nearness to You through Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad;

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ

SALAWAATOKA A’LAYHE WA A’LAYHIM AJMA-E’ENA

Your blessings be upon him and upon all of them.

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَاِنِّىْ اَتَوَسَّلُ وَاَتَوَجَّهُ

ALLAAHUMMA WA INNEE ATAWASSALO WA ATAWAJJAHO

O Allah! And I beseech and turn toward You through

بِصَفْوَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ وَخِيَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

BE-SAFWATEKA MIN KHALQEKA WA KHEYARATEKA MIN KHALQEKA

Your choicest of creation and the best of Your creation:

مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلِىٍّ وَالطَّيِّبِيْنَ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا

MOHAMMADIN WA A’LIYYIN WAT-TAYYEBEENA MIN ZURRIYYATEHEMAA

Muhammad and Ali, and the pure ones from their descendants.

اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحِمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA FASALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

O Allah! So send blessings upon Muḥammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَّاجْعَلْ مَحْيَايَ مَحْيَاهُمْ

WAJ A’L MAHYAAYA MAHYAAHUM

and make my life their life

وَمَمَاتِىْ مَمَاتَهُمْ

WA MAMAATEE MAMAATAHUM

and my death their death,

وَلاَ تُفَرِّقْ بَيْنِىْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ فِى الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِ

WA LAA TOFARRIQ BAYNEE WA BAYNAHUM FID DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE

and do not separate me from them in this world and the Hereafter.

اِنَّكَ سَمِيْعُ الدُّعَآءِ

INNAKA SAMEE-U’D DOAA-E

Surely You are the Hearer of prayers.

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَهٰذَا يَوْمٌ تُجَدَّدُ فِيْهِ النِّقْمَةُ

ALLAAHUMMA WA HAAZAA YAWMUN TOJADDADO FEEHIN NIQMATO

O Allah! This is a day on which retribution is renewed

وَتُنَزَّلُ فِيْهِ اللَّعْنَةُ

WA TONAZZALO FEEHIL LA’NATO

and the curse is sent down

عَلَى اللَّعِيْنِ يَزِيْدَ وَعَلٰى اٰلِ يَزِيْدَ

A’LAL LA-E’ENE YAZEEDA WA A’LAA AALE YAZEEDA

upon the accursed Yazid, and upon the family of Yazid,

وَعَلٰٓى اٰلِ زِيَادٍ وَعُمْرَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ وَالشِّمْرِ

WA A’LAA AALE ZEYAADIN WA O’MAR ABNE SA’DIN WASH-SHIMRE

and upon the family of Ziyad, and Umar ibn Sa’d, and al-Shimr.

اَللّٰهُمَّ الْعَنْهُمْ وَالْعَنْ مَنْ رَضِىَ بِقَوْلِهِمْ وَفِعْلِهِمْ

ALLAAHUMMAL A’NHUM WAL A’N MAN RAZEYA BE-QAWLEHIM WA FE’LEHIM

O Allah! Curse them and curse all who approved of their words and deeds,

مِنْ اَوَّلٍ وَاٰخِرٍ لَعْنًا كَثِيْرًا

MIN AWWALIN WA AAKHERIN LA’NAN KASEERAN

from the first to the last, with an abundant curse,

وَاَصْلِهِمْ حَرَّ نَارِكَ

WA ASLEHIM HARRA NAAREKA

and cast them into the heat of Your Fire,

وَاَسْكِنْهُمْ جَهَنَّمَ وَسَآئَتْ مَصِيْرًا

WA ASKINHUM JAHANNAMA WA SAA-AT MASEERAN

and settle them in Hell—what an evil destination!

