The Whispered Prayer ( Munajaat ) of Ameerul Momeneen (a)

Text and Translation

Munajat of Imam Ali (a.s.)

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْٓ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَّ لَا بَنُوْنَ

O Allah, I ask You for protection on the day when property will not avail, nor sons

اِلَّا مَنْ اَتَى اللهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيْمٍ

except he who comes with a heart free (from evil) (Surah 26 : Verse 88)

وَ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يَعَضُّ الظَّالِمُ عَلٰى يَدَيْهِ

And I ask You for protection on the day when the unjust one will bite his hands

يَقُوْلُ يَا لَيْتَنِىْ اتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ الرَّسُوْلِ سَبِيْلًا

saying: O would that I had taken a way with the messenger (Surah 25 : Verse27)

وَ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يُعْرَفُ الْمُجْرِمُوْنَ بِسِيْمَاهُمْ

And I ask You for protection on the day when the guilty shall be recognised by their marks

فَيُؤْخَذُ بِالنَّوَاصِىْ وَ الْاَقْدَامِ

so they shall be seized by the forelocks and the feet (Surah 55 : Verse 41)

وَ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ لَا يَجْزِىْ وَالِدٌ عَنْ وَّلَدِهٖ

And I ask You for protection on the day when a father shall not give any satisfaction for his son

وَ لَا مَوْلُوْدٌ هُوَ جَازٍ عَنْ وَالِدِهٖ شَيْئًا اِنَّ وَعْدَ اللهِ حَقٌّ

nor shall the child give any satisfaction for his father, Surely the promise of Allah is true (Surah 31 : Verse 33)

وَّ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ الظَّالِمِيْنَ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ

And I ask You for protection on the day when the unjust shall not benefit from their excuse

وَ لَهُمُ اللَّعْنَةُ وَ لَهُمْ سُوْٓءُ الدَّارِ

and for them is curse and for them is the evil abode (Surah 40 : Verse 52)

وَ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِّنَفْسٍ شَيْئًا

And I ask You for protection on the day when no soul shall control anything for (another) soul

وَّ الْاَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلّٰهِ

and the command on that day shall be entirely Allah's (Surah 82 : Verse 19)

وَ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ اَخِيْهِ وَ اُمِّهٖ وَ اَبِيْهِ

And I ask You for protection on the day when a man shall flee from his brother, and his mother, his father,

وَ صَاحِبَتِهٖ وَ بَنِيْهِ لِكُلِّ امْرِءٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَاْنٌ يُّغْنِيْهِ

his spouse, and his children, each one of them on that day will have a concern which will occupy him (Surah 80 : Verse 34)

وَ اَسْئَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِىْ مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ بِبَنِيْهِ

And I ask You for protection on the day when the guilty will wish to redeem himself from the chastisement of that day

وَ صَاحِبَتِهٖ وَ اَخِيْهِ وَ فَصِيْلَتِهِ الَّتِىْ تُؤْوِيْهِ

by (sacrificing) his children, and the near of kin who gave him shelter and all those

وَ مَنْ فِى الْاَرْضِ جَمِيْعًا ثُمَّ يُنْجِيْهِ

that are in the earth (wising) that this might deliver him

كَلَّا اِنَّهَا لَظٰى نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوٰى

by no means! Surely it is a flaming fire, dragging by the head ( Surah 70: Verses 11-16)

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْمَوْلٰى وَ اَنَا الْعَبْدُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Master and I am the Slave,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْعَبْدَ اِلَّا الْمَوْلٰى

and who else can be merciful to the slave except the Master?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْمَالِكُ وَ اَنَا الْمَمْلُوْكُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Owner and I am the one owned by You,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَمْلُوْكَ اِلَّا الْمَالِكُ

and who else can be merciful to the owned except the owner?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْعَزِيْزُ وَ اَنَا الذَّلِيْلُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Mighty and I am the low,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الذَّلِيْلَ اِلَّا الْعَزِيْزُ

and who else can be merciful to the low except the Mighty?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْخَالِقُ وَ اَنَا الْمَخْلُوْقُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Creator and I am the creature,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَخْلُوْقَ اِلَّا الْخَالِقُ

and who else can be merciful to the creature except the Creator?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْعَظِيْمُ وَ اَنَا الْحَقِيْرُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Glorious and I am the miserable,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْحَقِيْرَ اِلَّا الْعَظِيْمُ

and who else can be merciful to the miserable except the Glorious?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْقَوِىُّ وَ اَنَا الضَّعِيْفُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Powerful and I am the weak,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الضَّعِيْفَ اِلَّا الْقَوِىُّ

and who else can be merciful to the weak except the Powerful?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْغَنِىُّ وَ اَنَا الْفَقِيْرُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Wealthy and I am the Poor,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْفَقِيْرَ اِلَّا الْغَنِىُّ

and who else can be merciful to the poor except the Wealthy?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْمُعْطِىْ وَ اَنَا السَّآئِلُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Bestower and I am the beggar,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ السَّائِلَ اِلَّا الْمُعْطِىْ

and who else can be merciful to the beggar except the Bestower?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْحَىُّ وَ اَنَا الْمَيِّتُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Living and I am the dead,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَيِّتَ اِلَّا الْحَىُّ

and who else can be merciful to the dead except the Living?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الْبَاقِىْ وَ اَنَا الْفَانِىْ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Eternal and I am the transient,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْفَانِىَ اِلَّا الْبَاقِىْ

and who else can be merciful to the transient except the Eternal?

مَوْلَاىَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ اَنْتَ الدَّآئِمُ وَ اَنَا الزَّآئِلُ

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Permanent and I am the short-lived,

وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الزَّآئِلَ اِلَّا الدَّآئِمُ