وَّاَوْجِبْ عَلَيْهِمْ

WA AWJIB A’LAYHIM

And decree upon them,

وَعَلٰى كُلِّ مَنْ شَايَعَهُمْ وَبَايَعَهُمْ وَتَابَعَهُمْ

WA A’LAA KULLE MAN SHAA-YA-A’HUM WA BAA-YA-A’HUM WA TAA-BA-A’HUM

and upon all who supported them, pledged allegiance to them, followed them,

وَسَاعَدَهُمْ وَرَضِىَ بِفِعْلِهِمْ

WA SAA-A’DAHUM WA RAZEYA BE-FE’LEHIM

assisted them, and approved of their deed,

وَافْتَحْ لَهُمْ وَعَلَيْهِمْ وَعَلٰى كُلِّ مَنْ رَضِىَ بِذٰلِكَ

WAF TAH LAHUM WA A’LAYHIM WA A’LAA KULLE MAN RAZEYA BE-ZAALEKA

and unleash upon them, and upon all who approved of that,

لَعَنَاتِكَ الَّتِىْ لَعَنْتَ بِهَا كُلَّ ظَالِمٍ

LA-A’NAATEKAL LATEE LA-A’NTA BEHAA KULLA ZAALEMIN

Your curses with which You cursed every oppressor,

وَّكُلَّ غَاصِبٍ وَّكُلَّ جَاحِدٍ

WA KULLA GHAA-SEBIN WA KULLA JAAHEDIN

every usurper, every denier,

وَّكُلَّ كَافِرٍ وَّكُلَّ مُشْرِكٍ

WA KULLA KAAFERIN WA KULLA MUSHREKIN

every disbeliever, every polytheist,

وَّكُلَّ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيْمٍ وَّكُلَّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيْدٍ

WA KULLA SHAYTAANIR RAJEEMINW WA KULLA JABBARIN A’NEEDIN

every outcast devil, and every obstinate tyrant.

اَللّٰهُمَّ الْعَنْ يَزِيْدَ وَاٰلَ يَزِيْدَ

ALLAAHUMMAL A’N YAZEEDA WA AALA YAZEEDA

O Allah! Curse Yazid, the family of Yazid,

وَبَنِىْ مَرْوَانَ جَمِيْعًا

WA BANEE MARWAANA JAMEE-A’N

and all of Bani Marwan.

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَضَعِّفْ غَضَبَكَ وَسَخَطَكَ

ALLAAHUMMA WA ZA’-I’F GHAZABAKA WA SAKHATAKA

O Allah! Multiply Your anger, Your displeasure,

وَعَذَابَكَ وَنَقِمَتَكَ

WA A’ZAABAKA WA NAQEMATAKA

Your punishment, and Your retribution

عَلٰٓى اَوَّلِ ظَالِمٍ ظَلَمَ اَهْلَ بَيْتِ نَبِيِّكَ

A’LAA AWWALE ZAALEMIN ZALAMA AHLA BAYTE NABIYYEKA

upon the first oppressor who oppressed the Household of Your Prophet.

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَالْعَنْ جَمِيْعَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ لَهُمْ

ALLAAHUMMA WAL A’N JAMEE-A’Z ZAALEMEENA LAHUM

O Allah! And curse all the oppressors against them

وَانْتَقِمْ مِنْهُمْ

WAN TAQIM MINHUM

and take vengeance on them.

اِنَّكَ ذُوْ نِقْمَةٍ مِّنَ الْمُجْرِمِيْنَ

INNAKA ZOO NIQMATIM MENAL MUJREMEENA

Indeed, You are the Lord of Vengeance against the criminals.

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَالْعَنْ اَوَّلَ ظَالِمٍ ظَلَمَ اٰلَ بَيْتِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA WAL A’N AWWALA ZAALEMIN ZALAMA AALA BAYTE MOHAMMADINW

O Allah! And curse the first oppressor who oppressed the Household of Muḥammad,

وَّالْعَنْ اَرْوَاحَهُمْ وَدِيَارَهُمْ وَقُبُوْرَهُمْ

WAL A’N ARWAAHAHUM WA DEYAARAHUM WA QOBOORAHUM

and curse their souls, their homes, and their graves.

وَالْعَنِ اللّٰهُمَّ الْعِصَابَةَ الَّتِىْ نَازَلَةِ الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ بِنْتِ نَبِيِّكَ

WAL A’NIL LAAHUMMAL E’SAABATAL LATEE NAAZALATIL HUSAYNABNA BINTE NABIYYEKA

And curse, O Allah! The gang that confronted al-Husayn, the son of Your Prophet's daughter,

وَحَارَبَتْهُ وَقَتَلَتْ اَصْحَابَهٗ وَاَنْصَارَهٗ

WA HAARABATHO WA QATALAT ASHAABAHU WA ANSAARAHU

and fought him, and killed his companions, his helpers,

وَاَعْوَانَهٗ وَاَوْلِيَآئَهٗ وَشِيْعَتَهٗ وَمُحِبِّيْهِ

WA AA’WAANAHU WA AWLEYAAA-AHU WA SHEE-A’TAHU WA MOHIBBEEHE

his assistants, his friends, his followers, his lovers,

وَاَهْلَ بَيْتِهٖ وَذُرِيَّتَهٗ

WA AHLA BAYTEHI WA ZURRIYYATAHU

his household, and his descendants.

وَالْعَنِ اللّٰهُمَّ الَّذِيْنَ نَهَبُوْا مَا لَهٗ

WAL A’NALIL LAAHUMMAL LAZEENA NAHABOO MAALAHU

O Allah! Curse those who plundered his property,

وَسَلَبُوْا حَرِيْمَهٗ وَلَمْ يَسْمَعُوْا كَلَامَهٗ وَلَا مَقَالَهٗ

WA SALABOO HAREEMAHU WA LAM YAS-MA-O’O KALAAMAHU WA LAA MAQAALAHU

robbed his sacred household (family), and neither listened to his words nor his speech.

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَالْعَنْ كُلَّ مَنْۢ بَلَغَهٗ ذٰلِكَ

ALLAAHUMMA WAL-A’N KULLA MAN BALAGHA-HU ZAALEKA

O Allah! And curse all those, to whom this (tragedy) reached

فَرَضِىَ بِهٖ مِنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِيْنَ

FA-RAZEYA BEHI MENAL AWWALEENA WAL AAKHEREENA

and who approved of it, from the first and the last,

وَالْخَلَآئِقِ اَجْمَعِيْنَ اِلٰى يَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ

WAL KHALAA-EQE AJMA-E’ENA ELAA YAWMID DEENE

and all of creation, until the Day of Judgment,

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحُسَيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA ABAA A’BDIL LAAHIL HUSAYNA

Peace be upon you, O Aba Abdillah al-Husayn,

وَعَلٰى مَنْ سَاعَدَكَ وَعَاوَنَكَ

WA A’LAA MAN SAA-A’DAKA WA A’AWANAKA

and upon those who assisted you, helped you,

وَوَاسَاكَ بِنَفْسِهٖ وَبَذَلَ مُهْجَتَهٗ فِىْ الذَّبِّ عَنْكَ

WA WAASAAKA BE-NAFSEHI WA BAZALA MOHJATAHU FIZ ZABBE A’NKA

shared their lives with you, and sacrificed their souls in defending you.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ وَعَلَيْهِمْ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA MAWLAAYA WA A’LAYHIM

Peace be upon you, O my Master, and upon them,

وَعَلٰى رُوْحِكَ وَعَلٰى اَرْوَاحِهِمْ

WA A’LAA ROOHEKA WA A’LAA ARWAAHEHIM

and upon your soul and upon their souls,

وَعَلٰى تُرْبَتِكَ وَعَلٰى تُرْبَتِهِمْ

WA A’LAA TURBATEKA WA A’LAA TURBATEHIM

and upon your soil (grave) and upon their soil.

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَقِّهِمْ رَحْمَةً وَّرِضْوَانًا

ALLAAHUMMA LAQQEHIM RAHMATAWN WA RIZWAANAN

O Allah! Bestow upon them mercy, pleasure,

وَّرَوْحًا وَّرَيْحَانًا

WA RAWHAWN WA RAYHAANAN

happiness and bounty.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ يَا اَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA MAWLAAYA YAA ABAA A’BDIL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O my Master, O Aba Abdillah,

يَابْنَ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

YABNA KHAATAMIN NABIYYEENA

O son of the Seal of the Prophets,

وَيَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ

WA YABNA SAYYEDIL WASIYYEENA

O son of the Master of the Successors,

وَيَابْنَ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَآءِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

WA YABNA SAYYEDATE NESAAA-IL A’ALAMEENA

and O son of the Mistress of the women of the worlds.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا شَهِيْدُ يَابْنَ الشَّهِيْدِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA SHA-HEEDO YABNASH SHAHEEDE

Peace be upon you, O Martyr, O son of the Martyr.

اَللّٰهُمَّ بَلِّغْهُ عَنِّىْ فِىْ هٰذِهٖ السَّاعَةِ

ALLAAHUMMA BALLIGH-HO A’NNEE FEE HAAZEHIS SAA-A’TE

O Allah! Convey to him from me, at this hour,

وَفِىْ هٰذَا الْيَوْمِ وَفِىْ هٰذَا الْوَقْتِ

WA FEE HAAZAL YAWME WA FEE HAAZAL WAQTE

on this day, at this time,

وَكُلِّ وَقْتٍ تَحِيَّةً وَّسَلَامًا

WA KULLE WAQTIN TAHIYYATAN WA SALAAMAN

and at every time, a greeting and peace.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YABNA SAYYEDIL A’ALAMEENA

Peace be upon you, O son of the Master of the Worlds,

وَعَلٰى الْمُسْتَشْهَدِيْنَ مَعَكَ

WA A’LAL MUS-TASH-HADEENA MA-A’KA

and upon those martyred with you—

سَلاَمًا مُّتَّصِلًا مَّا اتَّصَلَ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ

SALAAMAN MUTTASELAN MATTASALAL LAYLO WAN NAHAARO

a continuous peace for as long as the night and day are connected.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِىٍّ ۨ الشَّهِيْدِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAL HUSAYN IBNE A’LIYYENISH SHA-HEEDE

Peace be upon al-Husayn ibn Ali, the Martyr.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى عَلِىِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ الشَّهِيْدِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAA A’LIYYIBNIL HUSAYNISH SHAHEEDE

Peace be upon Ali ibn al-Husayn, the Martyr.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ الشَّهِيْدِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAL A’BBAAS IBNE AMEERIL MOMENEENASH SHAHEEDE

Peace be upon al-Abbas ibn Ameer al-Mu’meneen, the Martyr.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الشُّهَدَآءِ مِنْ وُّلْدِ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LASH SHO-HADAAA-E MIN WULDE AMEERIL MOMENEENA

Peace be upon the martyrs from the children of Ameer al-Mu’meneen.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الشُّهَدَآءِ مِنْ وُّلْدِ جَعْفَرٍ وَّعَقِيْلٍ

ASSALAAMO A’LASH SHOHADAAA-E MIN WULDE JA’FARIN WA A’QEELIN

Peace be upon the martyrs from the children of Ja’far and Aqīl.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى كُلِّ مُسْتَشْهَدٍ مِّنَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAA KULLE MUSTASH-HADIM MENAL MOMENEENA

Peace be upon every martyr among the believers.

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADINW

O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَّبَلِّغْهُمْ عَنِّىْ تَحِيَّةً وَّسَلَامًا

WA BALLIGH-HUM A’NNEE TAHIYYATAN WA SALAAMAN

and convey to them from me greeting and peace.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA RASOOLAL LAAHE

Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah,

وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

WA A’LAYKAS SALAAMO WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU

and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His bounties.

اَحْسَنَ اللهُ لَكَ الْعَزَآءَ فِىْ وَلَدِكَ الْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

AHSANAL LAAHO LAKAL A’ZAAA-A FEE WALADEKAL HUSAYNE A’LAYHIS SALAAMO

May Allah grant you excellent consolation for your son al-Husayn, peace be upon him.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَبَا الْحَسَنِ يَا اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA ABAL HASANE YAA AMEERAL MOMENEENA

Peace be upon you, O Aba al-Hasan, O Ameer al-Mu’meneen,

وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

WA A’LAYKAS SALAAMO WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU

and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His bounties.

اَحْسَنَ اللهُ لَكَ الْعَزَآءَ فِىْ وَلَدِكَ الْحُسَيْنِ

AHSANAL LAAHO LAKAL A’ZAAA-A FEE WALADEKAL HUSAYNE

May Allah grant you excellent consolation for your son al-Husayn.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا فَاطِمَةُ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA FAATEMATO

Peace be upon you, O Fatemah,

يَا بِنْتَ رَسُوْلِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

YAA BINTA RASOOLE RABBIL A’ALAMEENA

O daughter of the Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds,

وَعَلَيْكِ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

WA A’LAYKIS SALAAMO WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU

and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His bounties.

اَحْسَنَ اللهُ لَكِ الْعَزَآءَ فِى وَلَدِكِ الْحُسَيْنِ

AHSANAL LAAHO LAKIL A’ZAAA-A FEE WALADEKIL HUSAYNE

May Allah grant you excellent consolation for your son al-Husayn.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَبَا مُحَمَّدٍۨالْحَسَنَ

ASSALAAMO A’LAYKA YAA ABAA MOHAMMADENIL HASANA

Peace be upon you, O Aba Muhammad al-Hasan,

وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

WA A’LAYKAS SALAAMO WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU

and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His bounties.

اَحْسَنَ اللهُ لَكَ الْعَزَآءَ فِىْ اَخِيْكَ الْحُسَيْنِ

AHSANAL LAAHO LAKAL A’ZAAA-A FEE AKHEEKAL HUSAYNE

May Allah grant you excellent consolation for your brother al-Husayn.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اَرْوَاحِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

ASSALAAMO A’LAA ARWAAHIL MOMENEENA WAL MOMENAATIL

Peace be upon the souls of the believing men and women,

الْاَحْيَآءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالْاَمْوَاتِ

AH-YAA-E MINHUM WAL AMWAATE

those living among them and those deceased,

وَعَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

WA A’LAYHEMUS SALAAMO WA RAHMATUL LAAHE WA BARAKAATOHU

and upon them be peace and the mercy of Allah and His bounties.

اَحْسَنَ اللهُ لَهُمُ الْعَزَآءَ فِىْ مَوْلَاهُمُ الْحُسَيْنِ

AHSANAL LAAHO LAHOMUL A’ZAAA-A FEE MAWLAAHOMUL HUSAYNE

May Allah grant them excellent consolation for their Master al-Husayn.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِنَ الطَّالِبِيْنَ بِثَارِهٖ

ALLAAHUMMAJ-A’LNAA MENAT TAALEBEENA BE-SAAREHI

O Allah! Make us among those who seek his vengeance

مَعَ اِمَامٍ عَدْلٍ تُعِزُّ بِهِ الْاِسْلَامَ وَاَهْلَهٗ

MA-A’ EMAMIN A’DLIN TO-I’ZZO BEHIL ISLAAMA WA AHLAHU

with a just Imam through whom You shall strengthen Islam and its followers,

يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.

YAA RABBAL A’ALAMEENA.

O Lord of the Worlds.

You may then prostrate yourself and say the following words:

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلٰى جَمِيْعِ مَا نَابَ مِنْ خَطْبٍ

ALLAAHUMMA LAKAL HAMDO A’LAA JAMEE-E’ MAA NAABA MIN KHATBIN

O Allah! All praise is due to You for every serious event that occurred,

وَّلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلٰى كُلِّ اَمْرٍ

WA LAKAL HAMDO A’LAA KULLE AMRIN

and all praise is due to You for every matter.

وَاِلَيْكَ الْمُشْتَكٰى فِىْ عَظِيْمِ الْمُهِمَّاتِ

WA ELAYKAL MUSH-TAKAA FEE A’ZEEMIL MOHIMMAATE

And to You is the complaint regarding the greatest of hardships,

بِخِيَرَتِكَ وَاَوْلِيَآئِكَ

BE-KHEYARATEKA WA AWLEYAAA-EKA

concerning Your chosen ones and Your saints,

وَذٰلِكَ لِمَا اَوْجَبْتَ لَهُمْ مِنَ الْكَرَامَةِ وَالْفَضْلِ الْكَثِيْرِ

WA ZAALEKA LEMAA AWJABTA LAHUM MENAL KARAAMATE WAL FAZLIL KASEERE

and that is because of the honor and abundant favor You made obligatory for them.

اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLAAHUMMA FA-SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADINW

O Allah! So send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَّارْزُقْنِىْ شَفَاعَةَ الْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

WAR ZUQNEE SHA-FAA-A’TAL HUSAYNE A’LAYHIS SALAAMO

and grant me the intercession of al-Husayn, peace be upon him,

يَوْمَ الْوُرُوْدِ وَالْمَقَامِ الْمَشْهُوْدِ

YAWMAL WO-ROODE WAL MAQAAMIL MASH-HOODE

on the Day of Arrival (to You), at the Witnessed Station,

وَالْحَوْضِ الْمَوْرُوْدِ

WAL HAWZIL MAWROODE

and by the Watered Fountain.

وَاجْعَلْ لِىْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَكَ مَعَ الْحُسَيْنِ

WAJ-A’L LEE QADAMA SIDQIN I’NDAKA MA-A’L HUSAYNE

And grant me a true standing with You, along with al-Husayn

وَاَصْحَابِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

WA ASHAABIL HUSAYNE A’LAYHIS SALAAMUL

and the companions of al-Husayn, peace be upon him,

الَّذِيْنَ وَاسَوْهُ بِاَنْفُسِهِمْ

LAZEENA WAA-SAWHO BE-ANFOSEHIM

Who were supportive of him with their souls,

وَبَذَلُوْا دُوْنَهٗ مُهَجَهُمْ

WA BAZALOO DOONAHU MOHAJAHUM

and sacrificed their lives for him,

وَجَاهَدُوْا مَعَهٗٓ اَعْدَآئَكَ ابْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِكَ وَرَجَآئَكَ

WA JAAHADOO MA-A’HU AA’DAAA-AKAB TEGHAAA-A MARZAATEKA WA RAJAAA-AKA

and struggled against Your enemies with him, seeking Your pleasure and hoping for Your favor,

وَتَصْدِيْقًاۢ بِوَعْدِكَ

WA TASDEEQAN BE-WA’DEKA

confirming Your promise,

وَخَوْفًا مِّنْ وَّعِيْدِكَ

WA KHAWFAM MIN WA-E’EDEKA

and fearing Your threat.

اِنَّكَ لَطِيْفٌ لِّمَا تَشَآءُ

INNAKA LATEEFUL LEMAA TASHAAA-O

Indeed, You are Kind to whosoever You will,

يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.

YAA ARHAMAR RAAHEMEENA.

O Most Merciful of the merciful.
